Maybe he cut his musical teeth singing in an ensemble where vibrato is verboten (unless you're soloing). Or maybe it's just a natural thing, as you suggest. (Presuming your're still engaged with us RPers from beyond, Cynaera; to think otherwise fails.)

Okay - whoever originally posted these lyrics is clearly not internet-savvy. They shout, they don't use punctuation of any type.  But, here they are. Have fun slogging through them.  I still like this song, even though I can't make much sense out of these heiroglyphics. {#Lol}

Okay - he's got a rather nasal voice, with no discernable vibrato.  And I like it.  Jackson Browne doesn't have a vibrato, either, and it used to bug me no end, because even I have a vibrato when I sing - but now, I'm not so critical about that.  It's what a song says to me that makes me love it or ignore it.  This song says something to me. They are back together and as good as ever -- well, at least Farrar and another group. He's fantastic. The new CD is great, and they were very much ON in concert -- saw them 2 weeks ago.

Stated perfectly. It took me years to really get into Sebastapol but now I really like it. Upon initial listens I had trouble sticking through it to the end because it is dense with material. Nowadays I know what to listen for.

Son Volt reunited, at least temporarily for gigs at the South by Southwest music festival here in Austin last week. I don't know if they are planning other gigs or not. Sadly, I missed the show!

still not a great fan of this album. i just can't connect with it like farrar's other work. i like terrior blus much better. but still, sebastapol has a few great songs.

Not that much - I love this album. Has a great feel and vibe. It's not that long either. If you like the Uncle Tupelo stuff, you will like this album. Give it a go! :D

I'm hoping MTR is correct, I love the stuff he did with Uncle and Son, but have felt that his direction has been meandering around in his solo work. Terroir Blues is a big listen that I may never get throught. How much effort do I need to fully digest Sebastapol MTR ? ?

hey, it's my song. i think i'm being placated... great song, though. the album was dissapointing, i expected a lot more from the frontman of both uncle tupelo and son volt, but there are a couple gems on it.
