I'm floating down a river
Oars freed from their holes long ago
Lying face up on the floor of my vessel
I marvel at the stars and feel my heart overflow

Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river

Two weeks without my lover
I'm in this boat alone
Floating down a river named emotion
Will I make it back to shore or drift into the unknown?

Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river

I'm building an antenna
Transmissions will be sent when I am through
Maybe we could meet again further down the river
And share what we both discovered then revel in the view

Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river

I'm floating down a river
I'm floating down a river
I'm floating down a river
I'm floating down a river

I'm floating down a river
I'm floating down a river
I'm floating down a river
I'm floating down a river

Listening to Incubus more often would be nice.
driving eighty in america's worst traffic with my knees isn't so bad with jams like these
I have never heard Incubus on RP before until today. If BillG only curated one of their songs this would probably be the best one.

Well said!  This is a great album.  Makes you feel satisfied after listening.

The frogs are terribly relaxing for me -- they're familiar, since I grew up in the middle of nowhere -- but Bill, there's a lot more frog croaking than you allow us to hear ...

Mama don't allow no frog croaking 'round here!

Pentatonic scales have been developed and used all over the world since ancient times.

Right product, wrong brand name.
Energizer uses the pink bunny that supposedly just keeps on going.

Sometimes this song hits a good button for me and other times a not so good button.  Giving it a 6 rating.
Wow, never heard Incubus on RP.
Love this!
And there is so much more great music from these guys ...

These are some amazing sound waves; they tend to harmonize the dynamic body-environment system from which mind and life itself emerges. Incubus's work is uneven; this is the jewel in the lotus.
As much as I love the distinctive riff with whatever stringed instrument that is, I slowly begin to hate it toward the end.
"...'Aqueous Transmission' employs the use of Chinese instruments such as the pipa and is accompanied by a Japanese orchestra. The pipa used on the recording was given to Mike Einziger from Steve Vai, who also helped him develop the main riff to 'Echo.' 'Aqueous Transmission' is 7 minutes and 46 seconds long, with the last minute consisting of frogs croaking outside the studio in Malibu. Boyd jokingly said that the purpose of the song was to make 'the listener pee in his/her pants' from relaxation."

{#Roflol}

Well, I didn't pee in my pants, but I am relaxed. {#Meditate}
About 3 minutes toooooo loooong.

I used to listen to this song, which was the perfect mixture of both Western and Eastern world, to go along my travels.
I remember one very specific moment, in a bus, into the northern mountains of the province, in the Dong and Miao area, after twelve hours on the very bad roads at the time, sharing this music with some other travelers. I was the only foreigner in the bus. And for some of them, the very first they saw.
They laughed and loved the music, even though the CD was always jumping from a track to the other.

 Good story.

I like the frogs at the end {#Biggrin}

did this band play at Lilith Fair?{#Biggrin}
Not grabbing me, this one.  Odd vocal affectations and repetitive stuff could annoy badly on further listening, too.  Sorry.  PSD for me.
Would be better without the vocal.

Ha Ha - excellent suggestion.  Mine just finished brewing.  I do think I shall have some green tea with Incubus and their Aqueous Transmission.  Just the perfect end to a working day on a Friday before a long weekend.....Ahhh the music....(kicks legs up onto table)

lovely but monotonous. make it stop
Been listening to this for years but never rated it. For some reason it drove a spike into my skull today, but I always used to enjoy it okay. Would be a 7 but let's go with 6 because of the spike thing.
Someone complained a few songs about about the violins in a loop in a song from the Verve, I have exactly the same feeling now listening to those chinese cords. It's the only thing I can hear in that song, and it's never ending.... ANNOYING !
Ends with Bill and the Malibu Frogs. Charming!
This would be great for a Duracel commercial...
It's going, and going, and going...
Hey Bill, along these lines howzabout some Ryuichi Sakamoto, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence (original film soundtrack version)  PLEASE
after a series of weird songs, I am taking a rare RP break. I listen thru a Sonos system, and there is no way to PSD...which I would have spent the morning doing
there are sections of this thing that would be perfectly fine to eat cheap sushi to.
this is straight up awful.  took my headphones off for 5 minutes, put them back on and it's STILL playing?  oy  {#Cowboy}

If wikipedia is to be believed, they didn't hire a session player, it's a "pipa" rather than a shamisen, and it was played by a band member. But I have to agree with your general point..!

I think I like the Japanese elements better than the vocals...

+1.  I was going to give it acceptable, but as  @unclehud says, the frog sounds are just over-the-top, dropping to 3=ho-hum.  It's vaguely in the vein of Deep Forest, but it doesn't hang together, probably because the instruments and sounds sound too "jammed in" and it feels contrived to me.  This track predates Deep Forest by a year, for what that's worth.
We got it.  You hired a session shamisen player so you can sound "worldly".  It didn't work.
PSD! oh where is PSD...QUICK!{#Crashcomp}
from looking at the comments, one either loves this or cannot wait for it to end. That little Asian ditty constantly in the background quickly becomes an itch I can't scratch...hoping it goes away quickly and forever
sounds almost like a bollywood soundtrack but incubus. didn't like it a bit.

