Drunk on a morning sky
it's the kind of day
you wanna wrap your arms around
watching the white birds fly as they circle up and float in space
preaching their religion without a sound
and I'm bursting with Everything
and I'm light as a cloud
'cause Love is filling me up
it's taking the edges off my heart
and Love just won't let me be
I'm floating just like a leaf in it's stream
what a lovely thing
and I know the world's gone mad
crazy with greed
but I can't fix it all today
'cause my rollercoaster heart is climbing up it's track oh yeah
and there ain't a damn thing in it's way
and I'm stuoid with aimless glee
and I'm talking to the trees
chorus

So this is where the intro to yet another Beck piece comes from? Obviously, on RP when a song by Beck (Golden Age) is followed by that of another musician, there may be a connection, in this case the sitar (I suppose this is a sitar). Pretty cool juxtaposition.
Just really like Ms. York. This album is wonderful.

Full agreement from the German weather front. And when do Germans and Dutch agree on anything?

I wonder how she got the nickname Bird? Perhaps she has a high metabolism, or perhaps she hops around like a bird, or maybe she doesn't eat much (like a bird) or perhaps she spends the winter down south....who knows? {#Stupid}

In the finale of season 2 of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" she plays a very intersting, and talented masseuse.

This song is a lovely thing.

{#Roflol} I don't know Rotterdam at all, but if you want seriously dull, take the North Sea ferry across to Hull and spend a wet Sunday afternoon there. You'll lose the will to live. Not that I agree with you on the song which I very much like.

First I have heard of this! I didn't know she sang (big West Wing fan), this is surprisingly good, not because I wouldn't think she can sing, but wondering why I have not heard more of her in the music world.{#Stupid}
black velvet
Makes the cold, gray Seattle sky look cheerful. . .

You're right. Nominated for an Academy Award for "In The Deep" from the movie Crash.

This is really great.  10

Most of the songs are included on her CD "Wicked Little High", which is readily available.

Say Bird York ten times fast....Bjork

I had to resort to a torrent to get a preview of the whole thing. Guess what, some of the MP3s end with Bill's voice saying “That's Bird York on Radio Paradise.” Others seem to be ripped from other radio streams. {#Rolleyes}
‘Luckily’, the album isn't that good that I would want to buy it. I find “Haunting You” by far the best song, some others like this one are good to OK, but the rest is run-of-the-mill.

Sweet enough but unexceptional.  Looks like her cheekbones got her her record deal, not her audaciously envelope-busting musical output.

I was WONDERING why she looked so familiar on that album cover art! Now I know why.
This album is almost unavailable! What wonderful obscure music!
Why does this song make me think of Phantom of the Opera? There is something about the flow of the singing...
Wow, I never before rated this song? Gotta be an "8"! Interesting set(ting), too: 7:14 am - Toots & The Maytals - Blame On Me (w/ Rachel Yamagata) 7:10 am - Bird York - Lovely Thing 7:05 am - Michael Hedges - Rickover's Dream 7:01 am - Rilo Kiley - The Execution of All Things
If I hear another song with sitar I'm going to hurl.
How on earth did this get on the RP playlist? Anodyne.

No, you're bitter. But that's okay. This one gets a 8. Great melody. Awesome groove.
I would love to hear what Bill might name his playlists... This last set could be something like "you can find instruments from India in the strangest places..."

Wow, I never would have made that connection. I actually sent a postcard to ABC when they cancelled that show. And I never do that. Stoopid title for a pretty smart show.
What's that I hear in the background?
Her voice is nice, but her trying to sing in Indian style doesn't work well. I hear this often with western singers trying to sing eastern. Something isn't quite there.
Byork seems much more mature these days
Her vocal departures, particularly on the sustained "love" in the chorus, reminds me of something else, something haunting -- Beth Orton, maybe. This artist is new to me but every time she comes on here, my ears prick up.
8) Sounds exactly like Sarah Harmer! Not that that is a bad thing...
This song is a lovely thing, too.

Was that "I'm stupid with painless glee"? Love it, if it is, even if I'm not sure exactly what it might mean. Sounds like being in love, though, eh?
I just got this CD and it's wonderful.... Norah Jones has nothing on this lady!
That "yeah-ah-ah" at the end sounds just like Alison Moyet at the end of her song "Solid Wood." I should upload that.
:-k i'm somewhat annoyed, but maybe need to give it another chance.
Nice sitar right out of the beginning of The Beatles' Tomorrow Never Knows.

Toby's Ex ! Whoda thunkit.
There seems to be a renaissance of the women's "singer/songwriter" genre. Bird is one at the forefront. Glad to hear this here.
I heard her the first day that I started listening to RP and immediately went to Amazon to buy it. (I was stopped by my GF who yelled at me "Dang it! Don't buy it! Make a list so your family and I have things to buy for X-Mas!" I can't wait.)
I diggit. just wish that the indian sounds stayed more prominent throughout, rather than just primarily in the beginning.

I confess that does make me like this more.
