If your arms are brittle beside you,
Wrapped so soft your blood, is running
I'll be there

If you're movin slowly, if we still get there
I'll be there
Such a strong desire, like hunger

All you need to hope you keep your head
Yeaaaah
Is the slow hand quickens

What youve done with all those around you
Hopeful always that someone will come and save you
I'll be there
To watch you sultry turning, seething
I'll be there
Minutes hold on to hours, gets you twisting

All you need to hope you keep your head
Yeaahhh uhhhh unnn
The slow hand quickens

How to leave it with the love you lost
You made them crawl to be without you,
The slow hand quickens

Yes, the sand is empty, in the hour glass
I'll be there
To turn it over and over, in your head

So you keep the hope you'll get your day
Yeaaah ohhhhh
As the slow hand quickens

You see too hard, to break, too cold
To burn, afraid your chance is gone
Wires are crossed, your mouth is lost
You fear you've left it far too long,
The minutes pass, the hours are gone
So hard to find your way alone

The slow hands quicken
The slow hands quicken

Aaahhahaaa

The slow hands quicken

I always feel like Matthew's vocals are completely independent from the instruments. You could overlay any of his vocal tracks over any of their songs and it would sound about the same to me.

True that, Proclivities!  Like they say, Apathy sucks, but who cares!!?

And as my past posts will point out, I'm on the "Uggg, DMB" team, even though I've encountered him while living in Seattle, and he's a pretty cool and normal dude.

I broke up with a girl once because she LOVED the DMB and I HATED it.  Now that 10 years have passed (edit - it's actually been more like 17 years now...uggg), I'm more of the 'meh' crowd, in fact I even found myself "liking" this track and rated it a 6.  That's probably the highest rating I'll ever give a DM song.

**EDIT** double UGG....I had to re-re-rate this track...back down to a 4.

real music  : P
This guy's face reminds me of Keith Allen, father of singer Lily and typecast film hard man (he cameo'd in the wicked Shallow Grave, mainly as a stiff). Sadly, his voice sounds like what Keith Allen's voice might be like :(
If mediocre was the highest measurement of listening pleasure...this would fit nicely into that category. I can actually stomach this better than most of his other rambling tunes. However, the bar isn't that high, folks.
this "music" is pathetic

Very impressive, not what I would expect from Dave Matthews. Much more interesting than his usual work.
Lyrically, I love.
Marginal at best...never saw past the hype for DMB even early in his career.

First Dave Matthews track I've been able to listen to complete in ages.  Probably since my youth and under the table era...    I'd probably really like this with the right vocalist.
For my $0.02 this guy got tiresome pretty fast. Bit of a yawn.

I couldn't agree more. It's refreshing to hear DM's voice and songwriting backed by musicians who aren't trying to play beyond their respective technical abilities. Sorry DMB members and fans but, nearly every time I hear a live recording of DMB, I notice that the drummer is playing too far forward, timing is a bit off (or worse) and at least one other member of the band is dragging the tempo down. The live recording of "Stay" is a prime example. This is high school band stuff. Still in all, I appreciate hearing Dave Matthews, as his music is intelligent and um, a bit eclectic in its combination of styles.

So many great Dave Matthews & DMB songs.  This one is not among my favorites.  For some more obscure DM stuff how about Monkey Man or something else off the Lillywhite Sessions.

Always lovin' the DMB... the old stuff is very spiritual enlightening. New stuff... not so much. Wishing Dave could take it back to the days of the Crash album...
This smacks of that White Rabbit cover tune from Sucker Punch.

Buy or rent "Under the Table and Drumming" which is one of Carter's instructional videos. I am a drummer with 20+ years of experience, and oftentimes I've thought I'd heard overdubbed drum parts on several DMB albums, thinking there is no way (physically,) to play the parts.

But seeing the video, you finally see how Carter can do these seemingly impossible parts by himself, which he often does live. (One-handed, single stroke rolls, anyone?) I will confess that I couldn't even ATTEMPT something like that, and that my two-handed single stroke rolls probably sound worse than his one-handeds.

