One of those old favorites that brings tears of memories to my eyes.
I didn't fully appreciate this song until I saw them perform it live.
this may be a it of a reach, but has somebody at RP been watching Good Omens? Say Yes to Heaven, Euphoria, then Yellow, and The Way as the next track??

Spent a week one summer at a creative retreat in the middle of Ohio farm country. Every morning and evening , as I drove past bucolic corn fields, this CD was my soundtrack. I still think of fresh corn fields when I hear this.

It's true, and not unusual at all. When musicians with depth become happy/content (rich, married, etc.), they often lose the spirit of angst that put them there in the first place. Quite ironic really. Radiohead is the exception!
With this tune it was yet obvious they would then make soup. 90% of their stuff was very good before this sh/t fell down like a t#rd.

You got that right Sasha. I was out in the wilderness (yes, really - Africa) on 9/11, which happens to be the day my own father passed. Look, I'm no psychologist - that's for sure. What I do know if that I listened to this and other tunes and it helped.
Slam as you are inclined RP critics - the fact is taste is best for your tongue. Most would be better off if they kept theirs in their mouth, stationary, instead of flapping it through their fingertips on RP.

Not everyone who dislikes Coldplay does so because they think it's cool. Some of us actually just think their music sucks. Don't be hating the haters.
I loved this song. I bought the album and so badly wanted to love it, but I didn't. Their second album came out... I loved The Scientist and liked one or two of the other songs, but ultimately couldn't like the album. I tried... I really wanted to like it. It just came across as way too pretentious and lifeless to me.

bumpx2! And while I'm in the "not a huge fan of Coldplay" crowd, I do consider this to be a landmark album to close out the 20th century (and yes, I WAS one of those that argued against Y2K being the "new millennium")
And I'd also like to bump planet_lizard's "Your taste is honest when you're on your own" comment. Simple and brilliant sentiment that I can attest to wholeheartedly.
And as I recall, when I first logged on to RP back in 2005, Coldplay WAS the shit....hell even as a non-fan I can say they ARE the shit. Long Live RP!!

I heart this song first in the year 2000 at our local youth radio station FM4 - very unknown by then - liked the song - had something special - but at that time, nobody thaught that Coldplay could become on of the mayor bands of the 2000's ... you never know ;)

Their performance live is always uplifting and I don't think the quality of the musicianship or the showmanship can be faulted. The show in Manchester demonstrated this, to me anyway, but his lack of ability in the high registers was as bad as ever, particularly alongside the Gallager brother.

Coldplay came out as fresh and new as did U2 and REM etc. Whether you like them or not, as musicians there are incredible and great great song writers. Just saying....

I love the music, but also the lyrics, not specially from this song. Look to the other songs, its very creative lyrics, not the usally mainstream.
Love this song. Takes me back to the last summer with our kids at home before they moved out to start lives of their own. That was around the time that we all started listening to the same music, which is still true to this day.
I've seen Coldplay three times in concert, and they give you your money's worth. Once, I saw them when the whole band had spent the entire day with acute stomach flu. The show must go on, and it did. Chris apologized ahead of time for any lack of energy, but they gave it 150% anyway.

That's true and beautiful. And to those with different cultural references, Coldplay may sound dull, down, hollow, wallow, soulless, cold, boring, unoriginal. And MADTV did a wicked take on them, which was pretty apt.
Their sound and popularity may arouse passionate protests precisely because they represent "transitions between psychological states of being;" away from soulfulness and passion to limp dread and dystopic ennui, a sign of the times; maybe even a response to the PTSD event you mentioned.

That's true and beautiful. And to those with different cultural references, Coldplay may sound dull, down, hollow, wallow, soulless, cold, boring, unoriginal. And MADTV did a wicked take on them, which was pretty apt.
Their sound and popularity may arouse passionate protests precisely because they represent "transitions between psychological states of being;" away from soulfulness and passion to limp dread and dystopic ennui, a sign of the times; maybe even a response to the PTSD event you mentioned.
We agree: "there just ain't enough time in the world to hang around the negative types." Which is why some don't want to hear Coldplay. Ever.

Had Coldplay never hit it as big as they did there would never have been anything like the backlash on display here in RP'S "enlightened" forums.

Overplayed (not here!) but you have to watch Coldplay's gig at Glastonbury 2011 ... WOW AWESOME is the only description I can think that is fitting ... Yellow is a great track, but now too overplayed here in the UK ... what to rate it? 10 going on 6.
One of the best live bands you'll ever see. Band puts their heart into the live performances. Saw them in St. Louis couple days after Michael Jackson's death and they played an acoustic Billy Jean in the middle of the grass section of the outdoor theater. Pretty cool.
I saw an extended interview with the band. I really don't think that there is more down to earth, humble band out there right now. Even the lead singer said, "we probably won't go down in history for our lyrics, maybe some of our chords, but not the lyrics." I don't know, I think the lyrics to "Clocks" are pretty cool. I like these guys. One of the last stadium bands out there.

I know I am in the minority but this song is just so pretty. So romantic. I know it was over played and the band got way too much hype but it's still a very lovely song.

i agree with some others -- this album is my favorite one from coldplay. much better than their newer stuff.
This song takes me right back to a Summer backpacking thru Europe, certainly not the best song on the album, but it has a lot of sentimental value for me.

I could never go to a festival with Coldplay on mainstage, it's pure shite but alot bands are shite now, it's all been done. However Artic Monkeys, Kooks are fav young bands at the moment.