This is pretentious and boring in my opinion. That 'aaaeaaa' thing he keeps doing is very irritating. He must have way too many indulgent people in his life to have ended up in a studio.
The "Vaguely Japanese" riff was OK fora while, but got waaaaaaaaay boring long before the cut was finished.  Definitely marginal.

This song reminds me of descending through the clouds to Changsha airport.  The country below was veiled in mist and clouds and quite mysterious looking.  This song suits the feeling perfectly.

Not heard this one for ages. For some reason I find it hugely relaxing.

Peaceful....very different.  First time I've heard this.  I like it very

much!

I sparked this song out of a 4 year hiatus last year. Now it's being played quite regularly. Awesome.
this is groovy..
If only it had ended 2 minutes earlier . . . . Wait, it's not over yet. {#Yell}
I don't recall hearing this before,   very cool,  I like it!

Just got too repetitive and old at the end there...but not bad, just grew tired of hearing it.

This song was always one of my favorites from this album.  I found a lot of it to not hold up over the years, and it wasn't helped by incessant overplay by every local radio station I could get when this came out.

Plus, I had a crazy ex that was OBSESSED with some of the songs off this album but didn't really care that much for this one.  It's unfortunate, but this is one of the few songs I can listen too from this album without having really bad flashbacks.

(She taught me to never date another Hispanic bi chick from the Bronx ever again.  No offense to any Hispanic bi chicks who happen to be from the Bronx... but she ended up with some SERIOUS problems and tried to sabotage my relationship with my current wife before she was my wife.)

{#Yes}...and repetitive too.  I know how much the critics here like to use that particular adjective.  Good tune.

I can imagin waking up with this song.... nice ;)
They have BIG SUR on the cover of their album! {#Good-vibes} Oh how I miss living right down the coast from that place.
Actually because of their mass appeal and poppiness, I think this band is a bit underrated. They have consistently put out quality material for well over a decade now. Their latest is suprisingly good as well.
Awesome album. Impossible that it is already 10 years old. (Damn, how does time do that?!  {#Ask}  )

More peepers!
I liked this at first, but yer man's singing becomes increasingly, and presumably deliberately, out of tune as the song goes on and gets on my tits. This would be lovely without his discordant warbling, but with it a mute becomes inevitable.

Thank you for playing that song!  It is always in my playlists!!  I love it!!
one of my 20-something niece's favorite bands...i like them too!
Very underrated Incubus song - quite relaxing. Should be getting played later on today as per my e-mail request a while ago! Right on, thanks Bill.
1st Incubus for me too. A bit repetitive...could meditate to it, though...
This album is FANTASTIC, but this isn't the best track from it..
This worked so well with Kula shaker B4 it!! johnski
When Incubus does it right - they do it really right. This is lovely. This darn emoticon is driving me to drink
loving the blend of instruments, voice and melody, and how the instruments enter/their attacks. don't want this song to end. like a perfect conversation.
Seamless transition from Kula Shaker (Radhe Radhe)- impressive.
Way too long.
I like it...

"Morning View" and "Make Yourself" are a bit uneven, but worth the time. The rest...? Take 'em or leave 'em. "Crow Left of the Murder" is way too political (hey, I'm not a fan of el Presidente either, but I don't dedicate a CD of noise to suffer upon others)-- not to mention the music is crap! But this song? Damn it's 5:30 a.m. in Italy and to hear this song for the first time since I played it on a loop all night/morning with a woman who has since broken my heart... GREAT, GREAT memory of all that was good... damn I miss that night... ...it's one of those memories you hope you keep to the grave and beyond... take care of yourself D...

Make your own decisions based on what YOU think, not biased sites like AMG. I like the diversity of artists you rated though.
If memory serves me right, and sometimes it does, sometimes it skips out completely, this reminds me of Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath. a heavy band doing the dreamy, space thing. I just dont quite make it to that Zen state here. It a nice song, though.
for such a young band (young as in the age of the band members), they are actually quite interesting to me. WHomever compared them to TooL is just crazy though. TooL is so far superior they just dont even live on the same plane.

Make this go far, far away.
Dreck !
Actually, change of heart. A late motif in my life is giving things more than one chance. I must say the subtle pluck of the guitar with the slow and melodic drum beat is really nice coupled with some beautiful lyrics. ploafmaster wrote:
And what would you do if Bill and Rebecca started playing Matchbox 20? Would you instantly dismiss it? Yeah, I can't stand Matchbox 20 either, but if RP played a song by them, I'm pretty confident it would be halfway decent.