I suppose what I appreciate most from Carter (via the videos adn various interviews I've read,) is the fact that he still considers himself to be a humble student, learning from other legendary drummers past and present. I bet you'd be pretty hard pressed to find another "rock star" with this sort of outlook. Anyway, I guess we all take our inspiration wherever we can get it, so I will continue to listen to (and learn from,) Carter and a slew of other drummers from different times and places.

Agrred, I am a drummer as well, and I have learned quite a bit listening to Carter and Gavin Harrison. Some of the best in the business right now.

I forgot all about this album!  Thanks for resurrecting it — I really loved the title track, and this one is not bad.  I much prefer Dave's solo work over DMB.  RP has a great way of making old songs fresh again.

I couldn't have said this any better. There are a lot of music snobs that just write a song off because they loathe where the song is played or the fans that generally enjoy the song. Its a hypocritical way to judge music if you ask me.

Not to fan the consistent flames of negativity but, this song is depressingly bad. The orchestral crescendo at the end is especially laughable and desparate.

I'm still trying to figure out why seemingly intelligent adults like Dave Matthews. Sure, he can strum a bit o' gee-tar and arrange tunes, but that voice of his IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!! I believe he's the "easy listening music" of Gen X and Gen Y. In other words, it sucks!

We are music lovers here, but some music enthusiasts are CERTAIN that their taste in music is the right one, and all others should be shunned. The Dead were often accused of being a sub-par band skill-wise as well, but the music both bands make is better than their individual technical prowess. You could also claim Dylan's or Hendrix's voices were a bit rough, or Neil Young couldn't keep time, but it doesn't really matter when the music itself is just so damn good! I guess there are two camps of people: those that rate music rationally, and those that rate it purely on feeling. I could listen to someone play off key and not care as long as they were playing with some passion. But then again, I listen to Wesley Willis from time to time, so what do I know. :)
I have never listened to a lot of DM and I do like this song. Perhaps I'm not fried on commercial radio like some on this board seem to be. I just said no. I suppose "Thanking A God" that I have an extensive music collection and sources like RP would be in order here.

OMG Bill this guy is still around? He's been saying the same stuff for what, about 3 years! Anyway, I don't care for DMB particularly, but I really do enjoy this song, especially the orchestration at the end. Your segue from this song into Apocalyptica's Drive is wonderful.
Not to be presumptuous, but maybe I can speak for those people who got really into DMB in high school or college. (I am now 27.) He was great then, with a refreshing and infectious sound. Years later, though, his sound, I believe, is tired and played out. I know people my age who are still fanatical about him, and I just don't understand it. Maybe it's just me, but there aren't that many bands that I was really into back in college (i.e., Phish, Allman Bros., Jayhawks, Widespread, etc.) that I still love with the same fervor or even tolerate now -- I grew out of most of them (especially the jam bands, which just keep doing the same old thing) and moved on to what I think are much more interesting bands and sounds.

I don't know. You either like Dave, or you don't. This tune reminds me of the CD "Before These Crowded Streets," my favoirte from his band... Only this one doesn't have the instrumental sounds of that album. I kinda like this darker sounding side of Dave, just as I did with that album. It DOES seem like more work went into this than the last few things that his band just kinda threw together. Not too band for a solo venture. I'd like to hear some of the other tunes.

I'm torn, i'm torn... I love Dave Matthews, but I tend to agree that there's a bit too much of him on RP. HOWEVER! In comparison to commercial radio stations, a particular artist gets played 14 times a day, and that's usually just one song. If it's too much for you, you can just run your own online radio station and play as much or as little of him as you want!! At least one can hear a variety of Dave Matthews (and his band) on RP with NO commercials. And nowhere else on earth (except maybe on my harddrive) would you be able to hear Dave matthews followed by Beethoven. How about some more classical on RP (in moderation, of course)? :-({|=
there's far too much dave mathews stuff on rp!

Is this Coldplay? :)
Since Dave and DMB have been underplayed on Radio (& TV) in my country, I'll take all the Dave Matthews I can get!!!
