Cuando you and me
We were just chiquillos
We would always run
Through the tall nopal
We would often say
Say to each other
There could be no fin
Siempre los dos

Luz de mi vida
Eres la voz de mi son
You are forever
Light of my corazon

It was en la manana
In our rinconcito
Was the time you played me
Sang me your cancion
Pues when I heard your voice
Y tu melodia
You so touched my heart
And so moved my soul

Luz de mi vida
Eres la voz de mi son
You are forever
Light of my corazon

I remember everything as you
And in all the things that I do
And en the calle y en el cuartel
Me recuerdo de tu querer

Luz de mi vida
Eres la voz de mi son

I remember everything as you
And in all the things that I do
And en the calle y en el cuartel
Me recuerdo de tu querer

Seen a couple comments about this, and I don't get it.

You guys know it's pretty common for bilingual folks to talk like this, right?

Cajuns are notorious for skipping back and forth, often mid-sentence, I know from personal experience.

Backstory aside, this is, I don't know, bad? The mixing of Spanish and English seems completely unnecessary.

I love that mix.

What a horrible story!  It certainly makes the song more poignant to know this.  According to Wikipedia however, her body was found in 2000.

thanks for the correction; I guess I didn't look back at the news since it happened. I see he was convicted, then led police to the site.

Cesar Rosas continues to be the "roots conscience" of Los Lobos, while David Hidalgo is more the theologian/philosopher. Two very different songwriters working together to make every Los Lobos album a great adventure.

Amen.

Sorry Bill, not a good segue after Duke Ellington's Stormy Weather.

But a terrific segue to Calexico's "Roka."

Cesar is entitled. This song probably wasn't meant to be a "hit" when it was written. Cesar's wife was killed a few years ago. Her brother was convicted of the murder in 2000 (or so) even though her body has never been found. This song, "Light of my life", is one of those personal messages that just happened to get put on an album.

De acuerdo.

Song always reminds me of Cheryl, who I will always miss.
Great tune from the heart, thanks RP!
Well said. Bump.

I grew up speaking Spanglish in my house, but some of the sentences here seem a little contrived. Normally what we do is intersperse sentences in the two languages, not random words, unless there is ONE word which conveys the message much better and this usually comes at the end, like "esto tiene mucho FEELING". Still love Los Lobos though.

A great band but this one sucks, no offense.
I {#Heartkiss} LL

The mixture of English/Spanish is a bit irritating to me. (and I speak both languages)

I wish I'd said this. Nicely done.

Really below-average LL. This sounds like a bad Ricki Martin record (and if it actually was, everybody would probably give it a \"3\")
I don\'t think i like this song that much, but i pay attention to it every time it comes on. I think it\'s a combination of the Spanglish -- a language that always captures my attention -- and the use of baritone sax. If only it weren\'t so damned sappy!
I love this band. They are GREAT live, a must see.
MAN! I\'ve got to get this cd!
Ah, I love these guys. *desk dancing*
