You sure looked good, bound for Shilburn Town
Tryin' to drive that car while the rain came down
And you sure looked fine
Oh yeah, you're readin' highway signs

And you sure looked good up on Crystal Beach
Reelin' in them fish, with your hair all bleached
And you sure looked fine
Hey, yeah, with your hooks and lines

La, da, di, dumb, da, la, da, di, dumb, day
Every move you make, everything you say
Well, you sure are fine
Oh yes, and you blow my mind

And you sure looked good out at Rainbow Falls
Pass the parking lots and all the crowded malls, yeah
And you sure looked fine
Um hum, underneath them pines

La, da, di, dumb, da, la, da, di, dumb, day
Every move you make, everything you say
Well, you sure are fine
Oh yes, indeed, and you blow my mind

You sure look good back in ol' Canton
With your new blue dress and with your lipstick on
And you sure look fine
Yeah, drinkin' the cheap red wine

And you sure look good back in Meisha-Shay
With your reindeer eyes on Christmas day
And you sure looked fine
Um hum, like a valentine

La, da, di, dumb, da, la, da, di, dumb, day
Every move you make, everything you say
Well, you sure are fine
Oh yeah, and you blow my mind

yes, it is very unique - and strangely appealing. will try to see him live and see if there's the connection mentioned in a comment above. one of those "never bought the album" artists but when a tune comes on, immediately think "that's Steve Forbert".  cannot remember a lot these days so it's always such a charge when things are just there...

I saw Steve Forbert with Freedy Johnston at club Pass, Aimee in Cambridge, Massachusetts just last week! Watch for them touring the USA these next few months Steve Forbert is amazing, great harp player in addition to stellar songwriter
I just bumped this from a 3 to a 7!  It's interesting how one song can seem blah one day and great on another day.
This guy has such a quirky voice, and I've always liked it.
That was some cool harmonica work.  I haven't heard that rapid fluttering technique before.
Listened to the song hundreds of times back in the day on Steve’s album Alive on Arrival-a sweet collection of feel good melodies and rhythms from an awesome, underappreciated singer songwriter.
Nice song. First time hearing it.
I stepped on a ‘pop top’, then bought a skinny tie, what year is this? What a clean sound.
I'll be watching you?
great song writer here!!!
Well, this is certainly a song. Notes and words and everything.
Man I love this guy...

got a cool John Prine kinda thing going on here..

Maybe John Prine meets Rod Stewart?
Been a long time since this played in some smoky basements of my misspent youth!
Love the harmonica.
For some reason, Forbert didn't get much airplay in the midwest. I had his Alive on Arrival L.P. and none of my friends had heard of him. That was a very good album. He is a talented songwriter and musician.
Still joyous forty years later.

rather boring lyrics.

how many times does he have to say the same thing...

As many times as he want to, it's his song after all...
Sure miss you Steve. .  Haven't seen you since you played at the Turning Point, Nyack NY 1980 sumthin.  Even got to dance with you!

Because he plays the harmonica?  He sure sings better than Dylan, which ain't saying much.  His lyrics don't compare tho.

God...what a great memory of playing Steve on WNYU...89.1..."all the way to left, a little to the right on your FM dial."
This would be great for the Stranger Things soundtrack
Elmer Fudd on the harmonica.... don't shoot the messenger, just sayin.
got a cool John Prine kinda thing going on here..
Always wonderful
Always brings back memories of WHFS

Indeed.  I now remember this as one of my favorite happy, yippee-skippy songs.  Thanks for cheering up my day Rebecca and Bill!{#Kiss}

So the comments are positive yet the rating is low.  Interesting dynamic (at least to me)

I think it's because the album is so great, of which this song forms a piece. Mayne it is a vital, but perhaps 'uninspired' piece...

Had to look - thought that it was Dylan.

Always liked Steve Forbert, and nice to see him come up on rotation.

Kiss of death to any career. Love him anyway!

AHHHH Steeeve!!! Please Bill, play one day "Get well soon little girl", my favorite.
Reminds me of "Lude Lafayette & Wolfsmond - Beinah Ein Hauch Von Einsamkeit", a German band and song from the mid 70s.
Hey, it's the New Dylan!

I think the song you are thinking of is Romeo's Tune I had the same reaction to him until I got it!

He also got a lot of airplay with "The Oil Song" in the USA

A nice blast from the past, a time when The Cars, PF's The Wall, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick and Steve Forbert were all over the airwaves

10!
You know why?
I have'nt heard Steve Forbert on radio in France since 30 years!!
Thank you Radio Paradise, youre so great.
Speaking of Romeo's Tune I see it is in the RP library but NEVER played. I'm sure Bill could work that into one of his theme playlists one of these days.
I finally registered just to comment on this song.

Thank you for playing Steve Forbert _- Fantastic
keep up the good work.

I had to chuckle a little at his harmonica playing though - not quite Lester Butler ;)

But, I do like this tune.

So nice to hear Steve Forbert on RP.  Loved him back in the 80's.  Thanks Bill

I remember Steve Forbert from his hit single Schoolgirl. I heard it a lot on the radio here in Holland in 1980 or 1981.
OK, you made me smile :)
but I was drinking the cheap red wine.........still counts.

Fantastic. Wish he was played more often on RP

Familiar? Yup: early Dylan, early Springsteen... "definitely unique"? Are you kidding?
More Stevie Forbert. please!
Haven't heard Forbert in a long time. Thanks RP.... let's hear more.

I couldn't link to the other reply to your post. Remember this? Meet me in the middle of the day Let me hear you say everything's okay Meet me in the middle of the night Let me hear you say everything's all right I always find myself singing "Responsibility," another of his many great tunes. Summertime's long been my favorite But now it's old autumn I love Summertime fun and some beach in the sun is something I'm not seeing much of
Heathen praise for the Jack Rabbit Slim.
Steve use to come over and drink a case a day back in the 80\'s in NYC. Poor guy couldn\'t get a break other than put out 3 cbs records and get no support from them in promoting. To bad they spent tons on Maria Carey. Ops I forgot, she was giving BJ\'s to the boss.
Nice - brings back lots of memories.

So glad to have (re)discovered Steve Forbert, because of RP and KPIG playing his songs. Especially his Smokey Windows, was one of the biggest musical surprises this year, for me. Listening to Steve Forbert is like meeting an old, long lost friend- or companion.
Niiice!!! Cool beat. Good harmony.
