I got sixteen days
One for every time I've gone away
One for every time I should have stayed
You should have wore my wedding ring

I got sixteen days
Fifteen of those are nights
Can't sleep when the bed sheet fights
It's way back to your side

Well the ghost has got me running (ghost has got me running)
The ghost has got me running (ghost has got me running)
Away from you, away from you, away

Well the ghost has got me running (ghost has got me running)
Well the ghost has got me running (ghost has got me running)
Away from you, away from you, away

I got sixteen days
Got a bible and a rosary
God, I wish that you were close to me
Guess I owe you an apology

I got sixteen days
Fifteen of those are nights
Can't sleep when the bed sheet fights
It's way back to your side

Well the ghost has got me running (ghost has got me running)
Well the ghost has got me running (ghost has got me running)
Away from you, away from you, away

Well the ghost has got me running (ghost has got me running)
The ghost has got me running (ghost has got me running)
Away from you, away from you, away

Old tin cups, little paper dolls
All wrapped up, in ribbons, bows, and hearts
Old tin cups, and little paper dolls
All wrapped up, in the ribbons of your heart

I got sixteen days
Sixteen days
I got sixteen days
It's like before I hang

what I like about this kind of country music
is that it doesn't sound like the other kind of country music—too commercial and gimmicky

Agreed.  Lots of talent in that band.
This song reminds me of when my mother in law was dying from cancer. Yes, was a very sad and difficult time. We drove 3 hours one way to see her, once and sometimes twice a week, for months. We were very aware of the little time we had left. My husband, who was actually not yet my husband at that time, played this song very loud. A lot.

Killer song! I find it rather rocking, with lots of passion; makes me like its country style more than I might usually be inclined to...
An Alt-Country classic though more.....Ryan Adams' best effort IMO.  Was fortunate to catch them at Tractor Tavern in Seattle right after Strangers Almanac release....perhaps one of the best shows I've seen in a small venue, a 3 1/2 hour marathon.  They opened with this song and continued to tear through a list that culminated from requests from the audience.  As the crowd thinned out on a week night, perhaps with no more than 50 people in the audience and the lead guitarist asking if someone had any weed he could savor, they were out of their own material - it ended with a Fleetwood Mac medley and beers at the bar afterwards!  What a memory.
{#Cheers}

Yep, I'll second that. This is too close to maudlin C and/or W for these ears. Insta-mute and back in 5.

Have always loved this song!

But I love this song. I like RA better with Whiskeytown, personally, than solo, though I do like some of his solo songs a lot. Just haven't ever found any of his solo albums as consistently solid as either "Faithless Street" of "Stranger's Almanac".

Okay, I can't vouch for the accuracy of these lyrics, but here's the gist:

16 Days

Got sixteen days
One for every time I've gone away
One for every time I should have stayed
Should have wore my wedding ring
Got sixteen days
Fifteen of those are nights
Can't sleep when the bed sheet fights
its way back to your side

Well the ghost has got me running
Away from you, away from you, away
Well the ghost has got me running
Well the ghost has got me running
Away from you, away from you, away

Got sixteen days
Got a bottle and a rosary
God I wish that you were close to me
I guess I owe you an apology
Got sixteen days
Fifteen of those are nights
Can't sleep when the bed sheet fights
Its way back to your side

Well the ghost has got me running
Well the ghost has got me running
Away from you, away from you, away
Well the ghost has got me running
Well the ghost has got me running
Away from you, away from you, away
Old tin cups, little paper dolls
All wrapped up in ribbons bows and hearts
Old tin cups and little paper dolls
All wrapped up in the ribbons of your heart
I got sixteen days
Sixteen days
I got sixteen days
It's like a fool I am

Love Ryan Adams's work from this era!!!
Great song from an even better album.

Early Ryan Adams. Cool. More please.

Me either!
talk about derivative...this is like a MOE cover band. about as predictable as you get.
love this whole cd...especially this song.
They can't help it...it's due to lack of awareness either by geography or upbringing...

Hear, hear! My #1 pet peeve is the god-awful icon, especially when used as the entire comment. What does that mean, exactly? As you pointed out, that kind of comment creates defensiveness and ill will in those that do like the song, artist or genre being barfed on. I think RP would be a better place if that emoticon were removed. In the meantime, I would like to add my plea to yours that forum users avoid offensive or dismissive comments. Dislike a song, but there's no need to be angry or mean about it.

sounds to me like he's the grand nephew of Gram Parsons , in spirit, at least. (Now how about some Grievous Angel, Bill?)  Whiskeytown was a legend here in NC.

Haven't spent too much time with the Ryan Adams solo stuff, but this is a solid 9 for me. Listened to this entire CD nonstop for months and had an opportunity to see 'em live back in the day.
Love this song....love this band.

One of my all time favs.
Argh, being self-taught is really a drag sometimes, because I had no freakin' clue that Ryan Adams, one of my favorites, had a life prior to his solo stuff. So thanks, RP, because without you I'd still be in a world of ignorance. This is great and I'll be gettin' it momentarily.
Gotta remember to upload Driving Rain by these guys. Definitive.

