Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
In the land that I heard of once, once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops that's where you'll find me

(instrumental)

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops that's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true
If happy little blue birds fly above the rainbow
Why, oh why, can't I

OK. Where to start? I was very happy to hear this song start to play. I knew it was probably this late great Eva Cassidy I\'ve been hearing raves about, and with the first few notes I was bowled over by the quality of her voice. Then she took a beautiful, classic song, and completely ignored the melody. How could she do that? Why would she do that? I feel ill. I agree with the person below who said that she did it because she could, because there is no musical or emotional reason to destroy this song as completely as she has. What makes me deeply angry is that, with her voice, it could have been so beautiful. I suppose she was just too young and inexperienced to realize what she was doing.
I think this fits in fine with the RP selections ... it really is a timeless song and this is a pretty good rendition... lots of stuff on this station might not be classified strictly as rock, but so what?
i like the metallica live version better.... just kiddin, although this song makes me sorta weepy. in a good way.
this is killing me!
Man, that is killing me. Please lose that one.
This tune epitomizes the general tilt of RP toward the softer side. Not that we need to rock out constantly, but this station suffers from not livening things up enough.

I've read a lot of bizarre statements on radioparadise over time... but that comment totally wins the award for Grand Bull Moose Dumbest Comment Ever. You may or may not like this version of the song, which is fine, but to simply lump this--or any of the work that Eva Cassidy has done--as "change the style of the song just because you can pop" shows a vast misunderstanding of music. I'm not saying there aren't lots of misguided/badly done covers out there, but Eva Cassidy was a musician, first rate, and this is not a "just for the helluvit" recording. You would do well to go listen to much more of Eva's catalogue. With that all said, I think there are better Eva songs out there, esp. off the "Live from Blues Alley" album; --d
Wish Eva had lived to see her fame come to fruitian. An great voice!
variety is one thing, and preferences are subjective, but surely there a certain standards of originality, quality of interpretation and instrumentation that need to applied to each song added to the playlist ? This song just doesn\'t meet the standards set by the majority of the rest of the playlist (IMHO of course)
I love alot of styles of music ... but not THIS song ... ... Judy Garland may have been cute and her version would be considered a classic ... but this 'change the style of the song ... just because you can' form of 'pop' crap is nothing but a meaningless dilution of an old classic !*!*!* Plus, I'm not so sure Judy's version would belong on RP either ... ...
Thanks, I really enjoyed this. The eclectic selection is what makes me love this station.
Okay, I guess I'm either more sentimental or just older than these two dudes. I think this is a really sweet rendering--and this from one who never much liked Judy Garland's. Thanks for the variety, Bill.

This recording inspired me to buy the whole Eva Cassidy catalogue - far too small and, sadly, never to grow larger. I wish I\'d had the chance to experience her live in concert. But alas, she was gone before I ever heard her sing...
I do like Eva Cassidy. Play \"Fields of Gold\" she has a wonderful voice.
Ok, but I\'d rather hear either Judy Garland\'s version or Tori Amos\' take from the Hey Jupiter EP. Of course if you have a good boot of it from Tori, then go with that.
Yes she has a beautiful voice. Yes it\'s a nice song. Why does the combination of the two remind me of slow, painful torture?
Wow, incredible vocals. Better than the original. Very sweet voice.
This reminds me... I need to get my teeth cleaned. Yawn.
Us in the Washington, DC area have had the fortune to experience Eva\'s wonderful voice and interpretation for many years. It is great to have the rest of the world hear and love this music. Art is immortality and Eva created some of the most touching during her brief presence. Thanks for playing this song.
WOW!!!! Takes my breath away. I always liked the song and have a special place in my heart reserved for Judy Garland and never thought anything could top her in Wizard of Oz. This takes it to a whole different level. Awesome. I think I need to hear this one a LOT more!!!
While a lovely voice, I\'d much rather hear Judi Garland sing this song.
