Metheny DOES have stage presence.  I know, I've seen he and a stellar line up band several times.  A musician bent over his instrument and giving a completely masterful 110% is the definition of presence. Here's a video of someone else who knows, and explains something of that "face" you refer to.

Two Folk Songs from 80/81 is a masterpiece.  The whole double LP/CD is fine, but that near-20 minute jazz midwest folk bop fusion solo  improv thing with that band is simply amazing.  The elec acoustic and drums sizzle, the sax solos are skronky and hot, and the sweet melody of the perfectly played closing guitar solo is one of music's miracles.  
American Garage is fine, so is the debut, so is First Circle.  I lost track of what PM has done since the late '90s. Is it good?

Is there a rating for "Stellar"? Don't know what number that would be. Not familiar with this cut but the artist unmistakable; which makes it more aaaaaaaaaammmmmmmaaazing that each artist voice through the same instrument may be so unique. Thanks RP. Lovely.

Very nice in a "let's take a ride up in the elevator shall we?" kind of way.  I say this with all due respect and affection.  I've always liked this guy, even waaaay back in the late 1970's.  I saw him, once, in a venue at Princeton University.  An old style "in the round" hall with more fine woods than you'd expect of a University.  But then again that's the Ivy's for ya.  The venue was the perfect setting for his style of music.  The University?  Maybe not so much.  Heh!

But I digress.  PM has always had a place in my heart.  Even when he was doin' the 'ol smack-down on Kenny G.  A guy who'd make PM go frothy at the mouth if-ever he heard Kenny G and "fine musician" mentioned in the same sentence.  Ah yes....rivalries...it's what makes the world spin 'round don't'cha know?

With The Falcon and the Snowman and Under Fire, this is one of the few soundtracks that I am aware Metheny has composed or contributed to. He's extraordinarily prolific and one of the most vibrant musicians around.
My college girlfriend introduced me to the band's debut album in 1978, and it remains one of my favorites. It doesn't get much better than Phase Dance and April Wind/April Joy. Of course, there is American Garage, The Last Train Home and the long-form of Two Folk Songs, off 80/81, which concludes with one of the loveliest guitar solos ever...
