I got Michael Stipes' "Giant Leap" in mind.
Stunning, stunning, stunning. Beautiful instrumentation, melding of great musical traditions, punchy rhythms, and the beautiful voice of Swati Natekar. What an instrument she has, dang.. Moving it to a 9 with strong upside from Napoli on the Gulf.

According to the Interweb, Beck's is a cover that was released a couple of years after this lovely version. Beck does a nice version with it as well.
So - is this the original - or is Jeff Beck's version?

The rating is a 5.9. Not bad.

This is exactly why I listen to this channel - great I found it as an alternative to the main channel.

wait....WHAT?  the lame and boring instrumental cover by beck got a score of 7.2 and this original beautiful song sung by a great voice... got 4.3... This is my evidence that you people are biased against non anglosajonic music... First, I noted this with latin music and then this. Its like you all feel unholy or something when you hear foreign music. That indie electronic pop that sounds the same the whole time also lasts "4 minutes too long" and I see nobody crying...

This is complete and utter BS.

If true, we would not be listening to RP nor would there be a World/Etc Mix.   Besides which, what we like is up to us, not you.
Love it - some great memories come flooding back. Long road trips in great company on memorable adventures.
Refreshingly different. Great voice too.

Could someone help us find lyrics for this?  The ones available through a google search don't seem right.

I finally registered with RP just so I could log in and tell you you are an idiot. For those interested, the vocals are by Swati Natekar.
if you hadn't told him, im sure others would have been happy to do it for you.
Funny.. I was catching on at the very beginning that this sounded like Nadia.. having purchased the track cause I liked it so... and so.. hearing this.. thought k.. wait.. this isn't the track I purchased.. wait.. VOCALS!!? wow!... WOW!! appreciative of both it and the the remake.. very cool that Beck did this.. brought a new song to people who'd never known....

So I'm an idiot for having my own opinion? Well - with a 4 average a lot of listeners feel the way I do (that this is horrible) so we all must be idiots?

WOW Just Beautiful

It's a wonder we can feed ourselves.

I think Indian singing is an acquired taste. I'll bet by Indian standards, she is the bomb! I don't love this cut, but I don't hate it either. Just trying to stay open to those world influences~
I don't like this but it beats reggae.

Thank you Richard. As I have said on the board, you are a wealth of information!
First time I have heard this. I had assumed that Jeff Beck's version was an original instrumental. I never new Beck's version was a cover. If it's good enough for Jeff Beck to cover, it's good enough for me. Bet you never hear this on Clearchannel. Doesn't "clear" mean to remove, or that there is nothing there?

I think that this could get annoying if put in the rotation to play 3 or 4 times a day like some songs we know... but it's a refreshing twist on a great Jeff Beck rendition. Please don't ruin it for the few that like it by playing it as much as "Wonderful World". I used to like that one too but now I reach for the mute button every time that RP plays it.
Make it stop.......please make it stop I don't usually post negative comments, I figure if I don't like a song, that's diversity -I'm not going to like it all. But this was sooo painful I just had too. (I see I'm not the only one either.)
There's something wrong with me, I like this song! (OK, there are many things wrong with me, but this isn't the time or place……….)
Can't go lower than a 1. Sure wish I could. :headache.gif:

very very bad
That lasted about four minutes too long. It was interesting for the first couple minutes, but after that I was just begging for her to shut up!

Great song from an interesting disk. I spent a fair amount of time tracking it down (Thanks, RP). Most of the cuts are anti-war, anti-proliferation and appeals to India and Pakistan to tone down what could turn really ugly really fast.
This is the original... I think Jeff Beck's version is impressive too...
Though I am all for multi-culturalism - I cannot force myself to listen to this.
I just don't like it at all.

Exactly what I was thinking. Those who wrote they hated this song might want to listen to Jeff Beck's version, which will sound more familiar to 'western' ears. I think the sound is rather beautiful; I must confess, though, that I am more 'comfortable' with Beck's guitar than the voice here.
This is my first listen through the non-Beck version of this song, and this is ok, but Beck's version knocks my socks off. It's a presentation issue, like the Gourds version of "Gin & Juice", which I find much better than the original.

I don't know which version of this song came out first but both are great. Jeff Beck either has an amazing ability to capture her vocals on guitar or vice versa. Good work.

What's this ? Drum & Bass with annoying vocals over it ? Not working for me at all. 8O
Great voice. I wish the music behind here was more interesting. Make that the "least bit interesting"
Ow. My ears are bleeding. MAKE IT STOP! :fight.gif:
