Flying down to Atlanta a couple of weeks ago, I had the great fortune to be seated next to Andre Reyes, one of the two co-founders of the Kings, and surrounded by the rest of the band. Between his bad English and my bad French, we managed an engaging conversation. I don't think there was a moment on the flight that someone wasn't singing. As we landed at Hartfield, they were whistling "La Marseillaise." Too funny.

Love the Gipsy Kings as long as they don't sing! Unfortunately, it seems every one of their CDs features only so many instrumentals like this. If you like this, may I recommend Ottmar Liebert? He knows better than to try to sing, unlike Jesse Cook who also falls into the Gipsy Kings camp (shut up, Jesse).

Thanks for this clarification. I don't care if someone is not playing 'pure anything.' I don't care if someone's music is 'derivative' (a common insult in this forum). As long as someone makes good quality music, that's all I care about.

I saw these guys live one time. Great show. I remember there were about 50 acoustic guitars and an equal amount of leather pants on stage.

Probably GKs Tonino Baliardo playing lead here. Their sound could be called affected coz it's not strictly Flamenco or gypsy but Rumba Catalana.

I used to think their would-be flamenco sound would be despised from spanish people. Until I heard them, in the only café of a small village lost in the middle of Andalucia... They enjoy them there, actually. Surely their sound is not gipsian (?), but, undoubtedly sincerely, if not genuinly, spanish. Personnaly, I love them. To be listened to while going on holidays to the seaside in Provence. :)

From my perspective, every time I hear the Gipsy Kings, it sounds like the same song! I admit that I may, in fact, be hearing the same song every time, since I don\'t pay that much attention. However, it\'s almost a joke at this point. They all sound the same! Am I cursed to hear the same Gipsy Kings song over and over and over or are their songs so similar to each other?

I find it hard to believe that anyone would rate this song as a 1. You apparently have no musical ability, musical ear, nor musical taste at all. This is incredible guitar playing whether you like this type of music or not.
