Lately I've been listening a lot to a playlist I created that spans Then Play On to Heroes. Still great stuff!

Another list is all of their earlier, straight blues stuff, including FM In Chicago. One gets tired of repeatedly hearing Jeremy Spencer pretend he's Elmore James, however.

This is FM 2.0 - post Peter Green, pre "Rumors" lineup.  The continuity was the McVies and Mick Fleetwood.  "Bare Trees" was a terrific album, but completely overshadowed by the first two Buckingham/Nicks discs.

Couldn't find that when following your link. This one has the info.

Fred, your link did provide this even nuttier piece of trivia: Patrick Stewart claims that Frank Sinatra never missed an episode of Star Trek The Next Generation. 

Really like two of the FM tracks I've heard from this album. It's like the Mac was an entirely different band from the Rumours-era lineup.

I don't know if it's just you.  Any time a group agrees to go in a new direction, I think you could argue that they lost something special, which of course was the old direction.  And we could speculate about whether they lost it or left it behind, but I think it's pretty well agreed that Mick and the McVies were looking for new direction at the time Lindsay and Stevie were hired.  It doesn't make the old direction bad or any less desirable.

Bare Trees was my introduction to F-M, so when some of you were saying "I miss their blues and Peter Green," I was saying naïve stuff like "I can't believe they got rid of Bob Welch."  Whatever — I like that groups evolve.  Some of Bowie's incarnations have fallen flat, but fortunately, like F-M, it's a book with many chapters.

Glad to hear this one!  There are a lot of great suggestions in this thread for FM songs pre-BuckNicks. "Rhiannon" is one of those songs I'll dive across the room, risking life and limb, to turn off. "Heroes are Hard to Find," conversely, is one of those songs I'll dive across the room to crank up loud.  I'd love to hear more early Fleetwood Mac, more often here... {#Daisy}

Heh - and I was one of those annoying customers who'd come in and say things like "Yeah, heard this band over the weekend . . ."

And then you'd spend 10 minutes trying to figure out who it was.

I ended up getting a job at the college station just to keep up with new music. It really was hard to hear the new stuff if you didn't live in a major metro area.

Ah the Bob Welch years.  This, Kiln House and Heroes are Hard to find are great examples of the pre-Nick-Buck days.  I like the early Peter Green years too - {#Bananajam}{#Bananapiano}{#Drummer} - oh yeah - and Christine Perfect!

Why is that? The group has had several incarnations (with Mick and John being the two constants) and has a very deep back catalog dating back to the late '60s! There's much more to F-M than the overexposure provided by the Buckingham Nicks era.

This is a very solid album, as is the follow-on, Future Games. While somewhat spotty, the Kiln House precursor also has many tracks that rock as hard, or harder, than this.

Ahhhhh. More pre B/N Mac. Not that I'm against the later incarnation, I have their stuff too, but this is a better fit for Radio Paradise.(IMO)

For some curious reason, F-M made it's way to North Carolina in the guise of visiting surfers from California. I can remember hearing Bare Trees in a campground at Cape Hatteras and wondering who it was. The next week I called several radio stations (including the low-power college stations) to find out where I could buy this album. No dice. Finally found a copy a few months later while visiting D.C. I don't think they had a presence on-air until Heroes Are Hard To Find.

Funny thing about the Buckingham/Nicks version of the band, a lot of us had had only limited exposure to them between "Oh, Well" and "Hypnotized." The "Rhiannon" phenomenon caused us to go back to their back catalog and discover the wonders of Danny Kirwan and Peter Green, Bare Trees, Kiln House, and others.

Well... let's say middle aged Fleetwood Mac. Old would be Rattlesnake Shake, etc. from the hard guitar blues days of Green and Spencer. I like this middle iteration of FM quite well though.

: Outta the clear blue sky!!!! : Always amazing the tracks that get played on this here website.... What an awesome flashback. I can take or leave most of the tracks on this album, but this one (& sentimental lady) are killer. This was truly a phenomenal time for ol' Fleetwood; this and the next following albums (Penguin, Mystery To Me) are of special fondness to me. Thanks tons for the time travel!
