California's been good to me,
hope it don't fall into the sea,
sometimes you got to trust yourself,
it ain't like anywhere else,
it ain't like anywhere else,

It's time to roll,
I'm all done,
It's time we better, hit the road.
I got work, later on,
It's time we better, hit the road.

California's been good to me,
I hope it don't fall into the sea,
sometimes you've got to save yourself,
it ain't like anywhere else,
ain't like, anywhere else.

Sun down, red skies,
nobody's, been around,
sun down, blue lies,
I kinda like this,
party town.

California has treated me good, (california's been good to me)
I pray to god that the hills don't flood, (gonna fall into the sea)
Sometimes you've got to trust yourself, (*repeat this line*)
It ain't like anywhere else, (sometimes you've got to save yourself)
It ain't like anywhere else, (it ain't like anywhere else)
It ain't like anywhere else.

10 years since the last comment!  I dig this track, always makes me reflect on my relationship with my adopted hometown, which happens to be Tom's hometown, and my hometown, which I hardly ever think about.

Hahahaha! The man behind the curtain is listening. Very clever. And I mostly like Tom Petty, although i don't find this some very compelling.

He should do an album with Derek Trucks . . .
one of my favorite break-up albums...
Seems like he kinda phoned that one in.

And you can add Berkeley ain't like any place in California! I long for a pizza from the Cheese Board.
Ah...a little California dreamin' on such a winter's day...
This song is a good illustration of why Tom Petty is so much admired as an artist.
never understood why jed would move there
If only it didn't cost a fortune to live there... :(

This album is fantastic, but the movie is, um, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Me too! I just love driving up and down this great state.
Me three! Lived there 10 years and barely a day goes by where I don't miss it. May still move back there, but for now digging the Euro life.
great transition. not a Petty song i remember ever hearing, but it is in the same vein as my fav. tune by Tom "Walls" and for that it's alright by me.
Looking at the cover of this CD, the actress with Edward Burns on the CD cover (I think they were married at the time), wasn't she with Sawyer in that episode of "Lost" (the backstory where he backs out of the "scam" when her son walks into the room right as he is closing the deal?) May not be but sure looks like her.
that transition was impressive. Bill, you are the man.
I'm from Pennsylvania.....it will be cold and snowy here for the next 4 months.....don't listen to that 'all 4 seasons' nonsense.....give me some CA sunshine!!!

Masterful segue.
yeah...definately not just throwing stuff against the wall to see if it'll stick. Good job. That's why my net radio rarely leaves RP.
Masterful segue.
This is a great "overlooked" Tom Petty album, with a lot more musical variety than you'll normally find on his albums (not a HUGE stretch, I know). The "Hope on Board" lead into the second "Walls" version is as good as it gets. Play more of this anytime!
Hard to believe TP and his band have been together nearly 30 years.......excellent cut..........glad you included him in the mix today!!
Good stuff, Bill. What a great surprise!
Thanks Bill for the great California set you played today! As only a transplanted New Jersey girl could say -- Shari from Trabuco Canyon, Orange County CA, overlooking Mount Modjeska, by way of Brooklyn NY and Princeton NJ.
Bill, play anything by Tom Petty (and the Heartbreakers) and it will make me happy! pbm 8^)
Isn't that the freakin' truth, especially now. Ain't like anywhere else.
I love this song!!! I think this entire album is overlooked also. It has some really great tracks on it, but I think this one is my favorite. Don\'t know why but I really love when he says \"...Kinda like this part of town.\"
I used to think the same thing until I moved to Arkansas.
Excellent. Cheers!!
Now this is a good un.
