Radio
You could hear the music on the AM Radio (AM Radio)

The VCR and the DVD
there wasn't none of that crap back in 1970
We didn't know about a World Wide Web
It was a whole different game being played back when I was a kid

Wanna get down in a cool way?
Picture yourself on a beautiful day
Big bell bottoms and groovy long hair
Just a walking in style with a portable CD player

No!
...you would listen to the music on the AM Radio
(AM Radio, AM Radio)
Yeah.
...you could hear the music on the AM Radio
(AM Radio)

Flashback to '72
Another summer in the neighborhood hanging out with nothing to do
Sometimes we'd go driving around
In my sister's Pinto, cruisin' with the windows rolled down

We'd listen to the radio station
We were too damn poor to buy the 8 track tapes
There wasn't any good time to want to be inside
My mom would want to watch that TV all goddamn night

I'd be in bed with the radio on
I would listen to it all night long
Just to hear my favorite song

You'd have to wait but you could hear it
On the AM Radio (Am Radio, Am Radio)
Yeah
...you could hear the music on the AM Radio
(AM Radio)

I can still hear mama say "Boy...Turn that radio down!"

[Spoken]: Aw mom, not that show again! I don't
want to watch that show. Can't we watch Good
Times or Chico And The Man, or something cool?
Turn it off!
(Turn it off, turn it off, turn it off)

Things changed back in '75
We were all growing up on the in and the outside
We got in trouble with the police man
We got busted getting high in the back of my friend's van

I remember 1977
I started going to concerts and I saw the Led Zeppelin
I got a guitar on a Christmas day
I dreamed that Jimmy Page would come to Santa Monica and teach me to play
Play!
Teach me to play!
Play!
Teach me to play!
Play!
Ay, Ay, hey, yeah

There isn't any place that I need to go
There isn't anything that I need to know
That I did not learn from the radio

[Male announcer's laugh]: huh-uh huh-uh huh-uh huh

Yeah when things get stupid
And I just don't know
Where to find my happy

I listen to the music
On the AM Radio (AM Radio)

You could hear the music
On the AM Radio (AM Radio)

You could hear the music
On the AM Radio (Am Radio, Am Radio)

I like pop (AM Radio, AM Radio)...I like soul
I like rock
But I never liked disco
(AM Radio, AM Radio)

I like pop (AM Radio, AM Radio)...I like soul
I like rock
But I never liked disco
(AM Radio, AM Radio)

We like pop (AM Radio, AM Radio)...We like soul
We like to rock
But we never liked disco
(AM Radio, AM Radio)

We like pop (AM Radio, AM Radio)...We like soul
We like to rock
But we never liked disco
(AM Radio, AM Radio)

We like pop (AM Radio, AM Radio)...We like soul
We like to rock
But we never liked disco...No!
(AM Radio, AM Radio)

No, I never liked disco (AM Radio)
No, I never liked disco (AM Radio)
No, I never liked disco (AM Radio)
...no I never liked (AM Radio) disco! (AM Radio)
Nooooo(AM Radio)ooooooo! (AM Radio)
(AM Radio, AM Radio)
Oohhhhh!
(Am Radio, AM Radio)

As a middle-aged git, I can identify with this song. The height of cool in the 70s was a portable tranny (transistor radio, kids) tuned into Radio Caroline or whatever other pirate station you could get reception of. The tranny was as much a must have accessory then as a MP3 player is these days.

Radio Caroline..........Those were the days. Use to listen to it when visiting my Grandparents in France...... As a matter of fact it is still around and will celebrate 45 years of broadcasting this coming easter. {#Clap}

Those little trannys had a very special smell I seem to recall!

Yes.  Or that could be an understatement.  Not sure which.

Fun for what it is, not every song has to be some deep, emotionally-involved, emo, get in touch-with feminine-side people!

Yeesh!

bounce wit' me, bounce wit' me

Exactly! Lighten up, y'all, this is just silly fun. And it's not like Everclear are complete lightweights - I've had "Detroit" in my iPod rotation for years and it still knocks me out.

I totally thought the same thing!! "TURN IT DOWN!" :)

Blech!

Sounds like the group, " Cake," except they seem to know how to play their instruments.

Sometimes I wonder if Bill puts on something like this just to have a laugh looking at the comments.

Yeah, I'd have to file this one under terrible... right alongside Sugar Ray and all other 'hits'

/used to be a fav band but are now just SELLOUTS!

A mess?!! It's a multi-layered work of musical genius.
This song friggin' ROCKS!

Hey, it's Sugar Ray!
Don't like it.
Complete crap. Oh, how sucko barfo.
cant we watch good times or chico and the man or something cool?
I went to school with this guy's second wife from fourth grade through high school. Her folks are potato farmers in Palmer, AK, and went to our church when I was growing up. Just before they got married, they came up for Christmas and came to church. It was very weird having the lead singer of Everclear sitting next to a potato farmer in a church in Alaska. After the service, all of the kids wanted to have their guitars and stuff signed. Not sure what he had to talk about with the inlaws over Christmas dinner. "How's farming?" "Great, how's spewing forth the devil's music?"
I keep trying to shut this down and listen to WLS AM but this set has been so good... I....can't.....leave!
Awesome. Great to hear some Everclear on RP! Any band responsible for the sheer awesomeness that is "Santa Monica" will always have a home in my collection. The fact that that same band also gave us a dozen other top-tier tracks is just gravy.

This song is based on I'll Take You There. I thought it was Mr. Big Stuff...
Definitely based on Mr. Big Stuff. Maybe 'based on' is giving Everclear a bit too much credit. It 'is' Mr. Big Stuff, even the bridge.
Awww, all these negative comments! I had forgotten about this song and when it came on I started smiling and dancing in my desk chair. Sure, it's cheeze, but isn't that the point? I mean, it's about AM radio! (my first car only had AM radio, my girlfriends and I would cruise to the Oldies all the time. awesome.)
I'm so embarrassed for Everclear when I hear this song. It's as corny as "We Built This City" by Starship.
are you freakin kidding me?!? I'm of the generation where Everclear was cool, but this is definately not cool and not RP. Boo.

The mighty MET!
Mindless and fun. Sometimes it is nice to just sit back, relax, and enjoy a happy song.
I get a kick out of when I play this and tell my kids how it used to be... "Really Dad?"

Okay I think I get the connection - the last song played was the Iguanas "9 Volt Heart" which mentions the Staples "I'll Take You There". This song is based on I'll Take You There. I get it. It's too bad this song is terrible.
Once upon a time, this tune and its associated video was one of the things that kept me watching VH1 ... was disappointed when Everclear got booted off of web radio....
Does nothing for me, I'm afraid.
I LOVE this song. Totally captures the 70s radio experience. Man, I ate, breathed and slept AM radio in the 70s.

I've heard this one a million times on local radio - and it sounds like all the rest of their songs... except he's not slamming on his dad. It would be nice to hear something I haven't heard on the radio so I could determine if its true that all of their songs sound the same.
mr. big-stuff! who do ya think you are?!
I can't help but hate these guys. The only good thing I can say about this song is that it doesn't sound like every other Everclear song...
I like the song...what a trip, I grew up listening to KHJ (Los Angeles) in the early 70's. A walk down memory lane.
Thanks Bill, I just LOVE this song! Hah, kids today, when I were a lad, we had to listen on AM Radio - so true... great song, excellent album.
This is oh so true!!!! Get down all those who grew up in the 70's!!! AM Radio, grew up on it!!!!
Yay. I recognized this from the beginning. Good way to change it up.
