I'm quite surprised too. But it isn't the first time—song titles have also been shortened to eliminate potentially offensive words, such as Catherine Wheel's "Eat My Dust You Insensitive Fuck" (to "Eat My Dust") and the Evolution Control Committee's "Rocked by Rape," which became simply "Rocked." I've considered uploading Tom Petty's cover of "Asshole," but I'm certain the title alone would send it to Sorryland. Instantly. I'm not big on any such censorship, and adjusting a band's name for any reason is just wrong, imho. You have to respect the artist's intention, even if it means holding your nose while doing so. If anything about a track is that objectionable, guys, don't play it, period. This includes the band's name. Alterations of this kind are the problem I have with "Clean Flicks" or any entity that re-edits feature films or TV shows. The creative forces had reasons for their original choice of expression. Altering them to make them more palatable is a disservice to the artist. B and R have every right to play what they want (and baffle us when they reject our uploads). With all due respect, making the aforementioned sorts of adjustments is another matter, and very disappointing for such a progressively minded station.

The band has since adjusted their own name to The Daddies and that is how they are billed locally.  They refer to themselves in concert (I saw them a week ago) by their original name, but I think they heard the feedback and responded accordingly (if not reluctantly).  So, Bill's not alone.

I must say I was surprised to hear Bill say he'd adjusted the name 'cause the "cherry poppin" part was "gross" to him. I can see how it could be offensive or gross, but I wouldn't think Bill one to censor a band's name. But he does have the right to.....at the end of the day, it's his business and he's the DJ.

I gotta say though, bad call on "adjusting" their name. You don't have to like it, but you don't have the right to change it.

I enjoy it quite a bit... it's a dancy swing song. No more, no less. I gotta say though, bad call on "adjusting" their name. You don't have to like it, but you don't have the right to change it.
card stock indeed... How does one spell the sound of vomit?... Bleaugh!
I'm ashamed to say I never thought of the name of the band that way. Huh.
a completely cartoon song. has about as much soul as card-stock.
Hmmmm, this song has not aged well.
These guys are good. I think I heard an interview where they said they just tossed off the name, never intending to keep it. They probably shouldn't have, but you have to admit, you don't forget it once you hear it.
Heh. The first few bars made me think Adam Ant's "Goody Two Shoes" had made the playlist!
Doesn't matter what age they are. It's on their Ipod. Music that divides kind of misses the point-- It's communication without words.
Swing, baby, swing! Actually this is a tight band with good rhythms. While the song might sound simple, the musicians keeping it running along like a finely tuned old Studebaker.
Saw these guys a few times way back in the early 90's when I was in school at the University of Oregon and they were just a local bar band. Heh. I guess they are again! Anyway, I've always had a bit of a laugh at this album, as their other, non-compilation albums are much darker. A good song of theirs to check out is "Mom Was No Fat Broad," but it is near impossible to find. To my knowledge, it was only ever issued as on a colored 7" vinyl single. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... vinyl! As for the band name, they often had to play as "The Daddies" as "Cherry Poppin'..." caused too much controversy. I suppose it's better than "Buster Hymen & The Penetrators". :P
I agree Bill, I can't stand their band name either! I think I heard way too much of them back in the late 90s and I've completely OD'd on them. Good music though!
What a band name! Deadly music, well performed - :D
Go, Daddies, Go!!! \:D/
Why ten from me? Just only 'cause they can play their instruments.
Wow, this takes me back. Remember when "the big band sound" was going to be the next big thing?
Fun little tune...Brian Setzer bringing Big-band swing back in the swing of things was a good thing.
