Is the release date an error? Surely this pre-dates 1985... this is probably some compilation, but I like to know when the song first came out. for the record 1958 just looked it up.

I believe Esquerita (one of his mentors) had a major hand in it as well. Looks like he got his piano style (and possibly much of his look/style) from this guy.

one of the most surreal things that ever occurred to me happened a few years ago, when i'd first moved to LA and my dad was out visiting for the first time... we'd just spent the whole day slogging through the expensive tourist-traps on Hollywood Blvd -- the trinket shops, the Ripley's museum, the Walk of Fame, a mediocre and wildly overpriced lunch at Musso & Franks... we were broke, exhausted, cranky, staring bleerily at the footprints in front of the Chinese Theatre, when suddenly, this long black stretch limo pulls up to the sidewalk next to us, the window glides down, and there's a Jheri-curled, heavily-made-up face beaming out at my father --
"HI! I'M LITTLE RICHARD!" he shouts, extending his hand.
Immediately pulled out of his torpor, my dad takes his hand, and shouts back:
"HI, LITTLE RICHARD! I'M JIM!"
After which, Little Richard deputized my father to give out little evangelical prayer books (with his head-shot tucked inside the back cover) to the other tourists milling around outside Mann's. Dad (a life-long agnostic) got so caught up in it he went back for a second handful...
Now, I don't know what's weirder -- that story, or the fact that almost every time I've told it, someone tells me "Oh my God! That happened to me too!"
