Maybe they come by land
Maybe they come by sea
Maybe they've already come
Maybe they come by me

Slipping into the twilight
I ride the broken wave tonight
An old song on the radio
You knew a long time ago
An old song on the radio
Going out over the ocean

Carry
Carry

Maybe it's World War One
Maybe it's World War Three
Maybe it's Vietnam
Maybe we're on TV

Falling into the tall grass
Melting into the tall grass
Spilling out over the lip
And into the ocean, into the ocean

Carry
Carry
Carry me

Over the ocean, over the ocean
Over the ocean, over the ocean
Over the sea, carry me
Over the sea, carry me

Maybe I've come so far
Maybe I'm on my knees
Maybe I'm dead or alive
Maybe I'm none of these

Just an old song on the radio
Someone put on a long time ago
Going out over the ocean
Over and over the ocean
Over and over the ocean
Over and over the ocean
Over and over the ocean
Over and over the ocean
Over and over the ocean
Over and over the ocean
Over and over the ocean
Over and over the ocean
Over and over the ocean
Over and over the ocean

A voice like summer.
Meh.......
dunno why Jay Joyce's production on this one is getting slagged...{#Question}
he's done a TON of decent work...
Another PG  song  I heard on RP, and I already have it, dammit I like it.

I think the same thing about this album.  There are a couple of outstanding cuts on it (Goodbye), but the rest is pretty harsh compared to her other stuff.  I'm a huge PG fan, but this is not my favorite album.

I was trying to figure whether I like this or not...and I dont. The sound is to forward for my tastes and ultimately becomes fatiguing.

I thought the same thing about "Flaming Red" for the longest time, mainly because it's so different than her other albums. However, as I've opened up and given it a chance, I've really started to like it more than I did originally. It's definitely not my favorite album by her, but I now like most of the songs on the disc (including this one).

It doesn't get any better than this.
It´s a great tune from a great album, love her.

Completely disagree.

Great artist! I love her! {#Cheers}
Impressive cover art. I have loved everything I've heard off of this record. Time to make the purchase.

That "sound" - it's called distortion - introduced intentionally by way of a "fuzz box" . Contrary to the two of you, I think this is her best album. Emmylou Harris also uses a fuzz box on a lot of her work.

I love it, too. I think it's a little apply-orangy to say it's not as good as her others. It's simply her most obviously rock/pop.

Does anybody have a clue what I'm talking about?

{#Stupid} Not sure what "envelope" she's stretching the limits on with this tune... It's probably the most mainstream in structure, production and melody of all the songs on this album. And this album, by her own accord, is one of (if not the) most commercial radio friendly (see: conventional) of the bunch.

An OK tune, but "ho-hum" by Patty's standards.

I think the word you are scratching for is "accessible".  Yeah, it's not going to be the subject of any songwriting thesis but it does give a very good entry point to Patty's catalog for those curious.  Nothing wrong with that.   Even Shakespeare had to pay the bills.

I disagree - one of her best albums if not the best. I just think her song formats are unconventional and "stretching the envelope" such that it takes some listening to acquire the taste.

Just like the emoticon emotes and as the expression goes, "It's like beating your head against a brick wall".  Sorry to say, but that's exactly what you're doing when you show your dislike for Patty because she is divine and most of the folks here at RP know it.

So go ahead, beat your head against that brick wall...won't do you any good though....OR, maybe, it'll knock some sense into you.

I agree. This song is one of my favorites off of this CD, though.

Say it one more time.
i dont care what Patty does, I love her music. there are only a couple of songs I don't like. that is a great ratio.
This pop-like production does Ms Griffin a terrible disservice.
Simply horrible.
Patty is great; I own some, including this CD. Gotta say this tune is repetitive and ho hum.

Being a PG fan, I agree with you. My point was that if a person rates a song a "1" perhaps he/she could throw in an adjective or two to elucidate.

Maybe it's just me but her voice seems quite high in the mix and she's only hitting a few notes. Drowns the rest of the music out.. hmm..
I say this everytime I hear you play her, THANK YOU! Patty is awesome!
She needs more respect in the industry... Great stuff...

Can't wait to see Patty at the Spring Strawberry festival!! I discovered her through RP and have purchased both Big Red and A Kiss In Time. Both are excellent!
No "Living with Ghosts"? Are you crazy? This is some of Patty's finest work. Pick this one up, before you do anything else, get this album, it will blow your socks off (especially if you're already a fan!).

Same story here. I've passed Patty to a person who, I thought, knew more music of this genre than I. He hadn't heard of Patty. That's fixed. She's great.
I first heard Patty Griffin hear and have since bought several albums. I think Flaming Red is not Her best album, but is so much better than most of the music in this world it hard to compare to other singers.
