Yeah well, new community transmission cases in the past week, Australia 0. But it looks like Australia has ongoing cases because they report cases from overseas in the hotel quarantine system. Australia did have a bad wave due to a release from the quarantine system that caused a really tough lockdown in Victoria. But I'd say we crushed that one.

All the reports on almost any news network reporting the covid numbers are all false and dated. If you want to see up to date accurate figures check out worldometer. The news lies.  They use John Hopkins which is always about a day and a half behind. The day we passed 400, 000 was was actually the day after we passed that landmark number. It's a cool site - it give all kinds of  statistics on many topics. Like a running meter of the world's population and much more.

Thanks for the references.  Even before I came back to this thread, I had the chance to read more about the Jussie Smollett incident and now fully understand what you were referring to.

You were right; I was wrong.  So much for jumping to conclusions.   Sorry.  

I just read that Empire has fired Jussie Smollett.    I hope he ends up working in a bottom-rung convenience store position though he might make more money turning tricks.

As the news spread, many (including the president) were quick to criticize Smollett, or simply amplify this instance of alleged false reporting, which is actually very rare. Researchers who track hate crimes have found that the more common problem isn't false reports; if anything, it's underreporting. In fact, the number of hate crimes has spiked dramatically since 2016—and these numbers are likely much higher than what's represented in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's database.
It's more than a little ironic that Trumpers clutch their pearls complaining about veracity...

??   Specific examples, please.   

Trump has called for a muscular response to journalists and activists but not gay men.  
 
I am at a loss to understand what the latter bolded has to do with anything.  It was painted as a hate crime perpetrated by typical #MAGA homophobic Trumpers.  And bought hook, line and sinker.  Trumpers are assumed to be homophobic, when you pull the white sheets Red Hats away ...      I don't know why you or anyone else would think blaming Trump out of the gate for this so unusual as to needing proof.

The attack embodied everything that was wrong with Trump and his supporters, two of which obviously carried out this hate crime.  That was the picture painted by the talking heads and politicians.  It is hard to find any of these unless I stumble on a montage someone has put together that will stay up on youtube.  Searching can only be done by headline now because there is too much content now that comes up in any search to find original stories.  These stories are old now and buried under piles of results.   

Here's a couple that I have found so far ...

 Well I did find three separate credible sources.  That meets the minimum standard for proof in writing exercises.

Again, I must ask why you or anyone else would find the rush to blame Trump not a real thing ?  Like no one would stoop to that kind of recklessness. Trump is assumed to have done anything terrible one can imagine  There are those who are in love with hating Trump and there are more than a couple of them.  How's that lyric go ... a thin line between love and hate ....

   OK, I caught up to the news and now fully understand what kurster was referring to.  One of the hired assailants was wearing a MAGA hat IRCC.

Trump has called for a muscular response to journalists and activists but not gay men.

My understanding is that the local news covered it rather well and kept the flames to a minimum, waiting for some actual results of investigations to come in.  It was the national news media that made it into something else altogether.  It was an opportunity to further their anti Trump narrative and because they are so wound up in it, they cannot sit back and wait for the story to develop fully.  It is what they wanted to report.  The MAGA  headlines get clicks.  Clicks = $  Shoot first, who needs answers ?  They just get in the way, like they are right now.  All that is left to watch is how this gets swept under the rug by the MSM.

Is that the fault of the media who are tasked to not only report news on a daily basis — no time for exhaustive peer review there — but tasked to report news on an hourly or minute by minute basis?

Or it is blow back from a Made-in-America culture of celebrity narcissism?
