I'm with ya. I'm a big fan of Lanois as a producer, but I bought this CD and, to my great surprise, the whole thing was one big blah from beginning to end.

Yes...He produced "So", "Us", and "Birdy". He has also produced U2, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Neville Bros., Luscious Jackson, Jon Hassell, and DYLAN. Not to mention co-producing for numerous others. (Can ya tell I like him?)

I'm not sure it causes me enough pain for a 1. For me this song epitomizes the 3 rating. I could miss it entirely if it came on and I was in the middle of work. I really think this whole album is a masterpiece. I agree with the person below who said that it's a mood album, but it captures that "mood" so perfectly, precisely, and concisely. It taps a nerve, and just sticks to it for 50 miinutes. No one can do it like he does. He just comes at you from so many different angles, but hits the same spot every time.

I downloaded this CD on a whim and it turned out to be a great CD if you are in the mood for some rather mellow sonic exploration, but you need to be in the right mood to really enjoy it.

I heard about 2 seconds of this and knew it was Daniel Lanois. A very distinctive sound. I\'ll get this disc, but to me his solo stuff has fallen short since Acadie.
