You realize this song was written in 1971. JJ Cale was a major influence to greats like Clapton and Knopfler. The reason it sounds simple now is because simple blues progressions have been around and played for over 75 years. Yes, the melody is familiar, but his voice, guitar style and tone is unique.

ok. I personally don’t like this song, but its just not my taste. BUT i am rating it very low as it does not belong in the mellow play list nor played on that list as much as it is. I think RP needs a country rock genre as someone in programming seems to believe “mellow” = “country rock”. It is not. Of course we’re all entitled to our opinions….

J.J. Cale got lots of air play on CHOM-FM in Montreal way back in the day.
he's one of the few guitarists .. you know .. top tier..

Ronnie Van Zant was a great songwriter. The fact that he covered this is quite a tribute

this album is great and his 2nd "Really" kept the breeze blowing

just heard Bill's comments about this being one of those songs that paid JJ's bills
i read Cale's response to a question about others doing his songs and in TV commercials
he said "I don't mind it and I consider it a compliment and I especially like it when I walk out to the mailbox"
