(Michael Stipe)
Fall over myself
Don't mean to interrupt
I was miles away
Things I forgot
Are the footstools of God
That's how I behaved
I frighten myself and folded my hand
As you talked to God

I love the way you dream (9x)

Even my most base complaint my sweet
My aims were lower
And even though all my restraint my sweet
My aim was clumsy
And even if there's only one thing I want for you
I want for you

I love the way you dream.

I love the way you love the way you dream, one for me one for you
One for me, one for you.

This was 22 years ago.
The setup is: Celestion Ditton 66 studio monitors, Accuphase 405? Amp, the secret source: my cell with equalizer, all basses up. Great!
That's Stipey right. Back on the horse Michael. Let's have more tunes please.
Listening to this triggered a thought to see if Boy (Go) from The Golden Palominos is in RP's library.  It indeed is!  Would love to hear it played.
Good start, but then Michael Stipe spoils it...

I like this. I downloaded entire album. Quite surprisingly, I really enjoy every  bit of it.

lovely vocals and rhythm
Wasn't this just played an hour ago? OK song but maybe not so frequently.
I just love this so much... Thanks for playing!

It is hard for me to listen to this "chopped" version. The rhythm seems somehow out of phase, among other criticisms. I halfway expect Bill to follow this with that old AM radio edit of the Doors "Light My Fire;" (the version without Ray Manzarek's organ solo)!
This gets a 6 from me: the 8 minute full-length version is a 10. IMHO.
Here are some of the lyrics from the full length version of this song that are missing from this version. The longer version features Asha Bhosle more prominently than this severely cut version, and also features an unknown sadhu at the beginning, speaking a couple of lines. The full length version is in the library, but it has a 6.6 approval rating, compared to this version's 6.7.

Spoken word:

I have to listen to the silence... I have to experience Him.

Worth a repeat. This song is just one of a larger fantastical work that is the movie 1 Giant Leap. It's intention is to remind us that the entire humanity of this earth are bound together in spite of cultural differences.
Can't rate this lower. Not my style. Ugh. Where's the emoticon for "sucko-barfo"?

not so bad as a lot of others, but I wish these songwriters got out and talked to people so their vocabulary was sufficient to come up with just "I love the way you dream" over and over and over and...
Such a beautiful track this... And the awesomeness that is RP... now I find there's so much more to the track. I just love the mental expansion offered on this forum. Thanks to all.

Fantastic track from a fantastic album!  Watch the movie.... this was a really cool and innovative way to create an album  (even for 2001). The process is as interesting as the the range of music on the album.  {#Bananajam}

Beautiful music-album. This version sounds different from the cd though. The cd's song is much longer and the arrangement is amazing! imo of course but worth listening to not just this track but the whole cd. I couldn't find one song that I didn't like on it.

But its Eastern screeching, which for me makes it exotic and good.

I've always liked this "collaboration". Just yesterday friend of mine posted the simple comment of "I Love Dreaming!" and I said, "And I Love the way you dream!" I then went to share a video and found there are as many strange and weird version of videos as there are in the versions I heard of the song.

very cool groove...  love it...

I am definitely dating myself with this: I remember one of the first overly simplistic standards by which I judged whether a radio station was "good" or "bad" was whether it played the full length version of the Doors "Light My Fire," or the butchered shorter version of it. {#Grumpy}

As I have said before, this cut version of the song is an 8, while the full-length version is a 10.

On the other hand, major points are awarded to Radio Paradise for being the station that introduced me to this song in the first place. {#Meditate}
I hope old Mike Stipe is going to be open to some more of this sort of collaboration now.  So many good things have come from that in the past.  I particularly love Your Ghost with Kristen Hersh and I'll give you my skin with the Indigo Girls.
Dig it!!!

A little  Athens, GA theme going on here: Widespread Panic a few songs back, now a touch of R.E.M. (in the form of Michael Stipe)
This song is so beautifully sexy...

As long as it remains a dream everything  should be fine.
Music is, to me, proof of the existence of God. It is so extraordinarily full of magic, and in tough times of my life I can listen to music and it makes such a difference.

Perfect segue from Fallen.....sheer perfect.

Michael Stipe, isn't he well-known?  {#Evil}
LOVE this album and this is my favorite song from the whole album. Asha Bhosle is simply divine and the full length version of this song is much better. In fact, I'm going to go listen to it right now as I have it on my phone and I don't need to hear "Long Time Gone" again which is playing now.

Here are some of the lyrics from the full length version of this song that are missing from this version. Not me. I've always the Moon Safari CD cover is pretty dopey. I kind of like this CD cover.

This  {#Yell}
The uncut original is a 10, and it isn't that long! OK, so the Hindi lyrics take a bit of research to find a translation, but it's worthwhile.
This chopped up mess is still an 8.  But it's a shame.
OK, you love the way I dream. I get it. Now stop singing.
-1 on the doppio scale {#Sleep} .  In other words it's gonna cost me $2.50 to get back where I was before I heard it.

Es la primera vez que escucho este tema y me parece realmente interesante. Aunque en apariencia la voz de la mujer parece irrumpir, es tan suave y melodica como la del Americano que la acompaña. Además la percución es hermosa.

Gracias.

a cultural experience...a 'dream' come true.  {#Meditate} the long version is better though

Thanks RP... LOVE this CD, bought the CD and the DVD... what a great song.  I think you have to have a more adventurous spirit to get this... no offense to those who don't like it, I think it's an acquired taste.

She is best known as a Bollywood playback singer, although she has a much wider repertoire. Her career started in 1943 and has spanned over six decades. She has done playback singing for over 950 Bollywood movies<2> and sold many records.<3> She is the sister of the equally accomplished Lata Mangeshkar.

Bhosle is considered one of the most versatile South Asian singers — her range of songs includes film music, pop, ghazals, bhajans, traditional Indian Classical music, folk songs, qawwalis, Rabindra Sangeets and Nazrul Geetis. She has sung in over 14 languages including Hindi, Urdu, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, English, Russian, Czech, Nepali, Malay and Malayalam.

Asha Bhosle is believed to have sung over 12,000 songs. Though her sister, Lata Mangeshkar was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records during 1974-1991, for having sung the most songs in the world, reputed sources have introduced concerns to its veracity, claiming that the Guinness counts were exaggerated and Bhosle has recorded more songs than Mangeshkar. Bhosle herself pointed out that she has made the most recordings by any singer - 12,000.<4>

Thanks for the information.  Indian music is underlooked by so many (so called) music lovers in the US.  I love the infectious grooves.

In the last 10 years, I haven't really liked R.E.M. because it just seemed like they just weren't hitting that sweet spot (for me).

Without knowing it, this is what I always thought was natural for Stipe. That was an awesome song.

One of the only records I've heard to properly integrate western pop music with world influences and keep the integrity of both. This track's the weakest on the album, but still worthwhile.
