Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, The Beatles crafts songs...and I am a old school Rush fan....too much Counting Crows on here...they are not all that, whiney lyrics that aren't all that crafted IMHO. And there are all sorts of "bands" with followings that are not talented.
Rush fans should not be complaining about whinny voices! Geddy's got one of the whinniest I've ever heard. Personally, I'm big fans of both Rush and CC. They both craft excelent music in their own way.
nice track from Flying Demos, which I only have in really bad quality mp3, but have always liked, some of the cuts on it, even of songs that were later recorded for August and Everything After are good...I'd love to hear more on RP if Bill has a copy... Though what I don't get is why bands don't release stuff like this, even if just for download off their website for fans, cuz I'd much rather buy something like Flying Demos than their greatest hits when I already own every album...
I like this, especially the guitar at the beginning of the track. As a previous poster noted, I'd like to go back to a time when I liked the Crows more- I don't know if this has to do with them "evolving", my appreciation of their music being tied to a particular time in my life, or their sound not aging well w/me.
mmm keep on playing CC, one of the most lyrically honest bands of the 90s still rocking today. Thanks Bill!
no thanks.

Great... your opinion... I repeat you don't have to like them... I personally can't stand Bob Dylan... that's right... can't stand him... but I respect him and his enormous place in music. I assert the same for CC, dislike them all you want... but knocking their talent? Come on... I'm with you on Hootie however... YUCK... And now he's doing Burger King comercials..

Ummm. Rush... let's hear your music... The Crows continues to be an authentic band with a passionate following. I love them and they are serious song crafters. Hate them all you want, but don't trash their ability and talent. And RP keep playing their rarities. AND BTW: this coming from a huge rush fan... Rush lost it way back in the late 80's when they decided to start rapping on Roll the Bones.

"put on your bad self"?
*sigh* Reminds me of when I absolutely loved the Crows. I know they want to grow and change, but I sure miss their older sound and style. Their later albums have been OK, but only rare moments come close to those first two! Adam Duritz shaving his chest was a sign of the apocalypse.
"Flying Demos" is a collection of Counting Crows demos from 1991 and from what I can gather, it is what was sent around to the studios prior to the recording of August and Everything After. I found out about it as I was desperately combing the internet for tracks I had come across from the CC's but could not find on any album. There are some raw studio tracks that went on to be included on August and 7 unreleased tracks including "Margery Dreams of Horses (and so do I)". I am not sure whether it was endorsed by them but it is definitely authentic. There are some great songs here but based on the way Counting Crows albums tend to flow and carry themselves from song to song, these tracks obviously do not belong on any of their currently released albums. Will we see any of them on future albums? I speculate not. Adam and the gang are always trying to grow and branch out in new directions. It would seem a waste to take up space on a new album with old material when there are so many rare and wonderful lyrics yet to be born from the psyche of Adam Duritz and so much, as of yet, unheard beautiful music from the band that calls itself The Counting Crows. I found this album at https://www.kts.it.
Interesting, raw Crows tune. Does anyone know when it was recorded, and where can I find it?
Can someone tell me what Flying Demos is? A new album? I am pretty up on Crows stuff and I don't know anything about this...