Prefer the rendition on "Faithless Street".
I prefer the Strangers Almanac version. I wonder if that's because I didn't hear this one until after I had already listened to the Strangers Almanac version 100 times. I tend to do that with two different versions of the same song--prefer the one I heard first.
Kicked up to a 10. God, I love this song!
great song, great album.
GOOD GOOD STUFF!!! Again, I curse the likes of commerical radio for my ingorance of this band until my third decade of life. Thank you, RP!!!
Love this song. Thank you for playing this!
Still loving this! That guitar solo is just familiar enough to make me think it reminds me of something. Great song.
Probably my favorite song on this album, no surprise that it seems to be the one that gets played on RP. This whole album is really great, though.
A wonderful addition to the eclectic mixture here.
Reminds me of Fleetwood Mac a little. Kinda cool.
Prefer the rendition on "Faithless Street". Except for the way that album always ends up the same: Me, too drunk by half. *considers putting FS on* ________________ Update: It went on. Just finishing up side 1. It's the expanded version, with bonus trax & Ballpark Sessions. One of those CD's where I mess with the track order. Here's how I listen to it: side1: Midway Park Drank Like A River Too Drunk To Dream Tennessee Square What May Seem Like Love Faithless Street (short pause) If He Can't Have You Hard Luck Story 16 Days Yesterday's News Factory Girl side 2: Revenge Top Dollar Black Arrow, Bleeding Heart Matrimony (short pause) Lo-Fi Tennessee Mountain Angel Mining Town Excuse Me While I Break My Own Heart Tonight Desperate Ain't Lonely (short pause) Empty Baseball Park Drank Like A River Faithless Street Here's To The Rest Of The World I just finished side 1. Four beers in. Time to put the laundry in the dryers.
Toaster's got me runnin'?
Wish Ryan and Caitlin would team up again. Pneumonia will always be in my "Top 10 of All Time."
hell yes, love this song
First song I ever heard from Ryan Adams. Loved it ever since. BTW, this is NOT mainstream country. This can be called No Depression or Alt Country. Where Wilco started out, but they moved away from this sound.
great song, i'd love to hear more whiskeytown played!

Front Of The Cheminee (with a Scotch or Bourbon) Yess..
I didn't even think of this as country when I heard it. Rock and country have pretty much everything in common except the overly conspicuous twang some of the singers put on. Good song.
Definitely a great song.
The imagery of this song rips me apart while the upbeat tune and tempo makes me dance. What an amazing song....

Though I looked up the real lyric and it makes sense too ^_^
I love Whiskeytown so much. Happily Ryan Adams returned to his roots on Cold Roses. RP could use some Pneumonia too - how about Don't Wanna Know Why or The Ballad of Carol Lynn?
Guitars, drums, electric organ and lyrics about farting bedsheets. What more could you want?! :D
Hmm, I thought I'd commented on this song once upon a time. Maybe it got lost in the change-over. I can't help but hear a healthy dose of Sonny Landreth in this...the chorus at least. Excellent tune.

well, i just got back from a trip from the central california coast and listened to K-PIG the whole time driving around. since they took over the frequency of K-OTTER in san luis obispo, i've been upset with the otters deletion. but i can say... pigs music selection is still better than almost anybodys fm broadcast i've heard elsewhere. just not as good as KOTR. i just hope nobody buys out KPIG and deletes it's format.
I dig this album, with a shovel.
Cool. A 9. Add this one to the list of many songs and artists and albums played by RP that I must go out and buy. 'Course, will do so through the RP links so Bill gets the credit. (Haven't figured out how to buy single songs from i-tunes yet??) By the way, thanks Bill... keep spinning 'em just the way you are. Oh, and when I stumbled upon RP one magical day that seems to have changed my everything, I heard your voice and recognized it right away from your KPIG days (where I first heard "16 Days"). I always wondered why you left. Now I know. Long live Radio Paradise! I have more music in my life than at any other point. I'm a monthly contributer, and pray RP will continue ever on. In light of the recent news coverage, though this is a bit morbid, I hope you all have plans for RP to go on and on and on. Can't imagine my life without RP at home and at work where I'm turning a lot of kids on to real music. atticus P.S. KPIG just isn't the same.
I really like this album a lot - and 16 Days is great!

How could I have ever forgotten these boys? Sorta like the BoDeans, but without the sacchyrin sweetness. Thanx, Bill. Some memories should be renewed. Samiyam :D

Always loved this sort of poprock. Took me some time to remember what other song this one reminded me of; Love of the Common People.

rank and file... holy cow! now there\'s cowpunk! if bill played them he\'d scare everybody away, except for us weirdos posting positive comments about roots rock.
Great song from a great album, way to go Bill! Always room for more roots/americana/cowpunk: Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, Jayhawks, Jason & Scorchers....keep it coming!
