I'm always amazed by the number of people who hate/berate the music that is played here.

I think there is a pretty high standard for the music selections on RP.

I used to hate the Cowboy Junkies, Chris Isaak, ELO, Janis Joplin and countless other bands. After continuing to listen to RP, I have come to like all the groups I have mentioned above.

There are obviously a lot of people here that like the music you hate or it would not be being played. And first impressions of music and musicians can change over time.

If that doesn't work, just use PSD button.

one of the worst singer I know, and the music is less than simple. Worst song they could play he wrote when his daughter was born (what was her name and title of the song). My introduction to Chris Rea was God's Great Banana Skin. Loved that album, especially the title cut. My next album was Auberge. Again, loved the title cut.

If you like Chris Rea, get the concert album Road to Hell & Back (two cds). I was at the Paris concert from the tour from which this selection came - he was great live and this selection is fabulous. And, this was his last tour (due to medical issues).

Thanks. Your post had me hunting for the meaning of this song, and I came across this interview with Chris Rea in which he said:

"Well, you don't have to be French to say the title, because the title is an Englishism, anyway. 'Auberge' literally now in France means a motel, it's pretty down-mark, not particularly up-mark, in France it's not particularly romantic. For French people an 'Auberge' is somewhere where they had to stop off because they didn't make it home in time, so they don't particularly feel great about 'Auberges'. But for the English this is romanticism attracted with the word, and the translation of it meaning temporary resting place, and that's exactly what this album was for me after 'The road to hell'"

Chris Rea is a talented, prolific songwriter/vocalist/guitar player.

I bought his debut album in 1978 (Whatever Happened To Benny Santini) and almost every one since.

Unapologetic about loving this song.  Chris Rea has always been a sort of "out-of-hearing, out-of-mind" kind of artist for me, but every time I hear one of his songs, I do the forehead-fwap and think, "WHY don't I have more of his music?!"  Note to self:  GET more of his music, dummy! {#Lol}

Road to Hell (the full version on the CD) starts with a lot of silence. You have to turn up the volume quite a lot to hear what's going on in the song's intro. By the time the song realy gets going I never regret I turned it up anyway :) Auberge starts much sooner with the song, and is almost as pleasing to my ears. A 9

RP is the only place except my stereo system where I can hear Chris Rea! Keep it up RP. Though it may not be his best I agree, it is still better than not hearing anything at all from him. One of his best (in my opinion :D ) is \"Deltics\" from the album of the same name.
