Dear God, is there somebody out there?
Is there someone to hear my prayer?
I'm a simple man with simple words to say
Is there some point in asking?
Asking for more only got us where we are today
Lost and alone and afraid

Give me, love for the lonely
Give me, food for the hungry
Give me, peace in our restless world
Give me, hope for the children
Give me, a worldwide religion
Give me, peace in our restless world

Dear God, can you hear me crying?
A whole world crying
Looking for something to say
We had it all and we threw it all away
Is there somebody watching
Somebody watching over the mess that we've made
We're lost and alone and afraid

Give me, love for the lonely
Give me, food for the hungry
Give me, peace in our restless world
Give me, hope for the children
Give me, a worldwide religion
Give me, peace in our restless world

And we need to know there's something good
Though all our years of solitude go on and on and on...

Give me, love for the lonely
Give me, food for the hungry
Give me, peace in our restless world

oh, oh

Give me, hope for the children
Give me, a worldwide religion
Give me, peace in our restless world

oh, oh

Give me, love for the lonely
Give me, food for the hungry
Give me, peace in our restless world

oh, oh

Give me, hope for the children
Give me, a worldwide religion
Give me, peace in our restless world

Dear god, is there somebody out there,
Is there someone to hear my prayer

Hard to believe this song hit #4 on the US alt chart. Must have been Christmas time.

Vapid and vacuous codswollop. Silly string of platitudes. This is just an insult.

Not so sure about Midge as solo artist but practically anything from Ultravox is welcome; one of the better bands from the 80's mostly no one ever heard of.

Ultravox did some really good stuff but I'm not so sure about Ure's solo stuff either; these lyrics are pretty corny.
Good to hear Midge Ure
I turned on my internet radio player and heard this song. The song was so mawkish, I was shocked to see that it was tuned to Radio Paradise. At least it prompted me to register and get an account... Lol! I agree with other commenters, this song does not ever need to be played. It is similar to Ure's "Do They Know It's Christmas Time" or even "We are the World". Songs perhaps originating from a good intention but ending up very contrived. Rating=lowest.
Anyway, now that I am registered, maybe I will go buy a T-shirt to support the two wonderful people who run this place. Cheers.

Maybe he's starting a food bank. {#Stupid}

Jesus fing Christ, even the guy on the cover is biting on his fist to keep the barf down

Suck-O Barf-O.  This is a terrible song asking for a worldwide religion.  I wonder if Midge realizes how and why that won't work.
I don't think a rating of "1 - Sucko-Barfo" could better describe this song.
Possibly the worst song I've heard on RP. Lacking in humor and talent.

sounds like it should be on one of those crappy faith/worship albums they advertise on late night tv.

Not really gettin' it, are you?

I am very surprised, this song is not that bad.  I remember this guy from Ultravox - that band had some good songs but never seemed to get recognition!

Bingo

Answer: No. There isn't.
there is no god. therefore no need for this song.

This is, without a doubt, the worst song I have ever heard in my entire life. Please Bill - for the Love of Gawd - never play this song again.

Dear God.....Give me ....a break. Give me ...a break. Give me...a break.

Let's get XTC back in here on this subject.  This doesn't sound like anything.

Ironic...I am listening to this song and the previous one by Camper Van Beethoven-(Might Makes Right) as I am looking at 34 pictures of India, where there are Monsoon victims and refugees and fighting between Hindu & Christian, soldiers and protesters and many other images of unrest and attempts at peace in a restless world.

Pretty cool pictures

I thought I had successfully forgotten about this one.
Dear God indeed.

Agreed, although most of Sarah's early stuff can just as easily be tagged over-synth, like this track.
Sarah's version, which I think is one of her better vocal deliveries (far more passionate than anything she's done since Fumbling), is actually a cover of XTC's Dear God. I agree with Ag3nt0rang3, XTC's song is much better than this one. Much.

Yep. Reminds me of Steely Dan: lots of love, lots of hate, and ratings all over the spectrum. Props to Fort Wayne, if that's where you're from. (Southside!)
Who opened this dude's mail and why didn't they pick his letter to the IRS instead? Maybe that would be more interesting.

I also found that line a little troubling.
The potential number of religions is limited only by your imagination.
Trite presentation for an awesome topic.
Give me the end of the song

Although many of the lyrics on this CD are naive and far too earnest, there is still something compelling about it. The duet with Kate Bush is also a plus.
