Lookin at himself but wishin he was someone else
because the posters on the wall that don't look like him at all.
So he ties it up he tucks it in he pulls it back he gives a grin,
laughin at himself because he knows he aint loved at all.
He gets his courage from the can, it makes him feel like a man
because he's lovin all the ladies but the ladies don't love him at all.
When he's not drunk he's only stuck on himself,
and then he has the nerve to say he needs a decent girl.

Lookin at herself but wishing she was someone else
because the body of the doll that don't look like hers at all.
So she straps it on she sucks it in she throws it up and gives a grin,
laughin at herself because she knows she aint that at all.
All caught up in the trends well the truth began to bend
and the next thing you know man there just aint no truth left at all.
Cause when the pretty girl walks, she walks so proud,
and when the pretty girl laughs, oh man, she laughs so loud.

And if it aint this then its that as a matter of fact.
She hasn't had a day to relax,
since she's lost her ability to think...clearly.

Well I'm an energetic, apathetic version of another person.
Check out my outsides there aint nothing in here
Well I'm a superficial, systematic, music television addict.
Check out my outside there aint nothing in here.-comes another one,
just like the other lookin at himself but wishin he was someone else because
the posters on the wall that don't look like him,
ties it up and tucks it in and pulls it back and gives a grin.
Laughing at himself because he knows he aint loved at all.
Knows he aint loved at all

You have a favorite? Congratulation!
a busker
This album came out the same year we rented a  place at Mexico Beach for a month.  (during the off season of course) Played it constantly while there.  Great memories.  I just love his voice and style.
Groovy man. Sing along!

We get a similar plea from Jimmy Buffett's zombies, who show up around those of us actually living in the subtropics for ten days a year to throw up in our gardens and yell songs about relaxing in the streets at three in the morning. How can lameness be so aggressive?

Soccer mom music.  Not really bad, but certainly not good.  Put it back on the shelf.
Soccer moms are hot, but this slush is not.

Can he just keep surfin' and stop to make records ??
the problem is his songs are "nice" , chill, and it always reminds the summer because of the surfer background and the I-like-to-jam-with-my-friends-on-the-beach style music  ..
maybe If he could record his voice in a different way, it would be better for him... and for everybody.

I am no huge fan of Jack Johnson either, but you don't have to insult the man like that!!{#Stop}{#Lol}
this man must be stopped. does he ever fall asleep while playing his own music, b/c that's the effect on everyone else

Even that god-awful "step right up, ring the bell and win a prize" bell that had no business being in this song??

true.

He is a rather bland musician.

My girlfriend says that anytime she sees that album cover she wants to punch JJ in the face.

I don't feel quite as strongly as her, but I will settle with giving this a 3.

I'm looking out my office window and it looks just like this album cover, it's raining like crazy.
personally - i love these first 2 albums by JJ
This makes me want to throw some bongos on a fire and listen to some other music.

I guess since there is no surfing or ocean front beaches upon which to have a campfire in the desert I may never be able to relate to Mr. Johnson's music. But in all fairness, even if I did surf and live near the ocean, I still wouldn't rush out to buy his albums.
really?

We don't much from or of Jack Johnson these days. For that I am quite thankful.

And that can be some of the best music. I appreciate musically diverse and challenging tunes, but sometimes I just wanna kick back . . . and this is the music for those times.
Blech. Kind of like eating a stale marshmellow. Not much substance or taste.

Exactly...but that philosophy is lost on many...and not just about music...

i suppose i'm in the minority based on the comments below, but i really enjoy his albums. fun, catchy, acoustic beats that often put a smile on my face. if you take it for what it is, it is quite pleasant imo.

doesn't really do anything for me, I'm sure jj is a nice guy and maybe doesn't intend his music to be taken too seriously but I guess I'd rather listen to someone that does want to be taken seriously musically. Having said that, I guess this isn't really one of his worst songs.

this is OK...a "5"--every song of his sounds the same though.
they just cant admit they like JJ. he's great...nice guy too.
You guys are funny. Lots of disses, yet it's rating a 6.9 right now.

I just find jack Johnson to be so bland and generic.
And I will add that he has a very limited vocal range.
It sounds like he has a triangle and a wood block in there. To my mind, if you're gonna go with a triangle and a wood block, why oh why would you leave out a cow bell? I mean reeeaally!
I just find jack Johnson to be so bland and generic.
What's the lame bell ringing in the background? This guy has no vocal range whatsoever; all of his songs are boring and forgettable.
Jack Johnson is so great. I love the lyrics in this (& many of his others). Surprised it only has a collective 7 rating....

Same here..except I keep expecting it to be Sublime's "Santaria."

This is a JJ song I hadn't heard before, but I immediately recognized it was him by his wonderful guitar playing. Just love his style. 8)

really good. I will have to check this CD out.
This whole C.D. brings me back to a trip to Yosemite National Park... my favoriot place on earth, with my favorite person on earth, and one of my favorite c.d.s on earth. AHHHHHHHH! Thank god for memories and the songs that trigger them!

warm sand in my toes, Primo beer in hand, baggy shorts, tasty waves, and a cool buzz.
play some donovan frankenreiter too!
His other stuff is so much better and far more inspiring. This song is ok, but not a great representation. :)

dang. dot.
Boooooooooooo-ring! Gets a 3. \"Ho Hum\" indeed.
This was the first song I heard on RP a few months back... i booked marked it and have been a loyal listener ever since... Great song...
I like the lyrics to this one. I also like how it\'s soft, but somewhat danceable at the same time. I know, I\'m commenting even though I haven\'t caught it playing -- I just downloaded it; that\'s why. :)
Nothing wrong with sounding like Jimi or the Red Hots IMO. I like this song better than Scar Tissue. I like everything I've heard from this album, as a matter of fact, particularly Flake with the rip-roaring slide guitar by Ben Harper :)
Hendrix impersonation, yes, but an impersonation of Scar Tissue by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, even more.
Id like to hear inaudible melodies by JJ
