The Phish live at Bonnaroo, today: This band have developed a great sound, well-defined style, in the best tradition of the roots of rock (and derivatives), very attractive. The show is supported by a well-designed scenery, a superb set of lights the scene is sometimes breathtaking.  But I think the band Phish, to be considered a top band, needed a distinct lead-singer, more versatile and with other possibilities. The current lead singer, does a reasonable job, but modest, is not sufficient. The power of this band lies in the overall sound produced. By the way, I particularly like the version of the George.Harrison (& Beatles!) song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," I do not know if it will be displayed at Bonnaroo. What I found also a very nice gesture, the Phish was inviting the singer Kenny Rogers, 73 years old, for a song with them on stage.

never really liked this album, or this song actually. their studio stuff is more refreshing to me. I saw them live about a year ago and was pretty disappointed... :( but just the other day I bought a live trey album from the phish website and 1/2 of it is pretty good, really good actually! I don't know what's up with my head. maybe I've listened to too much phish and been to too many dead shows! how's that for nonsense {#Wave}

I sort of agree although I respect what they were able to accomplish with there fan base, etc. Fishman just spent 3 hours a couple of weeks ago with my friend's kid (aspiring drum player) and bandmates - so I have say that was pretty cool of him. Egrey wrote:

I regret not appreciating this band more when they were together. I heard a special about them on NPR last summer while driving from here to Dayton. A few things that really struck me: - The silly, kitchy things they'd do on stage while jamming (having the Globe Trotters on stage shooting baskets). - Their fan base seemed much more socially responsible than the Grateful Dead. Not a huge fan of the band, but this is definitely a fun song and Bill uses it well to leaven a set. For example, today it comes after U2 and Johnny Cash, a nice way to switch pace.

For songs like this, I wish the ratings had different descriptions. It is not that this song is sucko barfo, it is just not the kind of song I prefer. However, that does not mean I don't appreciate the musical qualities or that I think it is sucko barfo material. However, I don't have a problem sitting through it. One of the things I love about RP is that if I don't really care for a particular song, something totally different is just around the corner!

If you mean tribute as in once in a blue moon they played a Dead song to the enjoyment of the their fans..uh, I guess so. They have probably played tributes to more bands than any other bands while still crafting their own sound...perhaps the greatest tribute band of all time in that respect. It sounds like you are expressing annoyance to the fact that the culture of the Grateful Dead fround a new home following Phish. So cut the band some slack. They worked for it and they didn't have corporate sponsors to endorse them and make them immediately popular as is the trend in pop music. As for musical intelligence, the friends I had that were heavily into Phish and drugs were obsessively into the music. The fans that were there to get high and hear some sounds are the same fans that go to any show for the same purpose.

Offense taken. Trey's guitar solos most definitely "went" somewhere. Trey also has a great command of both rock 'n' roll and jazz chord structures. Trey & Jerry are/were very different guitarists, who complemented their respective band's music quite well.

I'm so tired of hearing the Phish bashing.... Here's the lowdown on Phish. 1. They carried the improvisational spirit of the Grateful Dead but their sound is barely reminiscent of the dead. 2. If you don't like them because you think they're guitar noodling goes nowhere and has no point and puts you to bed, know this, when this band played live, particularly in the early 90's (much less so post '97), they would rock your ass off jamming with conviction, soul, passion and extreme pupose to knock you into a new awareness of group mind musicianship while exploring the boundaries of music. And if you heard them play like that, you knew damn well that there wasn't a band around that could do what these guys were doing. A serious musical social experiment that found it's footing. Too bad to the haters...you guys missed out BIG TIME! 3. Try listening to more than Bouncing Around the Room. There's real good music that isn't extended jamming that has verse/chorus/verse structure that's as good as any rock that came out of the 90's sans attitude.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the live recording of Trey along with Dave Matthews when they did a little tour in Africa. There was a hour long TV special about this tour they did and this was one of the songs that was shown on the special. I like some Phish stuff, but this one isn't my favorite, even with Dave.

Phish excelled in bizzare, non-sensical lyrics and noodly, go nowhere guitar solo's. The Grateful Dead had things to say, and a guitarist who knew how to meaningfully improvise in such a way as to ENHANCE the music, to DEEPEN the meaning, and FURTHUR the groove. No offense to Phish heads, but come on. Trey and the boys are long gone, and good ridance.

This is easily one of my favorite songs by Phish, since it puts me in such a good mood. Sure, there is better, but I'm never, ever disappointed to hear this song.
