And it's all in the way you wonder
If you think you're learning how
Pick up your feet, you don't have to pick up a gun
You can prod the sacred cow

'Cause you know the song of love
It's empty now
As it always seems to have been
You can go on home

Used to be down to tear gas and clubs
What do you think about grenades
You know like a frag
Nonsense is as nonsense does
The judge's eagle promenades

And you know the song of love
It's empty now
As it always seems to have been
You can go on home

The good book tells us, "thou shalt not kill"
What is the meaning of this phrase
Is it sometimes right and sometimes wrong
Depends if you're foolish or brave

'Cause you know the song of love
Well, it's empty now
As it always seems to have been
You can go on home

It is truly testament to his legacy that Mr. Stills always managed to lay down such a tasty, satisfying blend of strum and twang among the unique celebrations of his skills, and often surrounded himself with other gods...
sounds like jim messina on guitar
Didn't know this one yet, but recognized Stephen Stills voice immediately. Thanks RP

Saw Stills and Manassas on this tour at the old Boston Garden. What a great show. Yep, I may be ok’d, but I saw all the cool bands!😀🤪

Wow, 6 skipped songs in a row to get this gem.  Unusually dodgy sequence, but that's RP for you.  No complaints, here...
who's on that crazy pedal steel?
Stephen Stills, a bar brawler, singing about peace and love.
The first concert I ever went to, with my two older brothers and older step sister. Two of us are still around... The music is timeless though...
One of the few (non huge) bands at the time that toured with two semis. One had the normal stage stuff: amps, instruments, etc. The other was their own light setup.
SO TIMELY! Nice guitar, too...
Probably damaged my hearing when I was young, listening to this entire album, up full, end to end. One of the few pieces of vinyl I still have from the 70's though it is, undoubtedly, worn and scratched. One of the first pieces of music I bought on CD. Love. it. Always.
Huge Stils fan & love this album & the others from this period.
Damn if these lyrics don't sound timely .
Good record. Stephen at his finest.
{#Devil_pimp}zesty ! and still one of my favorite double albums of all time / stills covers such a wide range of styles and what a band !
Steve Stills finest album in my view
Lotta' good memories for this album. And the music holds up. Good bunch of musicians.

Thanks. Fixed.

Double vinyl album, back in the day.  The first side of record #1 was, and still is, absolutely awesome.
Excellent man!  : )
Very underrated musician i must say

At E-school, all the upperclassmen had this in their LP collections, and it got played whenever there was a raging party; great old stuff!
MAGIC - even without the mushrooms
Too boring ...
Oh, yeah!  Manassas - you can't go wrong
{#Yell}{#Heartkiss} .......... luv it Bill.       "O UT S T A N D I N G"

Guitar work is stellar: lead, rhythm, solos, slide, and even that twangy guitar buried in the background with the Hammond B3.  And an AWESOME album cover.
old is best - f*** youth - last start on an oldee's revolution..
One time manassas, alltime manassas!  Very nice album!!

One more nice song from a nice album!
Oh, gosh, I'm so happy this sadly forgotten album is getting some airplay all these years later.
Album is a definite 10. This song just about a 9.

Would love to hear 'The Treasure (Take One)' from this album on RP

Saw this ensemble in Portland in 1972. I stll have the munchies.
This is one of my absolute favourite all time albums!
i love this so much.
What a great album!
STILLS-minus-drugs had been a mega-star!

MANASSAS was a great band, but when I recently saw (and heard) STILLS (with C,S & N) is was shocking and sad what times had made out of this once great musician!

Well kiss my Manassas!

Stills sounds good...I was trying to be serious and funny at the same time. Did it work?

Tasty.
Southern country rock supergroup.
Chris Hillman lives in our county....he still sounds good...doing more of country/bluegrass sound.
Not many people in my county know Manassas. Have this album since loing time. Music still fresh!!

You're right.  Though I've heard it called Stephen Stills and Manassas.

I loved Stills with Manassas. I had this on 8-track (?!) and wore it out .  Recorded it from vinyl onto cassette from a friend's turntable.  I have yet to get it either on CD or MP3, but it's on my list...

Meanwhile, it's SO good to hear it here on RP - thanks to whoever submitted it, and to Bill and Rebecca for playing it! Now - where'd I put  my  tie-dyed headband? {#Music}{#Sunny}

Just got it as an Xmas gift (a CD to replace the dusty vinyl) - yay!

My wife and I went to "The Golden Bear" (now torn down) in Huntington Beach, California in the early 80's and saw Chris Hillman with Al Perkins.
There were about 40 people inside that little club.
We sat 8 feet away from them.
We got to go in the back and meet them both after they played.

It was the best "concert" I've ever been to.

That's a trip, I saw Chris Hillman with SHF (Souther, Hillman, Furay) at Mt. Union College in northeast Ohio after their self-titled album came out. there were only 2, i believe the 2nd was 'Trouble in Paradise'. I believe part of that Manassas rhythm/percussion section (Lala, Samuels, Harris) played with them. They opened with 'Fallin in Love' and we were on our feet the whole show....maybe 300 people in a small auditorium....ahhh memories!

Nice to hear some tracks from this great LP on RP....
Stills can still play some INCREDIBLE guitar at age 64!

That's a fact!!! It's funny when you can predict what they'll play when they announce a group like Pink Floyd. You know it's going to be 1 out of 3 songs from them. Stupid corporate FM. How stupid do they think we are? People are sheep! Alright. I'm of my soapbox. For now. LONG LIVE RADIO PARADISE!
hear hear! I never listen to corporate crap radio. In my car I take my iPod, which essentially contains the RP playlist...And Manassass, of course!
One of my favorite albums of all time.
Great song, fantastic album, inspired artist! No wonder he and Jimi clicked........

This should leave no doubt as to who was the driving force of CSN. The Y was not too shabby, either.

Don't think I've heard this before, but it's definitely good. Classic rock stations should play more of these hidden gems and less of the same old same old.

Agreed on that one. One of the all time greats. Such a multi-faceted album too.
An old favorite.
Great Stephen Stills! Great album!
The fuzziness is the best part. Nothing digital, no sound machines, you can hear the grooves in the record. It's awesome!

Always did love this! Still have it on cassette tape, I think... should probably get the CD! Saw the concert way back before the beginning of time, and it was terrific. They still sound amazingly fresh.

Nice choice RP. But the credit shuold go to Manassas, not just Stephen Stills, to be fair. It was a group effort after all.
Yes it was! I still remember going to their live concert in Buffalo back in 1971-72. (Sometime around then.)

Never heard it before, but I'll definitely be hearing it again. Excellent.
