Which guy? The sax player? 'Cause at the time of this recording the sax player was BALD. Oh yeah, and Bela, the banjo man, had a fairly normal non-ponytail do.
I'd rather hear Jaco Pastorius' version of "Blackbird".
And another thing, it's too damn long.
*DING* "Floor five, Linens, Kitchenwear and Handbaskets." :-&

Please, play some OTHER Bela. (Just not Lugosi)
Or, y'know, like, DON'T.
Brings to mind an elevator in Telluride.
Man! Incredible! The spirit of Jaco lives on.
i really love bela and this album, but not so much this song - play us some more bela, something different?
Generally like Bela Fleck. Don't enjoy this song. One bit. Oh well. Sh*t happens...
Now THIS is getting dangerously close to old-time Elevator Music. You know, when you couldn't play the Beatles' own "Michelle" because those long-haired boys might UPSET some people... Please, play some OTHER Bela. (Just not Lugosi)
I thank RP for bringing Bela Fleck into my little world. I'd never heard of him & them. Michelle, however, just doesn't translate well in this version. It's almost annoying, but not quite. :-s
I like Bela Fleck, but if you like this stuff, you should check out the 'Pickin' On' series. Some of that stuff blows this out of the water. Butch Baldesari and company taking on the Allman Brothers, The Stones, Aerosmith, Zepplin, Beatles, Pink Floyd. Some real incredible stuff. Purists might hate it, but if you like bluegrass and like different arrangements of your old favorite classic rock, it's definately worth checking out.
Why Bill??????
Nice to hear Bela Fleck here, though this may not be the best representation of their works.
Although Howard Levy is an incredible "harpist", I don't miss him at all in the current Flecktones lineup/sound. I think they did the right thing by parting company after the first few albums.
Not my cup of tea
8O Isn't this what they play in Chinese restaurants because they don't want to pay for the original songs?

I don't disagree with ya, but I guess I take the "better some than none" view. And you and I both know there are some who know none of Bela. And that's a shame. This is nice, but I really liked the Bluegrass Sessions. Got anything there, Bill?
Good luck getting anything resembling bluegrass played. I'd love to hear that too, though. :nodhead:

So many great Flecktones tunes - so many people to be introduced to this great group of musicians... why play this beautifully executed but somewhat smarmy example? Would you promote Sinatra by playing his duet with Bono?

FYI - This song is NOT on the Live Art album.
you're absolutely right - "Oh Darling" is on the Live Art album. "Michelle" is on Cosmic Hippo.

lol ... didn't recognize it was the beatles till half way in.. :)
Haha, neither did I. I didn't catch on until I started humming the melody along with it. Then I thought "wait a minute... I know this song!" Well, melody. You know what I mean.
I like this a lot. I'm surprised by the not so hot ratings. The RP listeners seem to like just about everything from the Beatles, and they like Bela, so I would have guessed this would be a winner! That's ok though. Just another surprise from RP!
Yay! wonderful... plus they'll be in DC in May in Concert!!!
I still like Bela, but you don't ever have to play this track again...
Sounds like Sesame Street. This song brought to you by the letter "G".
This is beautiful. Anyone who rated it less than 3 should be ashamed. Dammit.
Bravo. Bela & co. took a song that everyone knows (be it love or hate, we all know it) and turned it inside out and upside down. Proof that a great musician can make cheezy sound sublime.
FYI - This song is NOT on the Live Art album.

Edgar Meyer is on the bass.
unless I'm mistaken and Meyer was a guest on this track, it sounds to me just like Vic Wooten, the Flecktones' own amazing bass-cadet.
Mayeb it's part of that whole Blue Grass revival thing...I'm underwhelmed

Well I wish they would play stuff like this on elevators. Nice bass-work too btw, who's playing?
Edgar Meyer is on the bass.
Funny, but... um... NO! :headshake:

Sucko-barfo. This is an experience that I don't need to relive.
Horrible.
I love the Flecktones, but this is just wrong.
Neat version.
3rd floor. Foundations. 4th floor. Men\'s suits. 5th floor. Kitchen ware.
Fly on Victa!!!
\"Classical Banjo\", I have NEVER experienced. And Basswork extraordenaire.
lol ... didn\'t recognize it was the beatles till half way in.. :)
great banjo player, but no thanks on the kenny g sound
Not often that I find myself consulting the nuances between \"sucko-barfo\" and whatever comes just a notch above.I\'m more than usually tolerant of some of the genres that some purists deride as \"elevator music\" but this really did conjure up a shopping mall. It was my least fav. Beatles\' treacle-pop in the first place. :(

Unfortunately, any instrumental version of a Beatles song will carry that baggage.
