No, you just need to have smoked about 10 pounds of weed, popped pills of every variety, chasing this all with a gallon of ripple wine, and then the music of the Grateful Dead will make perfect sense to you.

Favorite album from the boys...and it was all done in house on their own label.  Jerry was a workaholic in the early-mid 70's between producing albums, guesting on others, touring with the band and himself, and even putting together the Grateful Dead movie.

One of my favorite Dead songs. And yes, live is always better! Over 400 shows, so I should know! My daughter, when she had to do her state project in 4th grade, drew Tennessee as her state. She wrote that Jed and his dog were from there. The teacher didn't understand, so she had to explain the Dead's "Tennessee Jed". She also talked about how Jack Daniels was from Tennessee. Teacher must have really wondered about that poor child's upbringing!

You always hear about how the Dead's studio stuff pales in comparison to their live stuff.  And to a certain extent, that's true.  But that said, this is a really nice track.  I like the fiddle.

I too have noticed some of The Dead's influence in Wilco's tunes, often in Jeff Tweedy's singing style,  While I like a lot of Wilco's material, I was never very moved by The Dead, though many of my friends were devout followers.  I do appreciate their impact and influence though - this song's pretty good.  IMHO

OK I was teenager, but I stole somebody's hit of microdot, having never tripped before, went walking downtown, stole Wake of the Flood on 8 track—not knowing who they were…. I know I was bad, but this is still my first and favorite album by this group. And a great introduction to the psychedelic 60s, albeit I did this in the 70s. I don't steal anymore—the microdot taught me better.
