If there is a down side to this song, it is that Pink Floyd rarely performed it live, probably because they used an outside vocalist for the song. Would love to hear a version sung by Gilmour. I think there may be some early versions with Waters/Gilmour on the Immersion release of the album, I better check.

Back in the day... early '79 to be exact I had the privilege to hang out on the south coast of Crete listing to this whole album drinking cheap red wine at 11 in the morning

I never felt this song fit onto 'wish you were here', I always thought it was something they couldn't fit onto 'Dark Side' but was way to good to hold on to?
This and You Never Give Me Your Money belong together. Great music and lyrics.

Excellent seque into this (October 20 2020)
This is one of the rare PF songs where David Gilmour does not sound like himself. He is doing a style that is very different than his usual brilliance. And it works great of course, because Gilmour is God.

Fond memories of 9th grade walking home from school in the fall and jamming to this album for months straight... I love when the tune gets sucked back into the radio... might be my favorite Pink Floyd record.

Funny, I recently re-watched it myself, and your correction is ...well, correct. :-) I personally think Roy's vocal worked out best, kinda fits with the theme of the song and all. Long Live RP!!

I watched a pretty good WYWH documentary (I think it's still on Netflix) with a part about Harper vocal, and how the band ultimately wished they'd done it themselves. . . .

I'm still upset that I was born in the late 70's instead of the late 50's and could have been around when this was coming out. Oh well!
And of course, like almost all PF music, it plays better as part of the entire album and not on it's own.

When I was introduced to this album and song at age 17 I felt like I had been given a true treasure. Lying in the grass on a summer day with this casette playing on my boom box (The 80's) I felt like flight had been granted to me........................

You dug that funky Bowie bass and took it down to an even funkier place...BTW, saw a band called Blue Floyd jam in Boulder a decade or so ago (members of the bands Allman Bros, Gov't Mule, and Black Crowes were in it) and they reminded us just how bluesy the ol' Floyd really were! THANKS! Liking this particular stretch quite a bit...Such good fun with such great sound here!

Got this album when it came out. Blue celophane over the cover. It stayed on my turntable for a month.
...i stumbled upon a compact disc about ten years ago which was a remarkably faithful reproduction of the original LP packaging, right down to the opaque outer sleeve and seal...i bought it on the spot to supplement my three other copies of the album, but you know, those are the sort of serendipetous experiences people can't have in this new era of no-physical-media, certainly not the incidental browsing and discovery...

Love all the riffing. And that "fade" ending was exactly the right touch.

It's an extraordinary mix. The first time I played it, I sat enraptured and had to hear it again immediately. I don't do that anymore, really. Although it's tempting, particularly these days, to see PF as a David Gilmour experience - the 5.1 points out how incredibly important Richard Wright was in the sound of this.
Little nuances here and there, the fake strings on Have a Cigar, and a million other places where he's subtle but important... I strongly recommend the 5.1 version as a new way to hear the album with fresh ears.

One of the best, and most cutting, satires on the 'music biz'. Not that much has changed since Floyd's day, if anything the gravy train has got worse, for all the bleating of the 'industry' about downloads.
