Why did you steal the matches
From the one room motel?
Once they gave you answers
Now they give you hell
They will never understand
They wonder where did they go wrong
How could you be so selfish?
Why can't you get along?

And as you pray
In your darkness
For wings to set you free
You are bound
To your silent legacy

You've seen it in the movies
And you've heard it on the street
Craving the affection
Your blood is full of heat
They don't listen to your reasons
As original as sin
Deny all that you feel
And they will bring you home again

And as you pray
In your darkness
For wings to set you free
You are bound
To your silent legacy

Your body is alive
But no one told you what you'd feel
The empty aching hours
Trying to conceal
The natural progression
Is the coming of your age
But they cover it with shame
And turn it into rage

And as you pray
In your darkness
For wings to set you free
You are bound
To your silent legacy

You are digging for the answers
Until your fingers bleed
To satisfy the hunger
To satiate the need
And they feed you on the guilt
To keep you humble, keep you low
Some man and myth they made up
A thousand years ago

And as you pray
In your darkness
For wings to set you free
You are bound
To your silent legacy

Mothers, tell your children:
"Be quick, you must be strong
Life is full of wonder
Love is never wrong"
Remember how they taught you
How much of it was fear
Refuse to hand it down
The legacy stops here

Oh, my child
Oh, my child
Hush
Hush, my child
My child
Oh, my child
Oh, my child
Oh, my child
Oh...

Newly married. Eat your heart out, Julie Cypher!
Update on new Melissa album, Lucky. ho hum . There are 3 or 4 tunes I really like but I'm thinking that perhaps I've outgrown her. Oh well, back to the Dead, Cowboy Junkies and Bruce Cockburn, who seldom disappoint me. Melissa should really work on her lyrics. They seem pretty lame these days. Geez and I used to be a huge fan. Oh well.
melissa etheridge and janis joplin shouldn't even be used in the same sentence. i just did it and i already regret it. no comparison
kinda glad some ME is in the playlist. (husband's bopping his head to it) I had a tape of her in high school and seen a performance on TV once. She is all soul. oh what was it....oh yes her very first one.....so passionate unlike Eddie Money
I think my brother hit the nail on the head years ago when he labeled her the female Eddie Money.
A poor man's (or woman's) Springsteen.

I can understand what you are saying but I have to tell you that Melissa is ANYTHING but insincere. She completely pours her heart and soul into every tune just like Janis Joplin did. I can say this because I have seen her perform live several times and I have never been disappointed.
I an appreciate that. All the same, I'd like to hear this lyric and music sung with a bit of a different approach. I don't have a singer's name in mind ("talk amongst yourselves" ;-) I also have to agree with what 'om' was mentioning earlier.

I like the music and instrumentation real well. But the vocals remind me of that Michael Bolton overwrought, insincere thing. Brrr.

She's got a new album coming out soon. Lots of upbeat tunes I am told now that she is in a happy relationship. I'm hoping it's better than her last two albums which have not been all that great.

One of my favorite ME tunes. Thanks for the upload MsJudi By the way Rebecca loves MEĀ—insider scoop :-$
AWESOME! The dynamics are great on this. I think she still had Mauricio Lewak on drums and Kevin McCormick on bass on this album. They really gave her such a great foundation, and live they were incredible together. (I'm thinking of the 'Brave and Crazy' tour, when they played the Roxy.)
ugh!
Not sure why this song would get such negative comments but I love it! (It doesn't hurt that I uploaded it, either...) :sunny.gif:
GRRRRRROANNNNN!
Preachy, preachy, preachy
God... haven't heard this song in years... --d
