Make it stop! I commented on this song last time I heard it, but I can't help coming on again to say how much I hate it. I guess just 'cause someone's famous doesn't mean they can't SUCK sometimes. Ouch!

This is truly one of the worst songs I have ever heard!

Love the Kinks. Don't like this at all. His voice is all over the place. :(

This doesn't speak well for the Kinks.
Frisbee this version...... Not the way I remember it. Seems to spew apathy.....
One of the best Kink songs ever. nice version.

terrible song and lyrics. too much emphasis is placed on the lives of "stars". makes me want to puke.
Uh, maybe that's the point of the song, too much emphasis on Celluloid Heroes.

Peter, Paul and Mary - not the Kinks. s Roverfish wrote:
Puff, the Magic Dragon? Classic tune from the Kinks.
Please, I beg of you, never play this again!
Whoa, am I on Candid Internet here? Hilariously bad singing.
I got to see the Kinks twice back in the eighties. What I remember most is the way Ray would encourage the fans to sing along with the tunes. He told lot's of stories and jokes. It was like going to Ray's house and he was the host of the party. I'd go see them again in a heartbeat. Good times indeed 8)

i uploaded a few gems off "misfits" and soon some off "sleepwalker".
Great - I hope they make it! I think RPers would get a kick out of "Black Messiah," "Out of the Wardrobe" and especially "In a Foreign Land" (all from Misfits). I've always loved Ray's sly humor and mastery of both melody and language. GO KINKS!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No, they had some sweet moments well into the eighties. Come Dancing is a great tune, poignant as hell, perfectly Kinksish. Prince of the Punks was a brilliant satire of punk, Sleepwalker, Misfits and even Low Budget were fine albums, and Father Christmas is my candidate for finest rock Christmas tune. Don't Forget to Dance is another single that comes to mind. And I'm not confident that I haven't missed something, but it's true they've had NO sales lately. Wish Ray would stop trying his solo stuff and get one of the great bands of all time together again.

I like the Kinks, but this one always irritated me. Maybe it's the fact that Hollywood is irritating. :)
as someone who lives near Hollywood, and who loves the Kinks, I think it's because the lyrics are silly (not their usual clever wit) and the melody is bland beyond bland.

Very well expressed. This was, perhaps, their last enduring song before they drifted into the wilderness of the cliche.

Who else has done it?...I've never geard it before the kinks....
Joan Jett did an awful version of this. Never cared for this one anyway, but the cover was really bad.

With their uncanny mix of lyricism and crunch, I thought the Kinks would be among the artistic survivors of the 1960s. Something happened around 1975 (stuck in the limbo of being arena filling rock stars?) where the sweetness and toughness of Ray's world view seemed to disappear. Oh well, I will always love "You Really Got Me," "Waterloo Sunset" and all of the Kinks Kronikles. Rock on Ray!

I always wake up when I hear 'Celluloid Heroes'. Poignant? Maybe. Still a great song.
a G*R*E*A*T song ..... from a band that was like no other, really ... like them or not ... they created a totally unique sound ...
HATE this song.
Like this version !
Like the song, hate this version.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay! I had to stop what I was doing the instant I heard this. Rushed to the site to put my 10 rating in, thinking, this is one time I wish the scale went to 11. More Kinks on RP please! (but woo hoo for this much!)
