A thousand dollar car, it ain't worth nothin'
A thousand dollar car, it ain't worth shit
Might as well take your thousand dollars
And set fire to it
A thousand dollar car ain't worth a dime
You lose your thousand dollars every time
Oh why did I ever buy a thousand dollar car

A thousand dollar car is gonna let you down
More than it's ever gonna get you around
Replace your gaskets and paint over your rust
You still end up with something that you'll never trust
A thousand dollar car, its life was through
'Bout 50,000 miles 'fore it got to you
Oh why did I ever buy a thousand dollar car

A thousand dollar car ain't gonna roll
'Til you throw at least another thousand in the hole
Sink your money in it, and there you are
The owner of a two thousand dollar thousand dollar car

If you only got a thousand dollars
You outta just buy a good guitar
Learn how to play and it'll take you farther
Than any old thousand dollar car
If a thousand dollar car was truly worth a damn
Then why would anybody ever spend ten grand
Oh why did I ever buy a thousand dollar car

Great sound! Good to hear a band sounding like Neil Young!

I had no idea these guys were so wise.
Stupid damned song.
This song is my own personal theme song right now. My car is worth about $500, just put $1400 in it and need to put in another $500. Damn I wish I just bought a good guitar...
I could see Stevie Ray V. Singin' this. Hey, this one's the story of my life! Ably studies the philosophical permutations of the thousand-dollar car experience.
I hear shades of Neil every time it kicks in and hafta look to see what's playing. John digs these guys and plays them sometimes, looks like I'd recognize them by now. Cool tune.
It's a heartfelt song. Clearly, his feelings could have been much different if he had bought a different $1000 car. Alas!
I think he's giving 1000 dollar cars a bad rep. I had a 450 dollar car and it lasted me ten years before I replaced it with a 750 dollar car... Some day I may even go as high as 1000 bucks... maybe I'll write a song, "oh why oh why would you spend more than a 1000 dollars on a stinking car!"
I've got a 1000 dollar car for sale. It's a great car. REALLY! Wanna buy it?
The more I hear, the more I like. More, please.

I can see John Hyatt singing this song. Even sounds like his style.
I don't think I would like that. I love it just the way it is.
I am glad to hear the Bottle Rockets on Radio Paradise. Great stuff!
I love $1,000 cars.
a piggy tune comes over love it
A mediocre rip-off of John Hiatt (Perfectly Good Guitar) and Neil Young.

Wow, this melody is the product of an unholy joining of Neil Young's Hey Hey My My and Springsteen's Down By The River. Creepy. :)
Not certain if it's unholy, but I definitely hear those exact influences you cited.
A good jam, a tale of woe, and sound advice all in one.

Cracks me up I remember going with my dad when I was 6 and him paying $1800 for a brand new AMC Rambler 3 speed with the gear shift on the steering column. I thought that was just a fortune. That car lasted a long time (drove it as a senior in high school!)
