I thought that you knew it all
Well, you've seen it ten times before
I thought that you had it down
With both your feet on the ground

I love slow, slow but deep
Feigned affections wash over me

Dream on, my dear
And renounce temporal obligations
Dream on, my dear
It's a sleep from which you may not awaken

You build me up then you knock me down
You play the fool while I play the clown
We keep time to the beat of an old slave drum
You raise my hopes then you raise the odds
You tell me that I dream too much
Now I'm serving time in disillusionment

I don't believe you any more
I don't believe you
I don't believe you any more
I don't believe you

I thought that I knew it all
I'd seen all the signs before
I thought that you were the one
In darkness my heart was won

You build me up then you knock me down
You play the fool while I play the clown
We keep time to the beat of an old slave drum
You raise my hopes then you raise the odds
You tell me that I dream too much
Now I'm serving time in a domestic graveyard

I don't believe you any more
I don't believe you

Never let it be said I was untrue
I never found a home inside of you
Never let it be said I was untrue
I gave you all my time, I gave you all my time

Fantastic tune and album overall. A classic DCD track. Glad this made it to RP, and was "re-introduced" recently.

Whoa?
Sounds so much like The Doors & Neil Diamond had a discussion of influences and atmosphere.
Great vibe.

You're right. It's smoother and more on key. Same pitch tho.
This song introduced me to DCD when it came out. Blew my mind and I've been a fan ever since.
I had opportunity to record with my ex-band in some hi-end rec.studio here in Slovenia,   control room had some crazy expensive speakers , absorbers/diffusors etc. The engineer was super friendly guy,  allowed me to play music while he was prepairing drums for recording. This song came to my mind beside ELP`s From the begining... i was blown away by quality of this song, all instruments were separeted in space, details i never heard before, his dark voice above all instrument, stereo on those oriental stick drums and that "musical silence"  I liked this song  long before but after listening in that studio i learned also to respect that technical production part wich is fenomenal here . This song is perfect in so many ways- I love RP
Breakup letter level: SMACK!

Great comparison!

"Hyacinth House" was a huge favorite of mine, as a secret 'breakup' song for my controlling, jealous and 'morally superior' girlfriend (SMC) way back when I was in my early 20s.  Boy did she hate The Doors and  loath The Lizardking, and all the "hippie shit" that came with Doors' music and culture that I was diggin'.

This Dead Can Dance tune is impressive in how good it sounds and I love the dark context of the lyrics' deep meaning; this one's a 9.

Sounds like my in-law's relationship.   She is not nice to her long-time husband, yet he remains devoted.
1993? Man I missed this somehow. I thought it was a more recent release.  Impressive!

Not tonight, dear. You're giving me a headache.
Groovey but farcical

Nothing like Mr Morrison
How many stereo or speaker upgrades has this song sold. 2 right here.
the Morrison comparisons are understandable, but in my opinion Brendan Perry has a much better (and smoother) voice.

Or maybe Morrison is the one dancing?

The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove:

Episode from Secret Agent from Britain:

After a driving accident, Drake finds he has a £500 gambling debt at a club he has no knowledge of, yet the staff seem to know him, and the club's manager, Mr. Alexander knows all about Drake's career with M9, and plans to blackmail him.

I have not been able to decode this song's lyrics either. But the title is an exact match for a particularly hallucinogenic episode of the British spy series Danger Man, seen on ITV in the 1960's.

The lame "whip" sound that came programmed on my keyboard lol in the 80's

When I first heard this playing on RP I thought it must be a Jim Morrison / Doors song that I somehow never heard before.  Strange since I have all the Doors albums that I have listened to each of them dozens of times. I was so surprised when I jumped on RP to see it was Dead Can Dance. I somehow missed this group in my music listening history. I will definately seek out their music to hear more of their catalog.

I agree; this singer's got a deep voice and is reciting the lyrics the way Morrison often did, but he doesn't really sound like Morrison much more than he sounds like Neil Diamond.
Nice

I think a lot of their catalog would fit that description. And that's a good thing. {#Music}
Never heard this before but it sounds eerily like "I've Seen it All" by Bjork and Thom Yorke from the Dancer in the Dark Soundtrack, Selmasongs.
Fantastique {#Bounce}
DCD were such a big part of my favourite music in the 90's. To think that such music existed is a joy. I must dig out some of their albums soon... RP is a memory jogger.

I have to say, I don't hear the resemblance to JM either. I hope that more of their albums like Aion will be been included at some point; it specifically has a very medieval feel to it, imo, and the rest of them have a strong world music influence. If you haven't, find one of their performances on YT in which Lisa Gerard plays the Chinese dulcimer- it is interesting, to say the least. This is Saltarello, from Aion:

I think it's more the delivery and overall feel of the song. It's got hints of The End and When the Music's Over.

Everybody in my alien space craft loves this song...  we be slow dancing...
One of the best DCD songs bringing together a lot of their influences and styles without going off too much in one direction. Also Brendan giving his best here. Straight 10
Why do I love this so much?......maybe the Jim Morrison-like voice.
Is this some Morrisonized beatnik vibe?

And Nick Cave--in this particular song.
A voice knows nothing about the singer. I think Morrison's voice was a separate entity. I do like this voice and this song.

Maybe if Morrison had learned how to sing.  Brendan Perry's voice is silk.

As I Jim Morrison fan I’ve always liked the sound of his voice but I find the whiplash sound affect that’s added to the beat irritating after the first few seconds.

The ubiquitous Mr. Drum Machine... yuck. I like a lot of DCD, but not this one, not at all.
first time  i have heard this song, quite nice , i'll give it another whirl on napster soon{#Motor}

My VERY first thought.  If they had more techno instruments back then the music could sound like this.  Great voice.
Yes. This makes my afternoon.
Wow!  I haven't heard this in a long time... shame on me as I have the album.  Or maybe I just listen too much to RP.  Outstanding!  I love the layers of sound, variety of instruments... just love it!
Freaking awesome tune !!  wow, it just takes you places   :-)
this is a slo dancing cobra of a tune, and I'm enthralled

I really liked the music, didn't care much for the singing. 6.
Channeling Jim Morrison, maybe?
This song really comes to life during the ending minutes and then dies beautifully
Obscure music with taste, unlike Björk
Thought this was VAST(who also sounds like Morrison)!
For my dearest friend Jimmy - RIP
Hot and SEXY!
Mr. Lovegroove is right!
I recognised this from the first note with its distinctive pitch and timbre. This has been one of my fave DCD albums for a couple of decades. What I loved about them, and indeed about RP, was their stylistic eclecticism and the wide variety of instruments, and of course Lisa Gerrard's wideranging voice. Brendan Perry also has a fine voice, but it's no accident that Gerrard has had a good solo career after DCD whereas Perry's works have languished. It's good that they're back together again, though.

I never did figure out who Mr Lovegrove was, and why he was so ubiquitous...
Great hearing this last night (I'm in Europe)...more Dead Can Dance, please!
Incredible musicians and music - a desert island band for sure!  Could use more DCD on RP...
TYPE O NEGATIVE!!!
DANZIG!
SINATRA!
Are we surprised she dumped his faux-Jim Morrison ass?  Not for a second.
I'll see them live at this Saturday... Expecting the great gig!
I feel myself slipping around in time and space whenever I hear this track. His voice is like warm caramel. Ahhhhh.....
