The tide is high but I'm holding on
I'm gonna be your number one
I'm not the kind of girl who gives up just like that
Oh, no

It's not the things you do that tease and wound me bad
But it's the way you do the things you do to me

I'm not the kind of girl who gives up just like that
Oh, no

The tide is high but I'm holding on
I'm gonna be your number one
Number one, number one

Every girl wants you to be her man
But I'll wait my dear 'til it's my turn

I'm not the kind of girl who gives up just like that
Oh, no

The tide is high but I'm holding on
I'm gonna be your number one

But I'll wait my dear 'til it's my turn

I normally dig Blondie….I do!

but GACK!! This tune is annoying on numerous levels. We like what we like, of course.
Blonde rocks it MOST of the time….but this is a miss, imo

Really loving the nostalgia streak on these...

You'd think they'd mix it up a bit but 9 months on we've just had the same streak
Is Debbie Harry more or a nostalgia thing?  Like from the generation who had their first impure thoughts from the poster of her in their bedroom?
Is this the New RP?

Excellent!!
Currently grooving on my chair!
I would never have guessed it was Blondie but finding out made the song even better!
Written and first recorded by Jamaican vocal trio, the Paragons, in 1967, ‘The Tide Is High’ gained international attention 13 years later, when a cover version by the American band Blondie topped the US and UK pop charts.

Paragons - The Tide is High
The group was way head of the curve, just look at the social distancing on the album cover.  Except for the lack of masks, very Covid 19 in 2020.

To me Blondie can't do no wrong.

I'm old, I'm at work but my new girlfriend just spent the night. Debbie Harry affirms it all: life is at times soooo very good.
I like it. Calms me down which I can use right now.

Love to hear something from The Hunter album.
Now that was some experimental stuff.

love this tune!
I like a lot of Blondie stuff,  but this is not of of my Favs. Maybe it got played on the radio too much at the time.

Surprised to see all the hate here. What can I say, I really like this song. {#Laughing}

Same here. When I was in college we used to have a dance party in the dorm hallway to this song.

I lost my Mum this year and I miss her terribly, so good on ya, mate.

Even Bill admitted this was "not the band's finest musical moment."  You're not always going to get diamonds here.
One of my fav aerobic songs! Play it more.{#Hearteyes}
jeeezzzz.....  ya'll need to take a pill or some'n !

Like it or not, Blondie is a classic, and that's that.

Haters, remember that there's always the PSD button. Click it and move on.

This song needs to be relegated to the dung heap of abysmally trite & unimaginative HFCS drek. Seriously. Wth is this even in the rotation? Bruno Mars? Brandi Carlisle? Michael Tomkins? Eminem? This song just flat out <boom-chick boom-chick> sucks, esp. when compared to the list of artists who write excellent music but never get RP exposure.

WOW. I just realized how upset I’m getting. I need to do some yoga or something.

I‘ll say this much for it:
’I want it to be a
nummmm-ber 1’

...and so it is. {#Ask}
Wow....this takes me all the way back to 1996, when my then girlfriend made me play this song a lot in my recently installed bad ass car stereo.  I'm not sure if I've heard it since then, and boy my **memories** of those days flooded right into my mind.  Oh to be 19 again!  Song gets a 6, +2 for those young-love memories.  PEACE and Long Live RP!!

It seemed like the band had somehow became uncool after this and "Rapture" hit big, and the 1982 album "The Hunter" was their first real failure, both critically and commercially.  Blondie would subsequently go on hiatus in early '83 (partially due to an illness to Chris Stein) .

They wouldn't show up again for 16 YEARS!

I must like this album at some level.  I found that I have three copies on vinyl for some unknown reason ...  {#Think}

I try to keep my vinyl in order... but when you just want to listen to something quickly whatever was on the turntable gets put into the "to be filed" bin.  Eventually, the "to be filed" bin grows to be several hundred records.  Then I actually file them and find duplicates, but it's always the oddball records from my favorite artists, not the well known records.  I must have three or four copies of "Northern Lights" by The Band and "Transverse City" by Warren Zevon, but only one sad, dog-eared copy of "Music From Big Pink" or "Excitable Boy".
Fun tune presented by an Ultra Vixen  : )

And HAPPY NEW YEAR 2005 TO YOU, TOO!

I think the crowd here on RP needs to lighten up sometimes. Sure Blondie had better songs, but this is a fun one. Why deny yourself the entertainment of this song's arrangement and energy just because it was popular? I was glad to see this in the playlist today; Bill plays plenty of terrific politically correct music, so I welcome some terrific music for the ClearChannel masses.
Ditto

A funny comment would have been: Yes, you are going to be my #1! Think about it.. There we go.
One of the few songs that actually make me physically ill. Excuse me Bill, while I turn you off for the next three minutes...
I can't beleive I'm hearing this BS on RP. Maybe Bill is starting to miss corporate radio.
Tiresome.
Fun!
Vapid pop dreck. Barf.
This song reminds me of my Mom, who is great...but has terrible taste in music.
Right on Darlington & ranbarton. Sometimes the masses have decent taste. Besides, this one payed a lot of bills, and that's a good thing for ailing musicians.
What the hell are you trying to do to me, Bill? I'm at work for God's sake.

Ugh, I hate this song.
That transition from Götz Alsmann was awesome. And look at the play history - Vince Guaraldi to Götz Alsmann to Blondie. Now that's eclectic.
oh please leave this in the 80's
what fun!
I like some of Blondie's stuff quite a bit, but I always hated this song. Always, since it first came out right up to this day. Bleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Agree completely. Sometimes there's the faint whiff of elitism in the air and honestly, that makes me sick more than "popular" music. Come on! I dare you to deny that your shoulders didn't shimmy on the opening bars, even just a little.

This is a great song - just dance, don't analyze too much!
A fun, fun song...that brings back lots of great memories. Thanks!

nice enuf melody, but this marked blondie's total and complete crossover to mainstream radio
Bill remembers when he was young :) Good track and cool, ideal in summertime!!
Debbie Harry is a Goddess but many tracks much better than the faux-caribbean hit. \"Rip Her To Shreds\" would be delightful.
A hideous entity calling themselves \"Atomic Kitten\" have released a version of this here in the UK, it was number one for two weeks recently. Thank you Mr Mclusky of OMD fame for selling your soul, and contributing to the \"manufactured\" polution of our once great popular music scene. :(
