Jacques Loussier on Radio Paradise? I was a little kid in the 60's when I listened to their recordings, over and over... That's probably how I learned to use a turntable...
I love it! And I am certain Bach would, too.
I'm at work, cranking away, when halfway through the song, I realized I was quite happily digging it.  I've never heard of these guys (though the Bach guy rings a bell).  But this is what makes RP so awesome -- from out of nowhere, you get a new awesome musical experience.

Thanks, Bill & Rebecca.
Why has no one made a collection similar to this and called it "I'll Be Bach!"?

Well. I am at work.. So... at least I've upgraded to bluetooth headphones.  Lol...

Back today with my bluetooth headphones and it is a much nicer experience!

Cool! I'll check it out. Thank You!

Very interesting jazz/blues approach, but more on the Bach score and less on the author's improvisations !

By your logic, most Bach shouldn't even be played on a piano at all then?
SUPERB!!!

To compare this guy to Kenny G is a fucking insult. Him and his trio are amazing. Watch live in Leipzig Cathedral.
Bach + Jazz = sublime. Great interpretation.

EPOS Sennheiser does the trick

He probably loves it. If he weren't dead.

Interesting to hear it jazzed up like this!

I once played this at a recital
I was very nervous and asked my then girlfriend to come with me support me
She walked in the second I finished
Thats how she was, but I loved her
I miss her, I miss us

This is so interesting!
Wow, that was a unique if "commercial" interpretation of a Bach piece.
What an incredible way to do this piece!
The Kenny G of classical music.  Blech.
Love the bass!
Songs like this are reasons we should financially support RP if it is possible for us to do so!!!  You are not going to hear this on many other mixes.

Saw this Trio in 1966 (the Pay Bach years) and they were extraordinary.
Strange how a few decades can render opinion ordinary.

OK, to my untrained ears -- did the pianist just hit a couple wrong notes?
You've been demoted. 5 < 4.
Yeah, baby, let's hear it for Furry Elise and the Wince Guaraldi Trio.
The transition from classical to jazz didn't quite work. The percussion crashed the gig much too soon,
I'm old, and at home; guess that explains it.  Excellent!
Wundervoll!

Yeah, because that's the only way I would want to listen to it. Save this for the old folks home pleeeze.
Is this an attempt to revive the "third wave" or can I get through this song with waders?
Seems like the playlist is a major funk....The old RIAA has got everybody down, down, down.
Idea for new Beck song, "...I'm a Loussier baby, so come hear my trio..."
thank you, god bless you, try the veal, hot-cha, some very attractive ladies in the place tonight, you like my pencil-thin moustache? I got more like it back at my place, hey, how ya doin'?

This kind of jazzing-up of classics was all very modish back in the 60s, but sounds really dated now, the sort of thing I associated with old James Bond films where this would be background music in a casino or sophisticated restaurant where the women smoke cigarettes in long holders. A bit of a museum piece, IMO.
agreed! the best was the switched on bach series - those cheezy synth sounds are laughably dated now and it's not jazz but it's still fun this bach prelude's chord progression is too blandly tonal to be very interesting in a jazz remake

This instrumental is all over the place...way too much
Nice variation of a theme. But it's only worth a 6.
10 is too low a rating for this masterpiece of Baroque and Jazz.

Don't worry, he'll probably use some of his well-funded arguments like the fact that some letters on the CD cover have been colored.

Sorry, this is just a novelty piece, neither good jazz nor good classical. May be fun to see live but it's a little irritating for being non-committal either way. Not a good argument for playing more jazz or more classical either on RP, more MIles Davis or some Rostakovich would do that.

Ah, now I'm begining to see. From this and other comments, it's starting to appear that you don't like ANY jazz. That's fine, certainly. But if you want to call one of the major musical movements of the last century, the source of an enormous quantity of very popular and highly respected music, just crap, you are going to have a hard time making that case.

RP is recongized for its eclectic and tasteful programming. This music is an example of it. If you don't like this song, just wait for the next one...
Pretty cool to hear a fresh take on a classical composition. It doesn't always work, but I appreciate the effort. Another shining example of something you'll only hear on RP. Yeah, the station goes in every possible direction musically and while you may not like each stop along the way, you sure have to enjoy the ride overall.
I think this was a great selection to add to the variety. You appreciate music more when its contrasted with other music. Similar songs one after the other will render even the great songs average and catchy
I enjoy the mix of jazz/classical here, but I think that the song fails because it seems to lose a sense of purpose to me. My ears perked up at the transitions between styles, but in the intervening spaces it just got kind of boring.
This tune is anything BUT a downer! It's a delicious break from the "all hooks and no bait" indie rock stuff.

wow. i grew up on classical music, so im not used to this kind of mixture. ive always liked this johann sebastian bach song, it's very easy to play on the piano. i dont think really like this, it strays from the true essence of the song. the cymbols seem out of place. maybe if there were just strumming of the guitar, it would be okay, but it just seems asynchornized. when it ends the prelude, it sounds a lot better.
Disagree. From a "notes only" standpoint, yes...easy to play. But the SUBTLETIES required for equal note strikes, dynamics, etc....pretty tough. Great piece, though. And I've said it before...Bach is GOD!

I saw in the playlist that RP sometimes plays classical music. GREAT but apparently I have missed these rare occasions. Looking for what is played I searched for Bach and found out that this track was never played. :( It is by a goodlike composer and perfectly arranged as Jazz. I really mean that Bach must have been inspired by Him directly. (Though personally I do not belive in god, but that's a differnt story)
"I swear to God I'm an Athiest!"
For me, this interpretation isn't far enough away from a classical one, so it ends up sounding like poorly played Bach. Too bad, because I can see where they are going with it, they just didn't make it there.

Any chance we could hear Glenn pay this sometime? It was the perfect end to "32 short films about Glenn Gould". I like this interpretation.

Do-able. A classic , kicked up half a notch. A 7.

I sooooo agree with you. But I have to laugh because that's exactly how I feel about Bonnie Raitt. What's it all mean? :-k
I got J acques Loussier TrioThe Best of Play Bach for Christmas on Super Audio CD and it is unbelievable. Like sitting beside him on the piona bench !

Bach is God.
8)
Jazz is never boring! Jazz is always good! Jazz represents everything good about music! Maybe RP could play more often sounds like Miles Davis, Coltrane, Brad Mehldau, the Marsalis family, Duke Elligton, Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker, Count Basie and the usual suspects.
Love this piece, and the upright bass player kicks butt!

You ain't listening to the right jazz! Duke annoying? Never. Prez annoying? Never. The Count annoying? Never. Sassy annoying? Never. The Hawk? Nope, never. Lockjaw? Naw. Red Garland? He'll soothe your bitten nerves. I wish you the best.

Nice arrangement. For another jazz piano take on classical standards, try Randy Waldman's "Wigged Out."
The Jake likes this one very much

Mine too. I've liked it too. Loussier's version shows a little better than the "original" version on a harpiscord, that Bach's music has an increddible groove and drive.

My parents had that record; we'd listen to it when we were on vacation in this little house in the woods that we have. It's excellent. And it's probably still there in that little house, unless my brother snitched it. I'm sorry I missed Loussier this afternoon. I'd seen rklein's request in the forum. Hope it comes around again soon!
Fantastic! Great arrange, never heard it in a "jazzy" version. What else to say? :)
