Lyrics:

I wrote a letter on a nothing day
I asked someone "Hey, could you send my letter away?"
"You are too young to put all of your hopes in just one envelope"

I said goodbye to someone that I love
It's not just me, I tell you it's the both of us
And it was hard, like coming off the pills that you take to stay happy

Someone above has seen me do alright
Someone above is looking with a tender eye
Upon your face, you may think you're alone but you may think again

If I could do just one near-perfect thing, I'd be happy
They'd write it on my grave or when they scattered my ashes
On second thoughts I'd rather hang around
And be there with my best friend if she wants me

And far away, somebody read the letter
He condescends to read the words I wrote about him
And if he smiles, it's no more than a genius deserves
For all your curious nerve and your passion

I'm going deaf, you're growing melancholy
Things fall apart, I don't know why we bother at all
But life is good and "It's always worth living at least for a while"

If I could do just one near-perfect thing, I'd be happy
They'd write it on my grave or when they scattered my ashes
On second thoughts I'd rather hang around
And be there with my best friend if she wants me

If you think to yourself "What should I do now?"
Then take the baton, girl, you better run with it
'Cause there is no point in standing in the past
'Cause it's over and done

I took a book and went into the forest
I climbed the hill, I wanted to look down on you
But all I saw was twenty miles of wilderness so I went home

If I could do just one near-perfect thing, I'd be happy
They'd write it on my grave or when they scattered my ashes
On second thoughts I'd rather hang around
And be there with my best friend if she wants me

If I could do just one near-perfect thing, I'd be happy
They'd write it on my grave or when they scattered my ashes
On second thoughts I'd rather hang around
And be there with my best friend if she wants me

If she wants me, yeah
If she wants me, yeah
If she wants me, yeah

Who's James Blunt?  And I like this song - it has me tapping my foot and feeling like today isn't such a bad day. {#Sunny}
It's like Cat Stevens covering Bertha with The Sundays.
Beautiful strings in this tune

C'mon Fred, they may be a bit wistful or precious at times, but I wouldn't categorize them with a hack like James Blunt (with or without his storied edge & charisma).  That's just me though.
{#Cheers}

Me three.

It's got a good beat and I can dance to it. I give it a solid 7.

Much prefer songs from If Your Feeling Sinister or The Boy With The Arab Strap...

I find it a bit sickly sweet for my tastes.

Dear Castasrophe Waitress= Outstanding Album

Listening to this strains my throat.

And you know that notion just crossed my mind.

This song is about how if you are in a relationship, you are going to sacrifice some things for that relationship.  Its a universal theme and the song discusses it in a fun way with a catchy tune.  Its a great song.

This song...is never going to end.
2 rating, down from a initial 4.

I thought I was hearing Bertha for a second there, too.

Yup. Twee is accurate but RP plays lots of twee bands including The Postal Service and The Shins. I certainly like Belle & Sebastian but in very small doses.
never knew what twee was. Or what it was I that didn't like about the Shins. Don't get me wrong, I have all their albums, but Mercer's twee voice makes them 7.5s instead of 8.5s. Thanks for clueing me in

Hmmmm... Good point there...
I'd rather hear The Dead or Phish or something instead... or Postal Service or The Shins.

Major suckage.
I think that this song is about giving up everything to be with the one you love and then being happy with the result of that decision. Yes, that's sugary but how many love songs talk about the sacrifice that love often requires? It is a happy sounding song because he's happy with his decision. It fits.
When did this come out? It definately sounds like it's from the Malaise Era to me.

Is there such a thing as aural diabetes? If so, these guys should have some kind of warning label.

Cute, but...
This song is ok but their other stuff is pretty good. I like their sound.
Well, I can admit after weeks of bashing Belle and Sebastian, that finally there is one song of theirs that is... not Godawful... no, actually... decent. There. I said it.
pure schmooze............and not in a good way.......

Ahhh I was wondering where the High Fidelity references were coming from. :-)
The best song from DCW, and one of their best in general. This, folks, is why B&S are genius. Pure sun. "You're too young to put all of your hopes into one envelope..."
This song makes me want to put on a pair of hot pants and go roller skating hand-in-hand on the boardwalk of some sunny beach. In case you were wondering...
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my FAVORITE song at the moment and I am more than glad to hear it on Radio Paradise :D I am repeating myself, I know, but I like how RP keeps on suprising me with the music they are offering - so many good songs lately. Hats off to RP :)

Been sitting here with turbotax slowly going through the annual ritual, but it all seems to be going so much smoother this year. Thanks Bill for the liquid music today that is making this ritual at least somewhat tolerable.
I had no idea Haircut 100 had regrouped
I can't get over how good this song is.
very nice
If it is in High Fidelity, its gotsta be good!

I absolutely adore Belle and Sebastian, and this song is pretty good. Not their best mind.

Eeeeh, Glasgeee
I dig a few of the songs on Dear Catastrophe Waitress a lot. This one is one of the ones I would consider "just decent".

Yeah - I heard the opening, saw the 'Bell and Sebastian' on my taskbar, and thought it was going to be a strange and maybe interesting cover. But it isn't. It doesn't suck, since it doesn't have saxophones, but it seems pretty blah.

Hi fidelity?
The world can be divided into two distinct groups: Those that dig Donovan, and those that don't.
"Swee-ee-ee-eet, sweet city woman!
Why can't we all just get along? (Sorry, I think that was the music talking.)

Funny comments all! It's a sunny, gay little tune! I don't want to hear it every day, but I don't want to hear bonecrushingly depressing music all the time either.
Bertha, don't you come around here anymore?
Donovan did this stuff way-back-when. Only way better. This stuff sound contrived

Yawn. How about "Flowers on your grave" instead?
I think it ill spirited for the first comment to be negative. So I'll just hold my tongue (and fingers!)
