Fame is like a piece of chewing gum
Fruity taste and bitter sweet
Making money is a waste of money, honey
Making a living don't make a life

Don't need a ride in a jazzed up pumpkin
No feather boa for the ball
A box of paint could be salvation
I'll paint the sun coming up

Fix my hair for an instant photo
Two for me and two for you
Fix my sights on a big tomorrow
When I get out of the rat race

Freedom is sticking to the point now
Indecision has a price
Tune up my two seater bicycle

Tune out conveyer belt advice

Fix my hair for an instant photo
Two for me and two for you
Fix my sights on a big tomorrow
When I get out of the rat race

Cotton candy brainwash
Sell ya 'til you're sick
Not gonna listen to it anymore
I'm gonna smile while I'm happy

Fix my hair for an instant photo
Two for me and two for you
Fix my sights on a big tomorrow
When I get out of the rat race

So talented. Of all my 12,000 songs on my iTunes, this relatively unknown one is played the most, meaning I've put it on more playlists than any other. Really a fine little song. Well crafted.
first time hearing this, and her, and I'm intrigued.  I love the message and started to dig the beat, sticking a 7 on it with a +1 likely eventually.

Only if that applies to the boxes of duplex silicone sweatercows on the shelf in my friend's surgery. You are aware of the reports of unusual circumstances involving Ms. Curtis' birth?
Don't bother, I'm headed down to the seawall to get a switch and take my beating.

Even if it was a ripoff i like the tunes.
I always thought this was a Morcheeba song!  To me it totally sounds like something off of "Big Calm" — most similar to track 2 maybe?

Anyway, that's a good thing - I love Morcheeba - will have to check out more from Louise now.

dancing and smiling, in this rat race too

Who is her mother?
Carole King. Her father is Gerry Goffin. Great songwriting team of the 60s. Went to work every day in the Brill Building in Manhattan to write songs.
The guitar riff is a pure Tom Waits ripoff from Mule Variations, I think.

Who is her mother?
Scratchy Americana musical instrumentation is Tom Waitish.

sure he had?
In the RP context, this is very good. As a cd by itself, hmmm... not sure why I bought it. I need to hear it between Sorten Muld and Michelle Shocked's When I Grow Up... which is also a wonderful song that I am grateful someone uploaded to RP.
beck had a sex change?

Check out her other photos on AMG, much softer, as is her voice. You're right though, she has a strong jaw and that angle makes her look masculine.
Yeah. I see that. Howard Stern on the Miss America cover kinda pose. I wonder who took the shot--ideally you try to do something flattering.

Never heard of her before...I'm hooked! Is the rest of her stuff this good?

I actually payed full price on iTunes. Still worth it.
Agreed. I'd like to hear more from our pal Louise.
Nice bluesy sound--unique.
I liked the little (sounds like Mandolin?) hook at first, but after awhile that dissonant chord started grating at my nerves. Dissonance...use it wisely kids!

I know this is completely out of left field, but that cover photo disturbs me. She looks like a man in drag.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
First time I've heard it. I like the little instrumental hooks in it. I need to listen to her voice a little more. Play it again please.

Good song but it's making it hard for me to stay awake at work.

I dig on the guitar too... causes a chain reaction starting at the hips.

You couldn't have listened to the track "Sometimes a Circle," then. A great album.

erudite critique to follow: hey, I like it! groovy and sexy - that can frequently be enough for me.
Man..... Walk Like An Egyptian 2005!
HOT!

This is one of those tracks that makes you wonder how the rest of the album is. It could go either way with her. I agree, more famous Louises!

I like this one, but it's sure hard to find. Is the rest of the CD good enough to buy?
Huh. I'm not sure how I feel about this, either. Piqued my interest. Need more listens.

I don't understand how Louise Goffen can be Carol King's daughter. Shouldn't her name be Louise King? I think she's great. There aren't enough famous Louises out there. Bill forgot to post this song originally. Skipped right over it. So I wrote him and in about five minutes be wrote back apologizing, so I felt compelled to comment. Must be fate.
What about Jamie Lee Curtis - daughter of Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. I thought it was normal for a child to take the name of their father. as for your comment on "There aren't enough famous Louises out there"... I didn't know that there was such a demand for them.
Nice tune

I\'m so glad I developed my opinion (8) on this one before I read the posts. I wounder if the liniage issue would have colored my judgement.
Interesting. I like it.. Kind of reminds me of Poe.
Really great song, but the rest of the album is quite boring.

I like this song. I really really do! but it is getting overplayed. I hear it at least once a day, sometimes twice. What happened to the no repeating songs within 5 days?
i really dig the 'lazy' theme riff. Makes me want to smile on the porch with my feet on the railing.
yummy! :D
I really like this quirky little song!
this is the first i\'ve heard of Louise....I had no idea she was Carol King\'s daughter....with a mom like that it\'s no wonder this song is outstanding!
Louise is Carole King\'s daughter.
Wow, that is a cool song -- the wonky guitar and funky beat then that smooth voice over top. Who is her mother that folks are referring to below? Anyway, keep it coming!
Wow... very impressive... I recognized the name at once, with such prestigious peerage how can she go wrong... a very interesting and promsing start. Great melody, great lyrics. Cheers Jacques Radio Paradise: What Radio Could Have Been NOTE (27MAY02): After a bit of research I have discovered that this isn't the "start" for Louise Goffin, she's been putting out music since the early 1980's... all of her efforts have been well received but this one, according to critics is the album everyone's been expecting her to make for nearly 20 years... and here I thought she was Carole King's young daughter, a fledgling new recording act just getting her feet wet... NOT. Still, I love this song and may look into buying the CD.
She\'s definitely packin\' some of her mommy\'s talent for lyrics. She\'s going to be making a big name for herself soon, at this rate.
I gave this an eight.. not because its so all consumingly awesome.. but the lyrics are pretty interesting.. the music... wow.. it reminds me of some of... Soul Coughing.. I want to hear more of this artists' stuff!!
