Exceptional piece of art. Excellent work
I've stopped to work just to let my soul fly hearing this song. WOW

Great call! From a big surrealist fan.
Freaking love Apocalytica. Seen them live two times in the time that they transitioned from cello-only to a "full" band, with a drummer and occasional guest singer. That was twenty years ago. Anyway, they have created such a great collection of songs, yet just two of those are played regularly on RP and they're both beautiful. Albeit very relaxing.

This IS supposed to be an eclectic mix radio station, so keep it coming!

Agreed. I'm often drawn to the rhythm, a strong undercurrent beat, yet this is beautiful and satisfying without one. Radio Paradise is an unmatched source of musical discovery.

yep! i see absolutely  nothing wrong with that. both are gorgeous.

Now remember to give $upport!
Put my book down to find out more about this song, just wonderful! Thank you Mike and RP.. you’re the best!
This lovely song reminds me some of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings
SUPERB!!  I like it. I Don't care what you call it.  Thanx RP!
Thank you Bill for the wonderful variety you feed us every day.

There is no station like 'Radio Paradise'.

We all 'live and learn'

Metal?

Right.  I see the music is described in the wiki entry as Neoclassical metal.

Mood and dark does not metal make IMO.

I stopped what I was doing, and just sat back to listen to this beautiful piece. RP does it again!
The album cover is pretty, but I find it highly improbable that any woman would sit her bare ass (among other things) on that prickly field. Ouch!
This reminds me, somewhat, of a Ben Harper album cover for Diamonds on The Inside from earlier today.

I was about to post this exact comment, and it it occurred to me to scroll down a bit, because another great mind probably already had.

This lovely string made me walk across the office and see who it was. That's a good thing. So I was curious: who are they? Wikipedia to the rescue where I was stunned to learn:

Apocalyptica is a Finnish metal band from Helsinki, formed in 1993. The band is composed of classically trained cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, and Perttu Kivilaakso (all three of whom are graduates of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki) and drummer Mikko Sirén. Originally a Metallica tribute band, their music borrows elements from a wide variety of genres...

What? A Metallica tribute band? Never guess it from this song. What does the rest of their music sound like?

You should definitely see them live. They are extremely powerful. They've released probably 8 albums by now, and I am surprised how much little European music gets across to the US. They have a cult status over here. On the last few albums they've made lots of vocal collaborations with singers from famous metal bands, for example Corey of Slipknot. On this particular album, most drum tracks are done by Dave Lombardo of Slayer :)
Pretty hard not to like this.  A solid 7
Wow. What a brilliant transition out of Prince's Purple Rain. You wouldn't think that it would work, but it does. Beautifully. Thanks.

Right you are. Fixed.

I noted some time ago that this track does not really support the title of "Drive".  And I'm familiar with 'Drive'.  It's on my phone tunes, and is dynamic, not wistful.

I joined your motion to go to 8, it really is beautiful. I've always enjoyed the Metallica covers by Apocalyptica but it's really nice to hear this original composition.
Nice of Bill to play Apocalyptica on the night before the election...

You can sense the beat (or pulse, if you prefer) even if you can't explicitly hear it.
Still have the wrong track title showing - it's NOT  'Drive' you played, it's Epilogue ( relief)

I don't know them very well and I'm not a Metallica fan, but I think they did an excellent job playing Metallica on cellos.

6 years old......so many comments and no change, could it be that  it is what it is?

Not on my CD, it's not.

An homage to Romeo and Juliet 1968 soundtrack "What is a Youth" also known as "Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet" composed by Nino Rota and arranged by Henry Mancini.  Very nice memory of a lovely song.
Brilliant transition.  This song's completely different orchestration and tone seem nothing like NP's The Bleeding Heart Show, but the tune is the same as the final part of that song.

Please change the title of the song on the bar. This is NOT Drive. I have Drive on my pod. This is not that. This wistful lament bears no resemblance to driving for a goal or in a fast car.

how come I still hadn't heard this song ? clearly not played enough ! ;)
I've loved Apocolyptica since I saw them in San Francisco quite some time ago. They're wonderful artists; doesn't matter whether they're covering Metallica or performing pieces like this... It's all freaking awesome.   {#War}

Everything goes better with cello.
I see bodies falling from the towers .......
Man, those Japanese CDs are expensive. This one's $21+ (at roughly 119 yen per dollar).
Guess this is one variation of what you get when classically trained musicians decide to kick back and ROCK!?  I luv it!

Beautiful, just beautiful. Cellos are just sooooo mellow....
shouldn't the name of this song be Drivel ?  too soporific for me, a solid 1 and PSD...

Music for Emo whiners to cut themselves to.  Sounds like the soundtrack to some crappy movie..

No.  The mood can be rather cathartic.  If entertained right, it can cleanse the emotions and spirit.

Nordic and strange? Yup. :)

Hauntingly beautiful.
I think the song he actually played was Epilogue (relief). I listened to a clip of Drive from this CD and it was not the same song, but Epilogue (relief) is.
Is this a 3 tissue or 4? 9 thumbs up.

Gattaca is awesome. Seems to be one of these movies that flys under the radar of most people but it really is a great, thoughtprovoking flick.

This is nothing. Try Alan Parsons' Project "The Eye in the Sky" sometime for a real cliff-jumper.

A lot of things that are really good are depressing, music and movies.

I like music like this but I can't listen to it the whole day but still good music!

That is quite a presumptuous statement to make about me just because I think this song is morbidly depressing. You know nothing about how deeply I feel, which is why this song bothers me so much. But whatever.....you know everything......

After a couple of minutes, I absentmindedly said to myself, "Jeezis, what a long goddamn introduction."  Then I realized that that was the song.  It wasn't bad, I guess, but my reaction suggests that it needed to develop a bit more.

This reminds me of Tryptich (side product of the Wild Colonials).
Now we know why the cello in Eleanor Rigby worked so well to create the downbeat mood.
heart wrenchingly sad ... love it.
I'm going to start a group called the Wristslitters. And this will be the first piece we cover.

I'm pretty musically tolerant. If you look at my ratings distribution, they're mostly 6 and above. This, however, is awful. :-(
