Six o'clock alarm bell rings and you roll out of bed
Hope a cup of coffee shake the cobwebs out of your head
Seven days a week man it's all the same
You're going through the motions, chasing the flame
Put on the same dirty green suit you wore yesterday and you walk downstairs
Take a deep breath two parts gasoline and one part air
See the rich man running trying to catch that train
Boy pulls on your sleeve and says mister, mister could you spare a little change

You shake your head as you look around
You see that
Love just left town, love just left town,
love just left town
love just...

Now you're standing on a dirty street corner in the middle of the day
People rushing by you ain't nobody got nothing to say
Lights turning red, lights turning green
Streets are full of taxicabs, trash trucks and limousines
Damn limousines

You shake your head as you look around
You see that
Love just left town, love just left town,
love just left town
love just...

Feel a little angry, feel a little mean
Like you're staring at a wall, staring at a wall of t.v. screens
And some fool's gone and turned the volume way up loud
You're one of the millions, just another boy lost in the crowd

And you shake your head as you look around
Oh now you shake your head as you look around
You see that
Love just left town, love just left town,
love just left town
love just...

Six o'clock alarm bell rings and you roll out of bed
Just hope a cup of coffee shake the cobwebs out of your head
Love left town
Love left town
Oh love left town
Oh now your love left town
Love left town
Oh love left town
Six o'clock alarm bell rings and you roll out of bed
Love left town

Whatever happened to Darden? Pretty good song, though I liked others a bit more on this disc. Picked it up after seeing him play solo, opening for Marshall Crenshaw at Slim's in San Francisco, around 1991. Poor Darden had his guitar stolen that day on BART (the subway), and kept his spirits up and still played a nice set on a borrowed guitar.
Yeah, Darden Smith. He's a kinder, gentler version of Warren Zevon. I like his stuff - especially "Little Victories." There are some heartwrenching songs on this CD - "Precious Time" will make me cry every time I hear it, no matter how happy I am when I listen. This song is good to drive down the highway to with the stereo cranked up loudly and the sun shining.
YAY! Darden Smith to start my day. I LOVE this song and this artist.
