No sun will shine in my day today
(No sun will shine.)
The high yellow moon won't come out to play
(Won't come out to play.)
Darkness has covered my light (and has changed,)
And has changed my day into night
Now where is this love to be found, won't someone tell me?
'Cause life, sweet life, must be somewhere to be found, yeah
Instead of a concrete jungle where the livin' is hardest
Concrete jungle, oh man, you've got to do your best, yeah.

No chains around my feet, but I'm not free
I know I am bound here in captivity
And I've never known what happiness is and I've never known what sweet caress is
Still, I be always laughing like a clown
Won't someone help me?
Cause, sweet life, I've, I've got to pick myself from off the ground, yeah
In this here concrete jungle,
I say, what do you got for me now?
Concrete jungle, oh, why won't you let me be now?

I said life must be somewhere to be found, yeah
Instead of a concrete jungle, illusion, confusion
Concreate jungle, yeah
Concrete jungle, you name it, we got it, concrete jungle now

Concrete jungle, what do you got for me now

Ahh, the original cover. Brilliant! The spliff to beat all.
“that's quite the sound, isn't it?” Posted 1 year ago by idiot_wind Heck yes it is! That base-grove is like the heart beating of a reggae monk. And the lyrics and guitar chants at us to rise… RISE!

Aston and Carlton Barrett were no slouches. Agreed, Bunny and Peter were core members, but the Barrett's are legends in their own right.

Coming from 9 mile where he was born, Kingston must have seemed like wall to wall concrete.

Excuse me while I light my spliff...
Bass& Drums by Barrett Bross, glorious chorus, inspired lyrics... one of the best Wailers songs
History has deleted that "roofer"; thank you RP for keeping it alive. 10/10

Rodger that. I gave it an 8 for the guitar....
Look at the size of that FRIGGIN' "SPLEEFF"!

Happy birthday Bob. Wish you were here.
Bob is king, but this one is just ok.
Putting on the headphones, and hearing this... horrible experience, just horrible.

I think a lot of Marley's tunes (and a lot of reggae tunes in general) have that sort of arrangement where the bass line carries the song.  It's very prominent in this tune.

I recently listened to a re-lease of the album that featured the original cuts the way Bob intended which was much heavier on the Wailers harmony. I liked them much better.
Still awsome!

thank you for the last  3 songs.   you  doth soothe the soul when I need it so.

I'm going to guess it's Wayne Perkins, but it could have been Bob himself.  Probably Wayne.

My favorite Bob Marley song. The video of him singing this on "Time Will Tell" is great.

Feelin' irie, mon!
This particular Bob Marley song was used with great effect in the 1995 french movie "La Haine". The stark combination of street riots in monochrome, and the music made a big impression on me. See the movie if you get the chance!
That's a mighty spleeeeeeeef, mon.
that's a funny lookin' cigarette

wasn't the coolest guitar solo junior marvins?
No, the solo is by an American session guitarist whose name escapes me. Junior Marvin wasn't with the band at the time. Neither was Al Anderson for that matter.
The guitar solo is by American musician Wayne Perkins, isn't it? If I recall correctly, Perkins had never even heard any reggae music prior to playing on this track. He just sorta winged it. Did a great job too.

Actually, the cool guitar solo was added to the version of "Catch a Fire" released in the western market. Probably the only addition that I really like. The original Jamaican version of the album is better in every other respect, IMO.

Some people have a hard time telling Asian people apart, too.
I'll say it again... good to hear some deeper cuts from Bob.

Yeah great album... particularily "Kinky Reggae". And also it is great to hear things not on Legend... Bob has so much more to offer.

This is the re-release album artwork (w/ a new artist name for marketing purposes). This song was attributed to the original 'Wailers', who broke up in 1974, after this album (and Burnin') was released. Thanks for the good tunes.
godlike...'we lift our heads and give jah thanks n praises'
Happy Birthday Bob! You will always be loved, respected, appreciated, and missed!

Regretably, I am back. No more snow here in Lane Village, but it is raining and only 51 degrees. It was 86 degrees every day on Jost van Dyke. Heaven on earth. Listened to cool reggae every day, and gave my 3 month old son his first taste of island life. Life there was pretty good.....

Pass the bong...
Ahh, Bob Marley the prophet at his very best. Good vibes! :goodvibes.gif:
that little squelch of feedback early in the guitar solo ... the way all the instrument parts fit together so brilliantly .... the vox and lyrics .... that non-reggae intro that jump-morphs into the main reggae groove ... this is THE genre masterpiece
Ah, yes! It feels so good to hear this song. One of the best songs by Bob Marley, definately. Although I like the "Babylon By Bus" live-version more. Many of his songs are filled with love.. and it's soothing to listen to them. Peace! :)
Is there gonna be a "jungle" theme? Jethro Tull's Bungle in the Jungle? Jungle Boogie?
What an entertaining segue -- Credence's Run Through the Jungle to Marley's Concrete Jungle.
Man, I need a better subwoofer right now :)

My favorite Marley tune!!!
Marley sings Songs for Life
This is one of my all time favorite Bob tunes- such a soulful bass line. There\'s a great video of this song on one of the Marley videos.....
My husband and I bought a puppy for Valentine\'s and named her Marley.
I think that this is a pretty unknown Marley tune...I only know it because I bought the album, haven\'t ever heard it anywhere else... one of my favorites, but where\'s \"could you be loved\" and \"Is This Love\"??
I wouldn\'t call this one of Bob Marleys lesser known songs - I\'ve heard it played here and there. By the way, when I was in Vancouver I stayed at a hostel whose owner recorded a reggae version of \"the internationale\" with Marley\'s band The Wailers. How\'s that for a useless fact...
A voice of an angel!
