A beautiful song.  I wasn't sure if this was a Bonnie Raitt original or a cover so just checked.  it was written by a fellow named Joel Zoss.  Personally I've not heard of him but it looks like he released an album around this time (1975).  Nice find by Bonnie Raitt.

I, too, have loved Bonnie's music for decades, but, I've never heard her do this song before. Where was I? She sounds so young here!
Sure hope Bill will play more early music from Bonnie.

Always loved this tune of Bonnie's - played it often in my days of college radio (the mighty KUCR, 10 watts of wonder smothering the UC Riverside campus in the 1970's).

I used to listen to this album all the time in College in the 70s/80s.  I have forgotten all about it.  I still have the LP.  Need to get this digitized ASAP!  The whole album is incredible!

Thanks for adding this song... brings back great memories of listening to her early music in college. This whole album shows her raw and great talent, before she became sober and turned into a huge commercial success. (Glad she became sober, though!)

!That is Bonnie in 1974 with what was known as The Woodstock Band...featuring Freebo on Bass and an unknown Will MacFarlane on guitar...Everyone sings the harmonies...I saw them on this tour at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, and Bonnie had just been "Done Wrong" by a man and sang all the sad songs...They cleared the tables at last call and she kept singing and crying till 4 AM...There is a version here on you tube of her singing it with John Prine....."    throwbackny69

"Brilliant version of a John Prine classic...even if she does mix up the words 'thunder' and 'lightning'. For some reason her version always reversed it from the original. "

You are so right about the self titled first album. The production value isn't that great, because as you said, it was literally recorded in a BARN. However, her band is phenomenal, including TUBA used for bass lines! But her young and beautiful voice just gives me shivers! (She still gives me chills!)

Actually Bonnie didn't write this song (Joel Zoss did), but yes her early work is pretty amazing. You should check out her very first self-titled album which was released in 1971.
