Well it's such a strange world that I'm living in
She was my woman and she was my friend
But I was wrong again.
Such a strange changes that you put me through
But like a fool I fell in love with you
What can this poor boy do?

Roll away the stone
Don't leave me here alone
Resurrect me and protect me
Don't leave me laying here
What will they do in two thousand years?

It's such a strange time that we're passing through
I thought you'd tell me when your time was due
I guess you thought I knew
Strange way to keep avoiding me
Why did you lie how could I help but be
Oh won't you help me be?

Give it up for all my Shelter People!
Having been raised in Radio Hell I had heard of names like Leon Russell and Suzanne Vega but never got to hear them, until here.  I'm glad I did.
wanted to love Leon but after much sampling of his music this is the only album I bought . do love it though
I'm reading Elton John's autobiography - Leon Russell was a huge influence - and now I understand where EJ got his distinctive piano attack. If you're gonna copy someone, copy the best, right?
c.

Leon wrote his ass off.  For everyone.  If you're going to say anything other, I'm not listening.  {#Meditate}
Good stuff, without a doubt.
It's a mighty long way down rock and roll.
some of this would be good

thank you Jesus,...and you too Bill
Why have only 246 of you rated this song when it was recorded in 1970? When were you born? Versus, is this not a timeless classic?

+2  Excellent doc.

Also check out Elton John's speech inducting Leon (his hero) into the RR Hall of Fame.

They used this song as an outro to this show:

So we must be in the middle of a Messianic set ... this sone followed Tom Wait's Chocolate Jesus and OTR's Jesus in New Orleans. Should we say "amen" after each song?
BTW, that's Charlie Watts on drums and Bill Wyman on bass.

Now you have to play Bob's Watching the River Flow with Leon's barrelhouse piano filling in the holes.
I loved this song/album when it first came out, but I always suspected Leon Russell partly responsible for Joe Cocker's evolution from 'gift from God' (With a Little Help From My Friends) to something a lot less original (Mad Dogs & Englishmen) in the space of a year or two.

This is a kick- tune! It's always been. Some Leon trivia for you: A former LA session guy, he literally rounded up all the players that formed the "Mad Dogs" tour, these same guys playing on "All Things Must Pass" and "Layla & Other Love Songs". Leon's best work is "This Masquerade", covered very well by George Benson. And did you know Leon penned "This Diamond Ring" for Gary Lewis & the Playboys?
Unless Leon was writing under a pseudonym, Al Kooper, Bob Brass, and Irwin Levine wrote "This Diamond Ring", although it's generally accepted that he played piano on the recording date. It was pretty easy to round up the Mad Dogs band: he simply lifted Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett's touring band whole cloth (himself, Gordon, Keltner, Whitlock, and Radle), added Keyes, Price, and Keltner, and mixed 'em in with Chris Stainton from Cocker's Grease Band. Voila! Instant, thundering, lumbering band. A great album is Delany & Bonnie & Friends: On Tour with Eric Clapton. The core band plus Clapton and on occasion Dave Mason and George Harrison behind the Bramlett's. One of the great, neglected masterpieces of that era.

To echo other listeners...how nice to hear this again after so many years!
Always good to hear ol' Leon...did you ever notice how the intro to this makes you think you're about to hear Mott the Hooples "All the Way to Memphis?"
Great song, really happy to be hearing it right now. Even happier coming after Hot Tuna and Tom Waits. What a set list!
Ya gotta love Leon's barrelhouse piano on Bob's Watching the River Flow.
Played a small club here last Saturday PM. I did not make it, but heard it was really good. Still kickin'...
Mediocre since that time...
Great to hear this, I was a big fan back in the 70s
LEON!!! Alive & Well @ a small resort venue tomorrow night... :crown.gif:
