This is such a groovy song on a sunny March day. Putting a little bounce in my butt. The fact that the Clash covered this song makes it all the better.

This was played behind the DJ's yacking whilst he was announcing the Top 20 chart on BBC Radio 1 back in the day. Bag of chips at lunchtime on schoolday Tuesdays in a mate's house, listening to who was topping the charts. My God, that seems a long time ago...

Two of the musicians here, Steve "the Colonel" Cropper and Donald "Duck" Dunn, were both featured members of the Blues Brothers band in their hit movie from 1979. Their Wikipedia pages read like a Hall of Fame museum page. No wonder Booker T and the MGs had such a range, they were all true rock & roll legends in the making!

It's actually unlikely that Jake and Elwood came from Cal City. Those accents indicate a distinctly Bridgeport or Canaryville Chicago neighborhood upbringing.

An amazing story of an integrated band in the 60s in Memphis that was the house band for Stax Studios. Many hits due to their writing and performing credit.
Later, Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn were in the Blues Brothers movie band with Paul Shaffer -- whose real job was the Letterman Late Night bandleader.

I remember Armed Forces Radio at Clark Air Base in the Philippines used this song as their morning show theme in the early 1980s. They used a version with a slightly slower tempo. This version on RP sounds like a different cut.

Can't believe this hasn't been played since 2004. Bill, please play this ( and about a thousand others) and silence the "played too much" critics.

My all-time fave Booker T tune is "Still Can't FInd What I'm Looking For". It sounds better than than U2's version. Booker's organ has a better voice...

Agreed. The version on Black Market Clash is quite good, especially when combined with the reggae cuts "Armageddon Time" and "Bank Robber". Of course, the original is superlative.

Actually, this was ripped via WMA Workshop from the cd, at 192. Sorry if the sound is sub-par.

Yep....right after you hear the intro of this song is the part of the movie when John Candy pulls up a seat with some of Illinois finest and tells them he wants to see the Blues Brothers play before he busts them. Duck Dunn! Why I started playing bass along with major inspiration from James Jamerson.
As did I brother. Dunn and Jamerson were pioneers of melodic bass lines taking over the low end rather than the far more fundamental/rudimentary root and 5th style common to country western and bluegrass. Paul McCartney mastered the melodic style and carried it forward as did John Paul Jones with Zep.
Melodic bass playing is like getting away with murder but requires a mastery of the fretboard. You provide a counterpoint melody to that being played by the rest of the band like a panther prowling in the background and pouncing at will.
