Woke up this morning with light in my eyes
And then realized it was still dark outside
It was a light coming down from the sky
I don't know who or why

Must be those strangers that come every night
Those saucer shaped lights put people uptight
Leave blue green footprints that glow in the dark
I hope they get home all right

Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along
I won't do anything wrong
Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along for a ride

Woke up this morning, I was feeling quite weird
Had flies in my beard, my toothpaste was smeared
Over my window, they'd written my name
Said, So long, we'll see you again

Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along
I won't do anything wrong
Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along for a ride

Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along
I won't do anything wrong
Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along for a ride

Please Mr Spaceman!!! Thanks BillG
What was that advertising jingle that ripped this  off? Something about "Two Scoops of Raisins in Kellogs Raisin Bran"?
The Holy Modal Rounders do a nice cover.

8 then?
This song makes me think of Dr. Spaceman from 30 Rock (yeah I know everyone but Tracy pronounced it Spa-simmon but whatever)
Hmm...need to follow this up with some Bonzo Dog

Hey Mr Spaceman......it was a good time way back then.....yes, I still have the album... but not the one shown here rather it was a double album titled,  The Byrds  (Untitled)    .... the members of the group are standing, sitting, and leaning on a stairway of curve overlooking a snowy desert with monumental landscapes wearing the standard garb of the day.

Untitled is a great album for sure. That particular line up of musicians were much better players than the original Byrds members although some may argue that point of view.
great old byrds tune ! followed by credence it came out of the sky , perfect ! now maybe some don Henley there not here and their not coming ! rock on

I played softball with his brother in NJ...nothing like brother Bill - very down to earth (pun intended)

The Spaceman is still gettin' it done at 66!!!!!!!!!!!
He's got a dozen years on me, and I'm wondering how friggin' sore I'd be the next day after this:

And he did it for the San Rafael (me home town) Pacifics—https://www.pacificsbaseball.com/. The Pacifics play in old Albert Field—where we used to play pick-up games when I was a kid. Appropriate and very cool. Hell, I'm 66 and can't imagine doing what he did.

Why don't you include Radiohead's "Subterranean Homesick Alien" in this series?

Embodied the naive hope that somehow things would be "better" out there. I knew too many people who thought, and some who believed, this. None of them to my knowledge ever made it.

Couldn't agree more.
Yeah. Good one. Light and simple.

Definitely not their best.  And, I always thought that about this tune compared to their others.
Some time ago I heard a local band play this and it was the highlight of the evening. Also because of seeing a couple of "experienced ladies" doing a sort of hippie-like dance to it, looking like they'd returned to their youth, for a while.

Is this what happens when the Byrds stop singing Dylan?
A great silly song from a very intense time. 9
Not my favorite Byrds tune, but still pretty good. Thanks Bill! {#Wave}
I hope it wasn't this type of spaceman they wanted to be taken along by.
Ummmm, No.

Love the Space theme, but this is not good enough to be RP.

First song I ever learned to play on the guitar - an odd little tune, to be sure, but the Byrds ruled in my day.
the BYRDS... ah, yes. play them all day long!

This made me laugh out loud! RP could have played just about anything and it would sounded good compared to Space Oddity by N. Merchant. Great comment, thanks!
Always pleasant to hear this again. :)
