You're pushin' too hard, uh-pushin' on me
You're pushin' too hard, uh-what you want me to be
You're pushin' too hard about the things you say
You're pushin' too hard every night and day
You're pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard on me (too hard)

Well all I want is to just be free
Live my life the way I wanna be
All I want is to just have fun
Live my life like it's just begun
But you're pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard on me (too hard)

Well, better listen girl to what I'm tellin' you
You better listen girl, or we are through
You better stop all your foolin' around
Stop your runnin' all over town
'Cause you're pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard on me (too hard)

Well I know there's a lotta fish in the sea
I know some would-uh stay by me
So if you don't think I'm gonna try
You better ask yourself the reason why
'Cause you're pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard on me (too hard)

Pushin' too hard, pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard, pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard, pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard on me (too hard)

I was 11yrs old when this came out & I bought the 45. WMCA 570AM NYC (The Good Guys), played this tune a lot.

Then stop pushing the volume up
At college in '67, one of my flatmates used to play The Seeds very loudly from behind his locked bedroom door. When we complained, he used to shout, "You have to listen to crap stuff as well, 'cos it makes you appreciate the good stuff even more!"

The Music Machine—"Talk Talk". Little known fact—Keith Olsen, the record producer, was their bass player.
{#Bananajam} Good fun.
In the playlist since 2004. Keep on keepin' on.
Every time I hear this I think of: "This is the Central Scrutinizer"

Today they are back to back in the regular playlist. What a treat!

Now that is a cool piece of trivia I didn't know!
I remember when they appeared on a episode of "The Mothers-In Law" and played this song back in the 60's.

At first glance I thought it said "garbage rock."  Happens more as I get older.
I remember this on the radio back then. My parents got a shock and a laugh when I mimicked the refrain when they were nagging me.

My reaction upon hearing this is it sounds like Mothers of Invention from their first album, which was probably about the same time in pre-history. I see that others hear the connection, but for me it dates to his earliest recordings.

I believe "Freak Out" (Zappa's first recording) and this tune were both released in 1966.
"The Best of the Seeds". Seriously? That's like saying "The Best of  Right Said Fred"....ha ha.
pure gold
You never know until you try.
And the joke is on me.

Was this a Zappa song?
It's been decades since I've heard this. It used to get a lot of play and then just disappeared for some reason.
reminds me of the Monkees (sung by that Buscemi Satan on the lower right)

What you said. 13th Floor Elevators came up on my last.fm playlist for whatever reason and left me thinking "Where the hell were these guys?!?" Way ahead of their time. The Seeds run right in this pack.

Love the 13th Floor Elevators. Little Steven turned me onto them recently, although that song was used in a TV commercial a few years back, right?. Shame they were forgotten: maybe they were too garage-y or Roky's struggles were a turn-off for oldies stations. Their cover of Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" is quite good.

"Pushin' Too Hard" got played all the time on late-night radio when I was growing up.  Did the Seeds do anything else of note?
More garage rock, please!
Loved this tune back in the day, and still do.  I think the leader of the band "went off the deep end."  Perhaps too much of the lysergic compound.

But they DID sprout!!! Way back in the mid '60's.  Thanks for this bit of rock history, Bill.  I've only heard the Seeds played on one other station!

The Thirteenth Floor Elevators' "You're Gonna Miss Me" is a wonderful song.

I never realized this old punk classic was a cover (Rodney on the Roq Vol 1. ) Learn sometin new on RP every day.

This song is pushing too hard on muh nerves... {#Arghhh}
any really abrasive garage band gets at least a 7 from me but ... to play this track in honour of the passing of sky saxon, the same day another (far wackier) star passed away ... well, that's style!

Chapeau, Bill!

It was actually bands like the Seeds or the Zachary Thaks, 13th Floor Elevators, Blue Magoos and of course the Kingsmen who are the real champions of rock'n'roll spirit. The headlines always go to the mid-to-late 70's punksters in GB and NY for busting up the megarock corporate logjam, but the guys who busted their humps recording little 7 inch singles that absolutely roared with energy were these many unsung rockin' heros from the sixties.

Thanks for playing this, Bill. When consider the date of this release, one quickly realizes its historical importance in the realm of psychedelic rock. This came out at the dawning thereof and was quite a departure on AM radio from the likes of Pat Boone, et al.

Excellent, Bill!  RIP, Sky.  You paved the way for others.
Is that the "Fender Sound"?
I hope these rotten seeds do not sprout. Aweful stuff.

i saw that too! kate ballard was in that show also. i remember a horrible lip snyc and an equally horrible sit-com. i once heard an interview with mr. saxon wayyyyyyyyy back in the early days of kroq-fm, l.a. like around '73. they floated him in the booth on a string . he said he was farming in hawaii. one could only guess what he was growing. (pimp)

I may have to go down to the River Charles.
Old old old and tired. Did I mention OLD?
I wasnt around in the sixties, and although I appreciate a lot of music before my time, this sound is not something I'm disappointed to have missed... 3

If we're going back to the 60s, I vote for the Electric Prunes. Would love to hear "Too Much to Dream" (please!)

Touch me
Sorta hard to imagine rock music survived (indeed, preservered) after songs like this were released. No wonder our parents thought we were nuts. :-k

Wrong album listed...
reminds me of fresman year in high school; the most fun i ever had in school.
One of my fave psychedelic garage bands. I'd always get this group conufused with "The Leaves" and their song, "Hey Joe".

Anyone else think Frank Zappa while listening to this? First time I ever heard them. It does sound dated but still enjoyable.
Because of the parody of it in Joe's Garage? If so, yes.
Jazus, Mary and Joseph, I'm 12 years old again! The first guitar solo I ever mastered - very cool stuff!!!!
So just yesterday, I was thinkin' "Scott, why don't you upload some 13th Floor Elevators or solo Roky?" and then I thought "Nah--it'd never get added." This just goes to show. RP Rocks!
WOOOHOOOO!! one of the Garage Bands songs made it!! good upload choice Buzz!!
Zappa spoofed this music, but this was the real thing! No talent, monotenous grind that got re-hashed by the group half a dozen times in an effort to repeat their first hit. Happens that I saw these guys a few nights ago in London. Sky Saxon hung out with us near the stage while Love was playing. He's so burned out it was better than a trip to the British Museum! Gotta say...I LIKE this song, truly the Garage Band anthem.
wow, that sure took me out of my present!

I've been wondering when you were going to play this one Bill. These guys sound a little dated but they had great hair.
This rocks so hard. I think we need to hear some Flamin' Groovies following this track.
