a welcome obscure blast from the past.
awful
About a 4 from me. It started out interesting and then kind of fizzled. Extra point for playing a song I've never heard before.

Hated the sounds at the beginning, but the rest is interesting...I like foreign stuff anyway. Hindu right?

I swear, half the battle at RP is to expose some people who have never heard music outside of "classic rock"... then maybe their ears can grow accustomed to languages other than english, scales other than western, and rhythms other than boom/chuck in 4/4. Eventually, they might even go out and buy a Youssou N'Dour CD or something. One can hope. Thanks RP.
Personally, I never say 'no' to a new sound, or a new artist - until I have heard what they have to offer. To this, I listen, think, and then say, 'no, thank you'. I rated it 3. But keep the new stuff coming, you never know..

Sorry, just thought of it... :umbrella.gif:

That's the best and the worst at the same time...
/me likes this
Was that a snippet of John McLaughlin's Peace One in there? I quickly turned up the volume to hear it better, but I missed it.
I've been wanting to hear some Waterbone, thanks. I've noticed that you guys often play songs in pairs. You've got to do Enigma's "Page of Cups" next! :)
Excellent groove! My toe is tapping and my head is bobbing.

What's bogus about "coining a phrase", perhaps having associations in another context, in describing an experience ?
I really like this song. It's nice. More like it, please!
i sense something "fishy" here ($) ? World music is fine (and would like to listen it more here) when it's captures the original spirit and voice of the down-to-the-streets-and-down-to-the-common-folks-culture... nono for the Eurovision Song Contest songs- alikes etc., thanks ( just one man's opinion)

lmao where'd you get those smileys? (they express my sentiments about this particular piece of dreck too)
the beginning of the song sounds like the intro theme to HBO's Carnivale... which also ties in well with the "King of Cups" tarot motif.
this song is icky and not good. (and i sometimes like international music a lot.)
Tofurkey!?

this falls into a vague rp category that has a cheesy-ethnic-techno feel and, so far, gets low marks from our esteemed rp community... happy thanksgiving 2003! hope we mostly are avoiding turkey-massacre behavior and are instead enjoying veggie alternatives like tofurky! thanksgiving is SO perverted! but the family bonding part is important. sorry for rambling, but HEY, it's thanksgiving...

The lead singer sounds like a cat in heat w/ severely damaged vocal chords!
Nahh, just using the 24-tone Eastern scale. We Westerners forget that there are more than twelve tones, we call half of their tones semitones.
Now I know where the reality show 'Survivor' got that horn sound... Fair tune.
You know , I liked this song. But I like alot of different music. Wouldn't probably buy the album but that's what I like about RP. A nice diversity.
Their label's web page has this explaination: "..."King of Cups" was named after a waiter in the bazaar area of Cairo. Tape was rolling as we caught the waiter, chanting and playing teacup percussion with an enormous tray of teacups balanced on his head. The lyrics of this song describe a young bride, who, while working in a rice field in northern Iran, yearns for her beloved to return from a saafar, a hunting expedition...."
Not my cup of tea...I prefer China. pbm 8^)
Eeeek. :(
Well RP has swung into that nether region past my patience to wait for good songs. So will have to come back later after this has passed....
MORE MIDDLE EASTERN STUFF, PLEASE!
When I heard the opening note of this song, I really thought it was the survivor theme song.
Stunning opening! Stunning ending...but the inbetween leaves a lot to be desired.
I actually like this! But then, I like middle eastern rock >:)
everyone in unison
