Filibust and hesitate
You say I procrastinate
And that my heart beat's second rate
To one you'll recognize

I know that you are drawn to it
So all I am is counterfeit
It pulls you so you must submit
Like ant to honeydew

What I once took as remedies
Are only chalk hypotheses
'Tis the season for a breeze
To blow them all away

To add insult to injury
The sum you get means I agree
So you can call that empathy
And find someone else to blame

You say it's truth and nothing but
Baby, I sympathize

All that that implies are lies
Surprise, surprise
All that that implies are lies
Surprise, surprise
They're lies, surprise, surprise

Take this heart and claim a stake
Shove it through so I can't wake
The cock will crow, the day will break
But I won't be around

And it may be the kindest cut
Word comes in edgewise

All that that implies are lies
Surprise, surprise
All that that implies are lies
Surprise, surprise
They're lies, surprise, surprise

I think this deserves The Decemberists "Meet me on my vast veranda My sweet, untouched Miranda" cheesy lyrics award.

nah, he's soooo much better than the decemberists.
try some of his stuff with his wife aimee mann.
Do I hear bagpipes?  Why does he sing through his nose?  I am not getting something.

Kind of a chauvinistic view.

Yes, let's not trash/bash each other. I thought RP listeners would be more enlightened than, say, New Country lovers... please tell me I'm right!

It always hurts to hear a favorite artist of mine trashed by others. What is this trashing / "I piss on what you like" impulse? Is it the anonymity of the Web? If you can't say something kind and excited why indulge in bashing? I've enjoyed countless hours of Penn's work. You enjoy what you enjoy. Let it Be.
That's what makes this so much fun to read. A favortie to one person may not be a favorite to another and sometimes it is nice to hear why. I think calling it "bashing" is a bit extreme. Enjoy what you like ... others can't change that.

Boy do I dislike this. Michael Penn is the living embodiment of all that is bad with "progressive-alternative" music. The whining lyrics, the overdubbed back beat, the "sensitive guy" stuff. I really could do without him and his ilk.
Yup, agreed...

This guy is proof that talent runs in the family. His brother Sean is an excellent actor. I think his lyrics are direct and his music is unique and beautiful.
Hear, hear! I like Michael Penn's voice, it's distinctive in the same way as Neil Finn's.

Speed this song up by 50% and get someone who can sing more than one note and you might have something I'd be proud to rate 6.
No doubt the artists of the world, starting with Mr. Penn, are rushing to re-make this tune to your liking. Likeable tune.
This poor song goes wrong in so many ways: the weenie singing, the high school marching band backdrop, the lyrics stuffed with trite phrases, to name a few...

Hmm, first there was The The now we have 'All That That Implies' huh, music is funny that way...

I can't stand this tune. It sounds so "overplayed commercial radio." Easily forgotten.

his voice is like Michael Stipe, Matthews Sweet, and Josh Joplin rolled into one...hah
Great, direct "into your face" sound. Those "march" pieces, keep it really playful.
I like most of what Michael Penn has to offer, and hadn\'t heard anything off of this album yet. Not his best, but still good to hear. Still trying to find out where I can get a copy of the version of \"No Myth\" that ya\'ll played earlier this week, or late last week.
