eh, no thanks to "Safegrass" - give me the real deal!
I really hate giving a mediocre rating to any musician who can really play, and this banjo player clearly can. But hoo-man...this is a style of music I've just never been able to get into no matter how hard I try. That said, I bet it's terrific to see it played. Interesting that, hmmm.
New Grass, but no old Grass, ala Bill Monroe.  Lester and Earl are S.O.L.
Lester Flagg and Earl Scruggs marries Poco!

Wondering if this is pre - Bela Fleck on banjo. Can anyone help?

Early for Bela Fleck, may have still been under the wing of Tony Trischka at that point.
Tony still performs last I knew, If you like Mr Fleck, you might want to check out his teacher.

My parents took me to lots of Blue Grass Festivals when I was a teenager. Saw these guys several times.

I wish I could've seen them before they broke up....luckily, most of the members still got together and jammed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, so I DID get to see that, back in the 90s.

I'm seeing the Arkansas Chuggabug from Wacky Races:

Awesome, loves me some banjo!
Sorry, this immediately brings up the image of the Arkansas Chuggabug from Wacky Races:

This is one of the styles of music that make me mute or change the station.....not the direction I want to go....{#Puke}

More Bluegrass! One of the few indigenous American musical forms. I've heard some Bela and John Harford here (can always use more). Doesn't all have to be banjo, though, how about some Bill Monroe?

"late in the evenin, about sundown, high on the hill and above the town..."  Is there ANY Bill Monroe on RP??

yup...Bela joined the group in '81, and this was recorded in '77.  This picker is Courtney Johnson.

Has it really been six years since Bill played this?
Yeeeeeee-Haaaaaaa! Good Buddy (or Gal)! Festive Friday Begins!

In the minority here, probably, but I LOVE banjo!
I'm with you, Pyro. I love banjos as well, and if folks are exposed to such excellent playing as this, perhaps we won't be in the minority for long. Or so we can hope... :-)
Yay. Glad I'm hearing this here. There really is room for everything.
In the minority here, probably, but I LOVE banjo!
Funny music. I reminds me Spagetti Western
